Reading
About the workshop
As students, there is a great deal of reading for us to do on a regular basis. We read for information. We read to finish our class assignments. We read to perform different tasks both in and outside of class. Very often, we read fast, taking in several lines at a time. Other times, we read slowly, reading word by word carefully or repeating a single sentence again and again to fully understand its meaning. Of all the reading we do, there may be a particular type of reading many of us really enjoy, that is,literature reading. Some of us may like novels—thrillers,love stories or suspense; others may go for short stories—thought-provoking, emotional, humorous or philosophical; and yet others may choose nonfiction for their pleasure reading. Literature reading is a great pastime. In the process of reading, we not only entertain and enrich ourselves, but also share feelings and thoughts with others. In this workshop, you will discuss reading. You may talk about the following:
●Various types of reading you do from time to time and how you do it;
●Benefits of reading;
●The kinds of books and writers you like and reasons why you like them;
●Something you read recently that has left a deep impression on you;
●The sort of reading you hate most and why; and
●The way of reading you prefer: the most traditional manner of
reading—reading a printed book held by hand, reading on a computer
screen, reading on a cell phone, listening to a recording, etc.
