金银岛原文part one 中英对照Part OneLong John SilverIn the year 1764, Mr. William Doggett, of Bristol, tells us how he came to choose the sea as his business. He was a young man of about twenty-five, tall and strong, with thick black hair and a bold smile. But his clothes were old and shabby, his stockings were full of holes, and he had only a little money left.He went down to the harbor, looking for a ship to take him to a faraway country where he hoped to make his fortune. As he was walking along the quay, he met a man with one leg who was selling hunting knives. He looked at the knives for a while and then said, "I haven't got much money, but I'll give you everything I have for one of your knives.""What can you give me?" said the man."I've got five gold pieces here," said Jim, "and that's all the money I have in the world, but I'll give them all to you if you'll give me one of your knives.""Very well," said the man, "you can have this one. It's the best I have."Jim gave him the money and took the knife. Then he went down to the harbor again, and, soon after, he found a ship captain who agreed to take him on board his ship. The captain's name was John Silver. He was a large man with a big, round face and a loud voice. He had a wooden leg, but he could walk well with a crutch.Jim liked him very much at first sight and was soon working for him. He washed and mended the captain's clothes, cleaned his pistols, and even helped him to count his money. The captain taught him how to use the sword and pistol and how to cook the food.Jim had to be careful not to ask John Silver any questions about himself. It was clear to him that the captain was a dangerous man and didn't want anyone to know anything about him.During the first week on board, Jim got to know some of the other sailors. Most of them were friendly and kind to him, and he felt at home with them. But there were two men he didn't like at all. One was a tall, thin man with a long nose and sly eyes; his name was Israel Hands. The other was a small, ugly man with a big nose and a high voice; his name was Tom Redruth. One evening, about a fortnight after the ship had sailed, Jim was on the deck when he saw Israel Hands talking to John Silver. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but he didn't like the way the two men looked at each other. Jim felt happy when the conversation was over, and the two men went away in different directions. One night, a few days later, Jim woke up suddenly and saw the captain with a group of men near the ship's boats. They were whispering quietly to each other, and Jim could see that they were planning something.Jim put on his clothes and quietly followed them to the shore. There, in a little bay, he saw a group of dark figures standing under the trees. He hid behind a rock and listened to their conversation."We'll take the ship and the treasure," whispered the captain. "And we'll kill anyone who tries to stop us."At this moment, a voice cried out, "Who goes there?"It was the voice of Tom Redruth.Jim felt ill with fear. He didn't know what to do. The men were only a few yards away, and they would kill him if they found out he was there. Then he saw something that made him jump up in fright. It was Tom Redruth starting towards him with a gun in his hand. Jim ran away as fast as he could. As he was running, he heard the sound of gunshots and then the sound of men shouting.Jim ran and ran until he couldn't run anymore. He fell down onto the ground, crying with fear and pain. Finally, he stopped crying and tried to find his way back to the ship. But he was lost, and he didn't know where to go.As he lay there in the dark, he saw a light in the distance. He got up and walked towards it. It was a small house with a light in one of the windows. As he came nearer, he saw a sign over the door. It said, "The Spinning Wheel Inn."Jim knocked on the door, and a tall, thin man with a long nose and sly eyes opened it."Is there a doctor here?" asked Jim."Yes," said the man, "but he's asleep. What do you want with him?""I'm hurt," said Jim. "I need help.""Come in," said the man, "and I'll take a look at you."Jim went in and sat down on a chair near the fire. The man brought a candle and examined Jim's wound. Then he washed it and put a bandage on it."Now, young man," said the man, "tell me how you got this wound."Jim told him everything that had happened. The man listened carefully and then smiled."Do you know who I am?" he said."No," said Jim, "I've never seen you before.""My name is Israel Hands," said the man, "and I'm a friend of Long John Silver's."Jim jumped up with surprise. He looked at Israel Hands, and for a moment, he couldn't speak."But I thought Long John Silver was a good man," said Jim."So he is," said Israel Hands, "a good man to his friends. But he's a dangerous man to his enemies, and you're his enemy now."Jim felt sick with fear."What am I to do?" he said."You must go back to the ship," said Israel Hands, "and tell Long John Silver that you've been wounded. He'll take care of you."Jim stood up and walked towards the door."Goodbye, young Jim," said Israel Hands. "And remember, be a good friend to Long John Silver, or you'll be a dead boy in a very short time."Jim opened the door and walked out into the night.(Word Count: 975)。
