I angled my direction to go around it on the part of the path that wasn’t covered by water or mud. As I reached the pool, I was suddenly attacked! Yet I did nothing for the attack. It was so unpredictable and from somewhere totally unexpected. I was surprised as well as unhurt though I had been struck four or five times. I backed up a foot and my attacker stopped attacking me. Had I been hurt I wouldn’t have found it amusing. And I was laughing. After all, I was being attacked by a butterfly!Having stopped laughing, I took a step forward. My attacker rushed me again. He charged towards me at full speed, attempting to hurt me but in vain. For a second time, I took a stop backwards while my attacker paused. I wasn’t sure what to do. After all, it’s just not everyday that one is attacked by a butterfly. I stepped back to look the situation over. My attacker moved back to land on the ground. That’s when I discovered why my attacker was charging me only moments earlier. He had a mate and she was dying.Sitting close beside her, he opened and closed his wings as if to fan her. I could only admire the love and courage of that butterfly in his concern for his mate. He had taken it up on himself to attack me for his mate’s sake, even though she was clearly dying and I was so large. He did so just to give her those extra few precious moments of life, should I have been careless enough to step on her. His courage in attacking something thousands of times larger and heavier than himself just for his mates’ safety seemed admirable. I couldn’t do anything other than reward him by walking on the more difficult side of the pool. He had truly earned those moments to be with her, undisturbed.Since then, I’ve always tried to remember the courage of that butterfly whe never I see huge barriers facing me.56. From this experience the man learned _____.A. what he should do when faced with troubleB. people should show sympathy to the weakC. how he should deal with attacksD. people should protect butterflies59. Which of the following word can best describe the butterfly?A. CarelessB. Amusing.C. Courageous.D. A study designed to expose the truth about lying shows that undergraduates lie to their mothers in 46% of their conversations. Still, mums should feel better than total strangers, who are told lies an astonishing 77% of the time.Bella Depaulo and a team of psychologists from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, asked 77 undergraduates to keep a record of all their conversations for a week, and wrote down whether they lied at any time. DePaulo named lying broadly, as “when you intentionally try to mislead someone”, so she would catch the smallest of lies. The students told an average of two lies a day. They said they had been studying when they had been out drinking. One told his parents that a textbook cost $50 rather than $20 --- so that they would send him extra money. Female students constantly told their plain-looking roommates that they were pretty. “They are everyday lies,” says DePaulo.DePaulo and her colleagues conclude that people tend to tell fewer lies to those they feel closest to. College students lied to their best friends 28% of the time but lied to acquaintances 48% of the time. In close relationships, people were more likely to tell “kind-hearted” lies, designed to protect feelings, rather than self-serving lies.Romantic (浪漫的)partners fall somewhere between close friends and acquaintances. Students lied to romantic partners about a third of the time. DePaulo thinks that unmarried lovers can expect less honesty than best friends because of the insecurity that comes with romance.Mothers can take heart from one other finding. They may have been lied to, but at least their children talked to them. The students were recorded telling few lies to their fathers --- because they had virtually no interaction with them.60. What is the meaning of the underlined word “grievan ce” in Paragraph 1?A. Opinion.B. Complaint.C. Belief.D. Difficulty.61.According to the passage college students felt closest to____.A. Mothers.B. Best friends.C. Acquaintances.D. Romantic partners.62.Female students lied to their roommates to ____.A. get money from themB. offer them the servicesC. gain more securityD. make them happy63. What is the purpose of this article?A.To present a fact.B. To argue an idea.C. To tell a story.D. To explain a theory.CSince the Second World War,there has been an obvious trend, especially among the growing group of college students, toward early marriage. Many youths begin dating in the first stage of adolescence, "go steady" through high school, and marry before their formal education has been completed. In some quarters, there is much shaking of graying heads over the unacceptable ways of youth. However, emotional (情感的)maturity does not grow with age, it does not arrive automatically at twenty -one or twenty-five. Some achieve it surprisingly early, while others never do, even in three-score years and ten. Many students are marrying as an escape, not only from an unsatisfying home life, but also from their own personal problems of loneliness. However, any marriage entered into as an escape cannot prove entirely successful. The sad fact is that marriage seldom solves one’s problems; more often, it merely worsens them. What’s more, it is doubtful whether the home is able to carry all that the young are seeking; they might abandon one idol(幻像)only to have another. Young people correctly understand that their parents are wrong in believing that success is the most important in life, but they themselves are wrong in believing that they have found the true center of life' s meaning. Their expectations of marriage are basically unrealistic and therefore can not be met. They want too much, and tragic disillusionment(幻想破灭)is often likely to follow.Shall we, then, join the chorus of those against early marriages? One cannot generalize: all early marriages are bad and all later ones are good. Satisfactory marriages are determined not by how old one is, but by the emotional maturity of the partners. Therefore, each case must be judged on its own benefits. If the early marriage is not an escape, if it is entered into with relatively few false expectations, and if it is economically workable, why not? Good marriages can be made from sixteen to sixty, and so can bad ones.63. The underlined phrase “shaking of graying heads”, refers to______.A. the anger of parentsB. the disapproval of elderly peopleC. the improper behaviors of the youngD. the emotional expectations of young lovers64. The author thinks the idea of marriage as an escape is______.A. acceptableB. controversialC. immatureD. unreasonable65. The author argues that______.A. young people can benefit little from early marriage marriagesB. elderly people are wrong about early marriagesC. early marriages are not always unsuccessfulD. early marriages should not be encouraged66. What’ s the main idea of the passage?A. Young peopl e’s failure in marriage results from disillusionment.B. Young people shouldn' t have many expectations for marriage.C. Successful marriages depend on emotional maturity.D. Home is the place where you get rid of loneliness.DWal-Mart is not just the world’s largest retailer(零售商). It’s the world’s largest company, which sells in three months what number-two retailer Home Depot sells in a year.Wal-Mart exercises its power for just one purpose: to bring the lowest possible prices to its customers. At Wal-Mart, that goal is never reached. The retailer has a clear policy for suppliers: On basic products that don’t change, the price Wal-Mart will pay, and will charge shoppers, must drop year after year. But what almost no one outside the world of Wal-Mart and none of its 21,000 suppliers know is the high cost of those low prices. To survive in the face of its pricing demands, makers of everything from bikes to jeans have had to close US plants in favor of obtaining products from abroad.Indeed, the real story of Wal-Mart, the story that never gets told, is the story of the pressure the biggest retailer constantly applies to its suppliers in the name of bringing us “every day low prices”.The giant retaile r’s low prices often come with a high cost. Wal-Mart’s pressure can crush the companies it does business with and force them to send jobs overseas. Are we shopping our way straight to the unemployment line? Of course, US companies have been moving jobs offshore for decades, long before Wal-Mart was a retailing power. But there is no question that the chain is helping accelerate the loss of American jobs to low-wage countries such as Thailand.People ask, “How can it be bad for things to come into the US cheaply?” Sure, it’s great to have bargains. But you can’t buy anything if you’re not employed. There is no question that Wal-Mart’s drive to squeeze out cost has benefited consumers. By now, it is accepted wisdom that Wal-Mart makes the companies it does business with more efficient and focused. Wal-Mart itself is known for continuous improvement in its ability to handle, move, and track goods. It is legendary (传奇) for forcing its suppliers to redesign everything from their packaging to their computer systems. It is also legendary for quite straightforwardly telling them what it will pay for their goods.67. How do suppliers meet the requirements of Wal-Mart?A. To sell even more goods in three months.B. To cut down the employment rate sharply.C. To charge shoppers at a much higher price.D. To run the business in a well-organized way.68. Wal-Mart’s low price policy results in_________.A. more high-paying jobsB. better designed packagesC. bigger profit of its partnersD. more jobless American workers69. What can we infer from the passage?A. Still more quality goods will be provided.B. The food you get at Wal-Mart costs least.C. The value of Mal-Mart is over assessed.D. Wal-Mart is a very demanding company.70. What’s the best title for the passage?A. The Fortune Wal-Mart MakesB. The Wal-Mart you don’t knowC. The Biggest Retailer—Wal-MartD. The Money-saving Tip in Wal-MartIt doesn’t come as a surprise to you to realize that it makes no difference what you read or study if you can’t remember it. You just waste your valuable time. ___71___ One dependable aid that does help you remember what you study is to have a specific purpose or reason for reading. Why does a clerk in a store go away when your reply to her offer to help is, “No, thank you. I’m just looking”? Both you and she know that if you aren’t sure what you want, you are not likely to find it. But suppose you say instead, “Yes, thank you. I want a pair of sun glasses.” She says, “Right this way, please.”___72___ If you chose a book, “just looking” for nothing in particular, you are likely to get just that -- nothing. But if you do know what you want, you are almost sure to get it. Your reasons will vary; they will include reading or studying “to find out more about”, “to understand the reasons for” and “to find out how”.___73___ Before you start to study, you say to yourself something like this, “I want to know why Stephen Vincent Benet happened to write about America”. Because you know why you are reading or studying, you relate the information to your purpose and remember it better.___74___ At least two important processes go on at the same time. As you read, you take in ideas rapidly and accurately. But at the same time you express your own ideas to yourself as you react to what you read. You have a kind of mental conversation with the author. This additional process of thinking about what you read includes evaluating it, relating it to what you already know, and using it for your own purposes. ___75___ One part of critical reading, as you have discovered, is distinguishing between facts and opinions. Facts can be checked by evidence. Opinions are one’s own personal r eactions. Another part of critical reading is judging sources. Still another part is drawing accurate inferences.A. Maybe you have already discovered some clever ways to keep yourself from forgetting.B. You remember better what you read when you know wha t you’re reading for.(×)C. It is important for students to have a positive attitude to their study.D. In other words, a good reader is a critical reader.E. It’s quite the same with your studying.F. Reading is not one single activity. G . This is the way it works.假设你是红星中学高三(1)班的学生李华,上学期你们班在密云学农基地开展了为期一周的学农活动。

I study the psychology of techology, and it seems to that we are sleepwalking into a world where techonogy is severely affecting our well-being.Technology can be hugely useful in the fast-paced modern living, but we need to stop it from taking over. For many of us,it is becoming increasingly difficult to control the impulse to check our inbox yet again or see whether the headlines have changed since we looked last time. Our children are in a similar position. In many homes, the computer, with which we work and play.has become the centre of attention. How does this arise, and what is it doing to us?People who place a high value on material goals are unhappier than those who are less materialistic. Our culture also constantly reminds us that time is money. This indicates a need for total efficiency(效率),which is the reason for us to allow laptop computers and mobile phone to blur the separation between work and home .As one unhappy human resource manager in a high-techcompany put it, "They gave me a mobile phone so they can own me 24hours a day ,and a portable computer,so my office is now with me all the time---I cannot break out this pressure."Sound familiar? Psychologists generally believe that the lack of clear separation between work and home greatly damages our relationships with lovedones. It also makes us quite likely to focus on the here and now at the expense of long-term goals. Modern society is in danger of exchanging standard of living for quality of life.We need ways to help recover those increasingly large parts of our lives that have been controlled by technology,to regain mastery over technology and learn to use it in a healthy and positive way.59.Why does the author mention Daniel Goleman's words"the age of melancholy"?A.To prove the point that people are addicted to advanced technologyB.To introduce his idea of a more depressed society due to technologyC.To introduce his view about the advantage of techological wondersD.To prove that modern people are puzzled by the technological wonders.60.By saying that"we need to stop it from taking over"in paragraph 3 ,the author means_____.A.we should stop using these technological wondesB.we should use these technological wonders wiselyC.we are severely affected by these technological wondersD.we are frequently trapped in these technological wonder 61.What does the underlined word"it"in paragraph 6 refer to?A.The lack of a clear separation between work and home.B.The pressure that the manager cannot break out ofC.The need for total efficiency in modern lifeD.The high value placed on material goals62.What is the best title for the passage?A.Sad Feeling in Advanced SocietyB.Standard of Living or Quality of Life?C.Technology Wonders Bring New LifestyleD.Free Yourself from Control by Technology第二节:阅读下面短文和问题,根据短文内容在答题卡相应题号后的横线上,写下相关信息(不多于 5 个单词),完成对该问题的回答,答语要结构正确,书写工整,字迹清楚Anxiety is a real emotional(情绪的) disturbance. From time to time, everyone worries about his or her health, family, money, and school. However, when a person has anxiety, they worry all the time, even when nothing is wrong.Physical symptoms(症状) can also happen. They may have trouble falling asleep, think about a particular situation for a long time and find it difficult to think of something else.Sometimes they may feel restless and sweaty, and have trouble concentrating. They may overeat or lose their appetite. They may also have a feeling that something bad is going to happen. In fact, anxiety is extremely common;it is estimated that about 13% of the United States' population has anxiety.A study shows anxiety affects all ages, including teenagers and children. Many teenagers have anxiety and feelings of great stress, worry, fear and panic.Anxiety can affect many aspects if a teenager's.If a teenager is always anxious and worried,it might affect their ability to make friends, perform well inschool, and try new things. It is doubtful whether he or she can fully enjoy life.So the most important thing is to understand that anxiety can be treated and to help them have a happy and healthy life. 回答下列问题,在答题卡相应题号后的横线上写下相关信息(不多于五个单词)63.What is anxiety according to the passage?64.When a person has anxiety,What is the common symptom?65.What is the function of paragraph 2 in the organization of the passage?书面表达(A)假设你是李华,你在英国的必有Tommy 给你发来一封电子邮件,谈到他最近学习压力大而睡眠不好,无法集中精力。

(A)Dolphins(海豚) produce a great variety of noises and we wonder whether these sounds form a language. So far,we have identified some 20 different sounds dolphins make. Some seem to be the“order”to keep a group together. Some appear to be warning cries and some call-signs so that animals can recognize each other at a distance. But no one yet has shown that dolphins put these sounds together to form the two-word sentence that can be regarded as the beginning of a true language.Chimpanzees can do so.The great whales also have voices.Humpbacks(a kind of whale) gather every spring in Hawaii to give birth. Some of them sing. They repeat their songs over and over again.A complete song usually lasts for about ten minutes, but some continue for half an hour, and some over 24 hours. These whales stay in Hawaiian waters for several months, mating and singing.Sometimes they lie on the surface.Sometimes, they jump clear of the surface.Later they appear in the waters off Alaska.46.The main idea of this passage is that ________.A.whales and dolphins are able to develop two-word sentencesB.whales and dolphins have different languagesC.whales and dolphins can make noiseD.where whales give had,”Y ao said after Houston’s 95-83 victory. The NBA has to be excited about his on-count success. In all his games,he’s averaging 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds, quite good for a new star.“Y ao Ming has brought the NBA closer to the Chinese,”said NBA spokeswoman Cheong San Ching,“That makes the dream seem practical for other people in China and proud to be Chinese.”The 22-year-old Y ao is not the NBA.(C)Ballooning:Transportation or Competition? From earliest times human beings have looked to the sky and wished to soar through it like the birds.Pioneer airmen Wilbur and Orville Wright launched the modern A viation Age with their motor-powered plane in 1903,but some 140 years earlier daredevils had begun leaving the earth by balloon,in a different way of flying that still continues today. The first manned balloon took to the sky in France in 1783-after its inventors had safely tested their device with a sheep,a rooster and a duck as passengers.Though that hot-air-filled balloon remained high up in the air for only 20 minutes and traveled only five miles, within two years balloonists had traversed the 30-mile-wide English Channel. In 1793 the first balloon went up in America,a hydro-gen-filled device whose take-off was observed by George Washington himself.Once airplanes had replaced balloons as the principal means of air transportation, balloonists concentrated on setting height, distance and duration records. In the 1970s and 1980s several transoceanic records were set and broken. These achievements were made possible because of new techniques for keeping balloons—now generally helium—filled—at steady temperatures. But flying around the globe remained the final, most difficult target until March 1999.After a 19-day flight,Bertrand Pieeard of Switzerland and Brian
