Lesson Plan.Part1. Analysis of the teaching materialThis lesson is a reading passage. It is a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. During the first and the second step, students should know how to use adjective to describe a person and how to express attitudes. The main point in this unit is to teach students the grammar—direct speech and indirect speech. At the same time, we should make students understand some difficult sentences in order to comprehend the passage better. Of course, students can receive some moral education. Let them realize how important a friend it is.Teaching objectives:By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:1.Know how to use adjective to describe a person.2.Understand the main idea of the text.3.Know how to use direct speech and indirect speech.4.Realize the importance of friendship.Teaching important points:1.Understand the passage better.2.Grasp the grammar: direct speech and indirect speech.Teaching difficult points:e own words to summarize the main ideal of each paragraph.2.Make sentences with direct speech and indirect speech.Teaching method:1.Pair work or individual work method2.Question-and-answer activity teaching method3.Free discussion methodTeaching aids: blackboard, chalk, recorder, tapesPart2. A nalysis of the learnersWe are facing the students who just graduate from middle school. They may have good ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. But it is the first lesson in this term. During the long holiday, they may not in the mood to study. So we should try our best to arouse students’ interest. This unit is not so difficult, the topic is about friends, and it is very close to students’life. So it is not very hard for them to understand.Part3. Analysis of the teaching methodsI have designed the following steps to train their ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing, especially reading ability.Step1. Greeting (2 mins)Greet the whole class as usual and ask how about their holidays.Step2. Review (7 mins)1. Ask students some questions about friends, such as:What should a good friend be like?What qualities should a good friend have? Should they be funny, smart or strong? 2. Teach students the new words.Step3. Lead-in and preparation for reading (8 mins)Introduce the movie《Cast Away》and the backgrounds to the students, then let them image if they were alone on an island, they have to survive without friends and all the things they use in daily life. Which kind of things they need most on the island. Let them discuss in groups and write the final answer on a paper. Students volunteer to present their answer. Teacher summarizes and writes the words on blackboard.Purpose: Arouse the students’ interest of study.Step4. Fast reading (10 mins)Read the passage as quickly as they can. I will show the questions on the blackboard and let them get the main idea of each paragraph:1.What things must Chuck learn to survive on the island?2.What does Chuck learn about himself when he is alone on the island?3.If you were alone on an island, what would you do in order to survive? Purpose:1. Improve the students’ reading ability.2. Catch the general idea of each paragraph.Step 5. Listening(book closed)(3 mins)Play the tape to students and ask some simple questions.Purpose: Train students’ listening ability.Step6. Intensive reading (10 mins)Read the passage carefully again and teach them the grammar of direct speech and indirect speech. Explain some important words and phrases in the passage. Finish the practice of the text with students.Purpose: Train further reading ability and find out some different sentences and details of the text.Step7. Consolidation (3 mins)1. Find out the topic sentences.2. Retell the passage according to the topic sentences.Purpose: To know if students understand the whole passage really.Step8. Homework (2mins)Write an article about living alone on an island.Purpose: Improve the ability of their writing..Part4. Blackboard designUnit 1 Good FriendsTopic Sentences:1.Chuck (a successful manager) lands on a deserted island.2.Chuck has to learn to survive all along and he has an unusual friend.3.Chuck knows how to be a good friend.4.Friend and friendship help us to know who we are.Discussion:1. What things must Chuck learn to survive on the island?2. What does Chuck learn about himself when he is alone on the island?3. If you were alone on an island, what would you do in order to survive?In this passage, the design is not easy to write. I write the topic sentences on the blackboard in order to tell the students that this is importance of this passage.。
