Ⅰ. 阅读理解No one enjoys hearing the sound of someone else chewing their food. Most of the time, though, it’s not that big a deal but a minor annoyance. But for a small group of people with misophonia (恐音症), the sound can be painful, causing extreme anger and deep discomfort. The most ordinary sounds of chewing and breathing can drive them crazy. Past attempts to explain the causes of misophonia havesuggested everything from compulsive disorder to an easily-annoyed personality —butaccording to a study published yesterday in the journal Current Biology , the true criminal isthe structure of the brain. For the study, a team of researchers led by Newcastle University neuroscientist Sukhbinder Kumar recruited (招募) 42 volunteers, of whom around half had extrememisophonia and the other half served as the control group, and played them several differentnoises: some ordinary; some harsh, like the sound of a person screaming; and some that wereordinary for the control group but known to be annoying for misophonics, people with misophonia, like the sound of breathing. As the participants listened, the researchers monitored them for signs of anxiety, both physical symptoms and behavioral expressions, and observed their brain activity using FMRI scans. The only significant difference in reaction between the two groups happened, during the misophonia-specific sounds, when those with the condition showed physical changes that suggested they were entering fight-or-flight mode. Misophonics had increased activity in the AIC, an area known to play a central role in the system that determines which things we should pay attention to. When the trigger sounds were played, there was not only more activity in this region but also abnormally high levels of connection to other regions. Misophonia, in other words, may be a result of misplaced attention the brain of a misophonic focuses on things that other people normally tune out (不予理会). On a related note, on behalf of misophonics and manners-minded moms everywhere: Please, chew with your mouth closed. 1. What is the true criminal of misophonia? A. Sounds of chewing and breathing. B. Compulsive disorder. C. An easily-annoyed personality. D. The structure of the brain. 2. Which way did researches use to carry out their research? A. Playing volunteers several different voices. B. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. Misophonics had decreased activity in the AIC during the misophonia-specific sounds. 此卷只装订不密封班级姓名准考证号考场号座位号B. The brain of a misophonic concentrates on things other people normally ignore.C. Around 42 volunteers with extreme misophonia were recruited in the research.D. No matter where you are, humans are constantly measuring and checking time. Some of us are good at it—planning and doing things ahead of time—while others are always trying to beat the clock and do things at last. What about if you are behind time?Delay can be serious. If you were one minute late for work, would you resign? It may sound extreme to many of us, but that is exactly what occurred in the UK upper chamber of parliament, the House of Lords, in January 2019. International development minister Lord Bates arrived one minute late, and, as a result, was unable to answer a scheduled question. Instead of trying to make up for lost time, he resigned on the spot. He apologised for his discourtesy and stated that he was ashamed. His resignation, though, was not accepted by the UK prime minister. So, how late is too late? Many cultures take punctuality very seriously, whereas others seem to accept lagging behind as just the normal way of things. BBC employees from Latin America, Rwanda and Sri Lanka said that there are more flexible attitudes to timekeeping in their cultures. In Latin America, things may happen five minutes, 20 minutes, an hour or even two after they were planned. Whereas, in Sri Lanka, lateness is a part of the daily routine. This is because of poor infrastructure and heavy traffic conditions. In Rwanda, those who attend to deadlines with strick timekeeping are said to be “like a typical European”.On the other hand, German and Japanese employees mentioned a stricter adherence to time. In Japan, it is common to make an effort to arrive with time to spare for an appointment. Those who arrived at the stroke of nine to a meeting starting at 9 am would be considered late. In Germany, however, if a dinner party were to begin at eight, a person who had arrived five minutes prior, may walk around the block to make sure that they arrive ateight on the dot.第 1 页4. German people share the same idea about time with people from ________.A. RwandaB. Latin AmericaC. Sri LankaD. JapanCSome years ago, a 28-year-old Californian wife and mother of three children died from drinking too much water. Her body was found in her home shortly after she took part in a water-drinking contest that was held by a local radio show. Called “Hold Your Wee For A Wii”,the contest organizers promised a free Wii video game machine to those who drank the most water without going to the bathroom. The woman who died drank about 2 gallons of water during the contest. When she and other participants complained of discomfort and showed signs of pains, they were laughed at by the organizers. This tragic news story shows the importance of understanding why drinking too much water can be dangerous to your health.Consuming more water than you need can increase your total blood volume (容量). And since your blood volume exists within a closed system, increasing your blood volume puts unnecessary stress on your heart and blood vessels (血管). Your kidneys (肾) must work overtime to get rid of extra water out of your system. Your kidneys are not a pair of pipes. Flushing more water through your kidneys doesn't necessarily help it become cleaner. Rather, your kidneys can get damaged by unnecessary wear and tear over time. And drowning your system with large amounts of water is one of many potential causes of kidney damage.Putting unnecessary stress on your system and your kidneys by consuming unnecessary water is an unnoticeable process. For the average person, it is usually impossible to know that this stress exists, as there are usually no obvious symptoms on a moment-to-moment basis. But make no mistake about it: this stress is real and can hurt your health over the long term.8. Why is the Californian woman mentioned?A. To lead to the topic of the text.B. To tell us a tragic news story about a mother.C. To tell us it can be dangerous to take part in contests.D. To tell us how much water we can drink at most one time.9. When the participants showed signs of pains, the organizers ________.A. became very concernedB. were laughed at by othersC. tried to reduce their painsD. didn't pay much attention to them10. What's the main idea of Paragraph 3?A. How water is consumed in our body.B. The importance of water to our health.C. Why drinking too much water is dangerous.D. The function of kidneys in consuming water.。

Their expectations for how well their children do at school and the environment at home are important determinants of achievement. Family influence is great in helping a child to realize academic accomplishment.Children who live in homes in which the parents are academically successful, once they become parents, often feel that their job is to prepare their children to do likewise in school. They take their kids on vacation, but they spend time learning about local history at museums. They also may ensure that their kids have time to study and understand the importance of school attendance. School is a priority for these families, and children who live in them grow up with a focus on learning.Parents who have high academic expectations and those who adopt a more authoritarian parenting style for their children often have children who do well in school. However, it can be dangerous to set expectations too high, such that a child feels overly pressured to perform. These types of expectations should be balanced with those that relate directly to the child, so that they will be able to personally set and reach goals, work hard and to enjoy being curious.Parents who support their children in their academic work also positively influence their performance. This takes different forms for families. Some parents might help with homework, or volunteer at school. Others provide a quiet study space, a consistent bedtime or a positive example of hard work and discipline. How parents show support for their child's academic career varies by familyand by culture. No matter how it is shown, it is a vital part of a child's academic success to know their parents are behind their efforts.A love of reading in a household can also positively affect a child's academic attainment. Learning new vocabulary, and how to predict, understand and respond to a text are just some of the skills children can learn at home that are important in an academic environment. Reading books, newspapers, magazines and websites with children on a regular basis sets them up for success at school.4. According to the text, parents have an important effect on children's __________ .A. family lifeB. next generationC. academic achievementD. expectations of their jobs5. What may a family with academically successful parents put first?A. Family travel.B. Attending school.C. Historic knowledge.D. Going to museums.6. They put great pressure on their children.D. They ask their children to solve problems alone.7. What could be the best title for the text?A. How to improve the relation in a familyB. Benefits of academically successful parentsC. What parents can do to help their childrenD. Family influence on children's academic achievementCAcross Britain, burnt toast will be served to mothers in bed this morning as older sons and daughters rush to deliver their supermarket bunches of flowers. Now,the new study has shown that if they were paid for their parental lab ours, they would earn as much as£172,000 a year. The study looked at the range of jobs mothers do,as well as the hours they are working,to determine the figure. This would make their yearly income £30,000 more than the Prime Minister earns.By analysing the numbers,it found the average mother works 119 hours a week,40 of which would usually be paid at a standard rate and 79 hours as overtime. After questioning 1,000 mothers with children under 18,it found that,on most days, mums started their routine work at 7am and finished at around 11pm.To calculate just how much mothers would earn from that labour,it suggested some of the roles that mums could take on,including housekeeper,part-time lawyer, personal trainer and entertainer.Being a part-time lawyer,at £48.98 an hour, would prove to be the most profitable of the “mum jobs”,with psychologist(心理学家)a close second. It also asked mothers about the challenges they face, with 80 per cent making emotional(情感的) demand as the hardest thing about motherhood.Over a third of mums felt they needed more training and around half said they missed going out with friends. The study shows mothers matter all year long and not just on Mother's Day.The emotional, physical and mental energy mothers devote to their children can be never-ending,but children are also sources of great joy and happiness. Investing(投入)in time for parenting and raising relationships is money well spent.8.How much would a mother earn a year if working as the Prime Minister?A.£30,000. B.£142,000.C.£172,000.D.£202,000.9.The biggest challenge for most mothers is from ________.A.emotional demand B.low pay for workC.heavy workload D.lack of training10.What is stressed in the last paragraph?A.Mothers' importance shows in family all year long.B.The sacrifices mothers make are huge but worthwhile.C.Mothers' devotion to children can hardly be calculated.D.Investing time in parenting would bring a financial return.11.What can we conclude from the study?A.Mothers' working hours should be largely reduced.B.Mothers should balance their time for work and rest.C.Mothers' labour is of a higher value than it is realised.D.Mothers should be freed from housework for social life.DA nosebleed can be frightening to get or see, but try to stay calm. Most nosebleeds look much worse than they really are. Almost all nosebleeds can be treated at home.If you get a nosebleed, sit down and lean slightly forward. Keeping your head above your heart will make your nose bleed less. Lean forwards so that the blood will flow out of your nose instead of down the back of your throat. If you lean back, you may swallow the blood. This can make you uncomfortable.Use your thumb and index fingers to press together the soft part of your nose.Keep holding your nose until the bleeding stops. Don't let go for at least 5 minutes. If it's still bleeding after that, hold it again for 10 minutes straight. You can also place an ice pack across the toe of your nose. Once the bleeding stops, don't do anything that may make it start again, such as bending over or blowing your nose. The most common causes of nosebleeds are dryness (often caused by indoor heat in the winter) and nose picking. These two things work together — nose picking occurs more often when the liquid in the nose is dry. Other, less common causes include injuries, colds or cocaine use. Children may stick small objects up their nose.Old people may have infections or high blood pressure. The cause of nosebleeds is often unknown. Most nosebleeds aren't serious. They occur in the front part of the nose and stop in a few minutes.A few nosebleeds start in large vessels (血管) in the back of the nose, which can be dangerous. They may occur after an injury. This type of nosebleed is more common in the elderly and is often due to high blood pressure, daily aspirin use or bleeding disorders.12.According to the text, nosebleeds ________.A.are not frightening to get or seeB.are usually not serious and can be cured with the right method at homeC.must be treated by doctors in the hospitalD.aren't dangerous at all13.Which of the following is NOT the right way to treat nosebleeds?A.Cool your nose with ice or other cold things.B.Press your nose slightly with your fingers.C.Lean backwards to slow down the flow of flood.D.Lean your head forwards, just above your chest.14.What's the main idea of Paragraph 4?A.Nosebleeds are caused by some diseases.B.Nosebleeds are caused by the dry weather.C.Your nose may be infected.D.The causes of nosebleed.15.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.It may be more dangerous if the back part of your nose bleeds.B.Nosebleeds can cause the disease related to blood pressure in older people.C.Nosebleeds occur to kids because of infections.D.Many nosebleeds are not as serious as they look.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Doubtful(4)What is the main idea of the last paragraph?A. Teachers prefer traditional methods of teaching.B. The iPads won't take the place of printed materials.C. More and more schools are using iPads.D. Exercise books are more valuable now.BToday just as technology changed the face of industry, farms have undergone an "agricultural revolution". On the farm of today, machines provide almost all the power. One of the most important benefits will be the farm computer. The computers help them keep more accurate records so they can make better decisions on what crops to plant, how much livestock (家畜) to buy, when to sell their products, and how much profit they can expect. Many computer companies have been developing special computer programs just for farmers. In the future, farmers will be able to purchase computer programs made to their needs. Because of the growing importance of computers on the farm, students at agricultural colleges are required to take computer classes in addition to their normal agricultural courses. There can be no doubt that farmers will rely on computers even more in the future. While the old-time farm depended on horse power, and modern farms depend on machine power, farms of the future will depend on computer power.Another technological advance which is still in the experimental stage is the robot, a real "mechanized hired hand" that will be able to move and, in some ways, think like a human being. Agricultural engineers believe that computer-aided robots will make big changes in farming before the end of the century. Unlike farmers of the present, farmers of the future will find that many day-to-day tasks will be done for them. Scientists are nowdeveloping robots that will be able to drive tractors, and harvest fruit. Even complex jobs will be done by robots. For example, in order to milk their cows, farmers must first drive them into the barn, then connect them to the milking machines, watch the machines, and disconnect them when they are finished. In the future, this will all be done by robots. The complete mobilization (活动) of the farm is far in the future, but engineers expect that some robots will be used before long.(1)According to the passage, computers cannot help farmers decide _______.A. how much money they can earn from their productsB. whether to plant a certain kind of cropC. what livestock to raiseD. when to sell their products(2)Which of the following statements is true?A. Farmers in the future will depend totally on computers.B. Both computers and robots have been in use on today's farms.C. Farmers mainly use machines on their farms at present.D. Students at agricultural colleges must take computer classes because they can do nothing without them.(3)According to the engineers, what will be done by robots in the near future?A. All farm work.B. Milking cows.C. Some farm work.D. Most of the farm work.(4)What is the best title for the whole passage?A. Computer, Farmers' Best FriendB. Farmers in The FutureC. Computers and RobotsD. The Agricultural Revolution三、翻译1.直到我儿子八岁时我才发现他有运动天赋。

No matter where you are, humans are constantly measuring and checking time. Some of us are good at it —planning and doing things ahead of time —while others are always trying to beat the clock and do things at last. What about if you are behind time?Delay can be serious. If you were one minute late for work, would you resign? It may sound extreme to manyof us, but that is exactly what occurred in the UK upper chamber of parliament, the House of Lords, in January 2018. Many cultures take punctuality very seriously, whereas others seem to accept laggingbehind as just the normal way of things. In Japan, it iscommon to make an effort to arrive with time to spare for an appointment. Those who arrived at the stroke of nine to a meeting starting at 9 am would be considered late. In Germany, however, if a dinner party were to begin at eight, a person who had arrived five minutes prior, may walk around the block to make sure that they arrive at eight on the dot.4. What did Lord Bates do when he arrived one minutes late?A. He continued to answer questions.B. He resigned on the spot.。
