A Book Report
The book about Robinson Crusoe was a masterpiece of Daniel. Defoe,
which is a famous English writer, journalist and pamphleteer. His father was a
small business man. Then he selected the business at first. Besides, he
travels widely, with selling underwear, alcohol and tobacco, wool fabrics, brick
industry early. At the same time, he also engaged in political activities. When
he became old and weak, his children abandoned him, then Daniel. Defoe
died miserably in 1731.However, his novels were written in his later
years. His works have played a huge role in the development of British and
European novels. Therefore, Daniel. Defoe was called "The Father of English
and European Novel".
Robinson Crusoe, Defoe's first novel, was published in 1719. The story
was based on a sailor, Alexander Selkirk's true experience. Defoe inspired by
this true story to written the "Robinson Crusoe". Robinson Crusoe, the main
character, was born in a rich family. His parents have great expectations for
him, hoping him to become a lawyer and live a comfortable life. However,
Crusoe abandoned himself to adventure, setting his mind to make his living
by going to the sea. He thought nothing could be more fantastic than
adventure and creation in the world, and without this, life would be
meaningless. Attracted by the outside world and the expansive sea, Crusoe
went to the sea several times. Each time, after going through such hardship,
Crusoe determined to return to his parents and never does that
again. However, due to his dissatisfaction of the ordinary life and his curiosity
of the vast sea, Crusoe decided to have a sea journey again. Unfortunately, 2
one time the shipwreck made Crusoe come to a desolate island, where he
lived for 28 years. The main idea of this book is to show the quality of
diligence as well as the indomitable spirit of labor.
After reading Robinson Crusoe, I was deeply moved by Crusoe for his
strong will and positive attitude towards the hardship and towards the tough
life. For one thing, As Albert Einstein said, "Weakness of attitude becomes
weakness of character". I will choose to have inspiring, positive thoughts
instead of depressing, negative thoughts. Provided that Crusoe dropped
himself when he came to the deserted island because he didn't know to do
anything, the only result is that he would die directly. A positive attitude is
the motivation of doing anything. For another thing, just as the saying goes:"
Where there is a will, there is a way". Due to his hard work and exploring
spirit, also his willpower and optimism, Crusoe accomplished a lot and got
great ability. Let us bear this motto in mind no matter how much thunders
and thorns there are on our road ahead, and then we will be successful with
such precious and powerful spirit. In short, a positive attitude is of the
greatest importance in our life.
