教学过程Step 1 Lead-inDiscuss the following questions:What do you know about body language?Do you use body language? When and where do you use it? Discuss in groups for three minutes. Then some students present their answers in front of the class.Step 2 ListeningListen to the tape and know about the main points of the passage. 本单元围绕地理和语言这一话题展开教学。
课本先从Jenny, Brain和Danny的对话开始了解世界上的一些国家,要求学生了解如何表达自己所去过的地方,接着详细介绍了世界人口和七大洲、语言差异、肢体语言和北美洲的情况。
学生在学习与地理和语言相关内容的同时进一步扩展了有关地理和语言的生词、习语和日常用语。
通过本单元的学习,学习能够学会介绍自己所去过的地方,学会表示肢体语言的方法,学习被动语态和现在完成时的用法。
教师在完成本单元学习任务的同时,还应努力培养学生自我表达能力,发挥他们的想象力、创造力,张扬个性。
本课通过对比和比较的手法,简单介绍了几种肢体语言在不同文化下的含义。
要求学生在掌握相关词汇和句型语法知识的同时,了解其背后的文化内涵,以便恰当地应用。
学情分析我校为农村中学。
在经过了初中接近两年的英语学习之后,部分学生成绩稳步提高,基本掌握了新课标要求的听说读写译的能力,但是也有部分学生,由于小学阶段的底子太薄,跟课吃力,出现了习得性无助甚至自暴自弃的情绪。
这就要求教师在授课的过程中,不但要注意知识的传递和学习,更要注意教学方法的多样性和灵活性,以把所有学生的注意力都吸引到课堂学习上来,既可以让前者深入发展自己的能力,也可以帮助后者夯实基础,逐渐进步。
教学目标结合上面对教材和学情的分析,根据新的英语课程标准,依据学生现有的知识水平和年龄、心理特点,确定本课的教学目标:(1)知识目标:掌握课标要求的四会词汇:European, kiss, nod, polite;学习并掌握以下句型结构:⑴ But body language is not the same in all cultures.⑵ In India, when people nod their heads, they mean“no”.⑶ In most places, people point to things with their fingers.(2)能力目标:结合教学培养学生获取信息、处理信息的能力,以及学生的想象力、自学能力、观察能力。

Differences Between Chinese and American Cultures
Self(自我) — Americans pay more attention to self. This culture is believed to encourage people to develop self. That is the way to make people succeed more easily. Chinese people, on the other hand, they will first consider how their decisions on will affect (影响) their family and friends. Chinese people think of themselves in a collectivism (集体主义).
Styles of communication — People in the U.S are encouraged to defend(辩论) their ideas. The purpose is getting the other person to agree with their way of thinking. Some Chinese people would simply nod on your idea even if they don’t really agree with what you are saying. They do this to respect (尊敬) others’ ideas.
Dining — Dining in China can be much different than other parts of the world. Drinks are served warm or hot. Chinese people do not drink cold beverages (饮料). It hurts their stomach. But Americans do not care for what they drink. Most of time they prefer cold drink.
Guest-host relationship — In China, guests (客人) are almost like gods. Whenever you enter a Chinese person’s home, there is always fruit on the table for you, and someone is quick to bring you a cup of tea or water. In the west, acting is usual behavior (行为) for a guest. You should follow the rule of hosts (主人) in their house, or you are a bad guest.
