厦门大学简介

厦门大学是由著名爱国华侨领袖陈嘉庚先生于1921年创办的，是中国近代教育史上第一所华侨创办的大学，也是我国唯一地处经济特区的国家“211工程”和“985工程”重点建设的高水平大学。

Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by Tan Kah Kee, the well-known patriotic overseas

Chinese leader. It was the first university in China founded by an overseas Chinese. At present it is

the only university in any of five special economic zones and is one of China 's higher-level

universities designated for the state key construction of the “211 Project” and the “985 Project”.

87年来，学校秉承“自强不息，止于至善”的校训，积累了丰富的办学经验，形成了鲜明的办学特色，成为一所学科门类齐全、师资力量雄厚、居国内一流、在国际上有广泛影响的综合性大学。建校迄今，已先后为国家培养了15万多名本科生和研究生，在厦大学习、工作过的两院院士达60多人。

Over the past eighty–seven years, as the result of following the school motto: Pursue Excellence,

Strive for Perfection, Xiamen University has accumulated rich experience in offering its

educational programs and has presented its distinctive features in running the programs. Equipped

with a strong team of faculty and staff, Xiamen University, which provides a fairly complete range

of programs of education, has become a first-class comprehensive university in China with

extensive international influence. Since its founding, Xiamen University has produced more than

150,000 undergraduates and graduates for the country and over 60 academicians of the Chinese

Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) have studied or

worked at Xiamen University.

学校设有22个学院和9个研究院，拥有14个博士学位授权一级学科，17个硕士学位授权一级学科，15个博士后流动站，拥有5个一级学科和9个二级学科的国家级重点学科，9个国家人才培养基地，11个学科项目列入国家“十五”“211工程”建设，11个创新平台和基地被列入国家“985”工程二期建设。

Xiamen University has 22 schools and 9 research institutes with 14 Doctoral degrees in first –class

disciplines, and 17 Master degree in first-class disciplines, and 15 Post doctoral research centers.

There are first-level and 9 second-level national key disciplines, 9 national educational base for

talents, 11 disciplines listed among the state key disciplines in the “211 Project” during the period

of the tenth Five-Year Plan and 11 innovation platforms and bases listed in the second phase of the

“ 985 Project”.

学校拥有一支高水平的师资队伍，专任教师中教授、副教授1319人，占全职教师总数的56.4%；拥有博士学位的1103人，占47.2％学校共有两院院士20人，国家级有突出贡献的专家14人，“长江学者”特聘教授12人。

Xiamen university has a high level team of faculty and staff including 1319 professors and

associate professors, accounting for 56.4% of all the full-time teachers. Xiamen University has

1103 teachers with doctorates, accounting for 47.2% of the total. 20 are academicians in the CAS

and CAE, and 14 scholars have made national outstanding contributions. There are 12 special

professorship of “Cheung Kong Scholar”.

现有在校生36410多人，其中本科生20824人，硕士生13349人，博士生2237人，外国留学生及港、澳、台学生2000余人，学校已与英、美等国家和港澳台地区的150多所高校建立了校际合作关系。 在对台交流方面，学校具有得天独厚的地理条件和难以替代的人文优势，已成为台湾研究的重镇和两岸学术交流的重要高校。 The university now has a total enrollment of over 36410 full-time students on campus, including

20,824 undergraduates, 13349 master students, 2237 doctoral students, and over 2000

international students. Xiamen University has inter-university cooperative ties with over 100

institutions of higher education at home and abroad. Because of its especially favorable

geographical location and advantageous human resources, it is the key university most actively

engaged in cross-straits educational, scientific and cultural exchanges.

学校拥有完善的教学、科研设备和公共服务体系。目前学校占地近 5000亩，校舍建筑总面积130多万平方米，图书馆藏书460多万册，校园高速信息网络建设的规模、水平居全国高校前列。厦大校园依山傍海、风光秀丽，已成为公认的环境最优美的中国大学校园之一。

At present, Xiamen University's boasts complete teaching and research facilities and a sound

public service system. It covers an area of over 5000 mu, with a construction area of over 1.3

million square meters and its libraries hold 4.60 million volumes. The scope and level of its

high-speed information network on campus is rated at the top of all universities in China.

Surrounded by green hills and fronting the sea, Xiamen University is recognized as one of the

most beautiful universities in China.

概况：

厦门大学是爱国华侨领袖陈嘉庚先生于1921年建立的，是目前唯一一所地处经济特区的教育部直属的综合性大学，国家“211工程”重点建设高校之一。校园坐落在“海上花园”厦门的东 南端，依山傍海，亚热带海岛风光绚丽迷人。厦门大学学科较为齐全，人才培养系列相当完备。改革开放以来，学校主动适应对外开放、经济发展、特区建设的需要，更新老专业，创办新专业，发展边缘、新兴、交叉学科。素有“南方之强”之称。学校设有研究生院、经济学院、政法学院、艺术教育学院、工学院、化学化工学院、医学院、海洋与环境科学学院、工商管理学院等。现有34个系，61个专业，13 个国家重点学科，108个硕士学位授予点，59个博士学位授予点，7个博士后流动站，有正、副教授上千名，其中 院士9人，博士生导师184人。另有数千名外国专家客座任教。馆藏图书250万册。学校大力开展国际学术交流，先后与加拿大、美国、英国、法国、澳大利亚、日本、比利时、荷兰和菲律宾等国家的27所高等院校建立了校际协作关系。共派出760多名教师、研究生分别到20多个国家留学、访问和讲学。还与加拿大联合举办“工商管理教育中心”。

1 Xiamen University 1.Introduction Xiamen University, located in Xiamen, Fujian province, is the first university in China founded by overseas Chinese. Before 1949, it was originally known as the University of Amoy. The university is one of many comprehensive universities directly administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education. In 1995 it was included in the list of the "211" Project for the state key construction; in 2000 it became one of China’s higher-level universities designated for the state key construction of the 985 Project. 1.1 History In 1919, Mr. Tan kah kee, the well-known overseas Chinese leader, donated millions of dollars to establish and endow Xiamen University, officially founded in 1921. It is regarded as one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China. Mr. Tan handed over Xiamen University to the government in 1937 due to lack of funds, and the institution subsequently became a national university. In 1938, at the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the university temporary relocated to Changting in Min Xi county, western Fujian. At the end of World War II in 1946, Xiamen University moved back to Xiamen and resumed normal operations. In 1952, Xiamen University became a comprehensive university, and has been designated as a national key university since 1962. Then, in 1952 it became a comprehensive university embracing both arts and science. In 1963, it was designated as a state key university. In 1995, it was included in the list of the "211 Project" for the state key construction; in 2000, it became one of China’s higher-level universities designated for the state key construction of the "985"Project.
