The Cloisters Museum and Gardens

The Cloisters Museum and Gardens is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

devoted to the art and architecture of Europe in the Middle Ages. The extensive collection

consists of masterworks in sculpture, colored glass, and precious objects from Europe dating

from about the 9th to the 15th century.

古代“文人趣味”的生成与演变(节选)

人们的美学观念、文艺思想固然受制于特定的意识形态，而趣味则是意识形态的心理基础。趣味与意识形态相互作用，离开趣味作为基础，意识形态就成为空洞的口号与说教，而不能得到意识形态确证的趣味也只能表现为自生自灭的时尚与习俗。因此可以说，趣味具有阶级性，也具有历史性。

“文”可视为中国古代贵族趣味的标志性符号。在周代典籍中随处可见的“文”是贵族趣味与贵族意识形态的纽结点，它既包含着以等级观念为核心的贵族价值体系，又包含着以礼乐为核心的贵族趣味系统。孔子赞扬周代的政治文化：“周鉴于二代，郁郁乎文哉！吾从周。”今人则常常用“繁文缛节”来评说周代文化，这些都是对“文”这一趣味特征的理解。“文”就是一切形式化的人为建构，包括典章制度、礼仪、知识系统、诗、乐、舞、建筑、绘画、雕塑、器物等，也包括贵族阶层在正式场合的一切言说。这个“文”的系统把贵族与其他社会阶层区别开来。

“道”可视为士人或士大夫阶层趣味的标志性符号。秦汉之后，受过教育的布衣之士有机会进入官僚行列，于是已做官的读书人和希望做官的读书人就构成了新的社会知识阶层，即“士大夫阶层”。强烈的历史使命感与社会责任感是士大夫趣味结构的基本内涵。西周贵族阶层话语系统中没有“道”的位置，它与士大夫阶层相伴而生。士大夫阶层是春秋战国之际从原有贵族阶级蜕化而来的，他们在贵族文化基础上建构起了自己的文化系统，这就是以孔孟老庄为代表的诸子百家之学。可以说，士人阶层一切精神文化的建构都是对他们所尊奉的“道”的诠释，而“道”也成为士人阶层文化心态、性情倾向与观念系统的综合性呈现。正因如此，“文”“道”关系成为中国古代文学思想中一个延续千年的基本主题。
