学号:2008212622 姓名:周艳超班级:五班My plan for a reading classReading is an important thing for an English learner. There are a lot of things that are not contained in our textbooks and our teacher may not teach us because of the limited 45 minutes, like the religious beliefs, the culture, economy, politics and so on. So in this way, reading extends our general knowledge about the world. And reading can be a helper for language acquisition, because some of the language contained in the texts will stick in our minds. And we can use some good-organised texts as models for future writing. But unfortunately in our secondary schools, our teachers don’t pay too much attention to the functions of reading and make full use of it. We just do reading for reading and the after-reading questions. We just need to know how to do those questions and why this question choose A not B. And during the reading, the teacher will tell us which ones are phrases and good expressions, then let us headline and remember them. Actually we don’t benefit from this kind of reading and day by day we lose the interest in reading. And reading becomes a burden to us. So, I will not follow that path.Firstly, we need to know the students well. We need to know their reading levels, like the level of reading difficulty and how long they can finish reading a short or a long passage. And we need to know where their interests are and what kinds of knowledge they are in lack of. So in this way, we can choose the appropriate reading materials for the class in terms of difficulty in level and quantity. And we can choose the passges they are interested in, because arousing and suataining syudents’ interest in the reading passges can help us carry out the reading purposes more successfully. The reading materials must be plentiful in kinds, because one of the functions of reading is enriching ourknowledge.Secondly, when we are preparing the questions for the class, we need to make the questions are abundant in types. Because there are only mutiple choices in the university entrance examination papers, many teachers will only focus on the mutiple choices and they think mastering the skill for this kind of exercise is the most important thing. But different kinds of questions can help the students comprehend the materials better and maintain interest in doing questions.Thirdly, during the reading class, we need to explain some difficult things to the students, like the necessary background knowledge and words which need explaining. We can also do some prereading activities to arouse the interest of the students. For example, we can ask the students to do some predictions about what the text talks about, then let them to check their predictions during the reading, and in this way the students may become more involved in the reading process. Another thing is that our focus should’t be only on the answers for the questions. Because the most important thing for teachers to do in the reading classes is to help them master some reading strategies or skills. Because when they have gained those skills, whatever materials they come across, they will be successful in comprehending them. It is more significant than just explaining a particular passage. For example, we can tell the students how to guess the meaning of unknown words, and we can help them develop this skill by giving more practice in this, because many students will worry about the new words they come across when doing the reading comprehension and they will stop and then look up those new words in the dictionary. The last one, the reading class can’t be finished after the comprehension. We can do some further activities to help the students to consolidate their understanding and raise awareness of the reading strategies and to make the things they have learnt during the class leave deeper impressions on thestudents. For example, we may ask the students to write a summary of this text, and exchange each other’ passages among the classsmates, and we may ask them use the strategies they have learnt to comprehend each other’ passages. To sum up, we need to know our students well and prepare the proper materials for the reading class, both proper in difficulty in level and in quantity. And the reading materials should contain all types, because one of the purposea of reading is to extend our knowledge. The most important thing is that the main focus of teaching reading class is to tell the students some reading skills rather than the understanding of a particular passage. And in this way the students may the reading class can become more practical and usefull.。
