AdapterInterfaceCircuit

GeneralDescription

TheAdapterInterfaceCircuit(AIC)isusedtosensethe

presenceofanexternalpowersourceforaportablecom-

puter.Itnotifiesthecomputerifasourceispresentand

indicatesifthesourceisappropriateforchargingbattery

packsinsidethecomputer.TheAICalsosensesanadapter

currentanditsdirection.AICisolatestheadapterandsignals

thecomputerwhenpeakcurrentthresholdisexceeded.

LM2601drivesP-channelFETs.Nohighcurrentrated

Schottkydiodeisrequiredtoimplementanadapterswitcho-

vercircuit.Thissignificantlydecreasesadditionalheatdissi-

pationduringsimultaneousfastbatterychargingwhilerun-

ningacomputer,particularlyinMaximumPerformance

modeofoperation
