In this class, students will be able to:

2. Analyze the main idea of the passage through topic sentences or

keywords

differences in body language in different cultures.

教学过程 1. Lead-in5min

Watch a short video and let students guess the feelings of the

people in the video.

[设计意图] 视频导入,结合时事。吸引学生兴趣,并传达“即使不同国家的语言不太,我们也能通过body language去与他们感同身受”的信息。

2. Pre-reading 5min

Look at the title and pictures of the text. “What do you think will

be talked about in the text?” Then interpret the title for them.

What rhetorical device does the author use?

Can you make some sentences by using personification?

3. While-reading 25min

(1) Skim the text, check the prediction and find the topic sentence

of each paragraph.

(2) Read for structure. According to the topic sentences and the

passage they just skimmed, encourage them to divide the

passage into several parts, tell the main idea of each part and

draw the mind map and finally introduce the type of the

passage.

4. Post-reading5min

(1) Look at the pictures and check out which smile is fake.

(2) Watch a video and check your guess. Think about the way to

judge a fake smile.

(3) Work in pairs and discuss these questions:

Smiles can be used to hide feelings like anger, fear, or

worry. Can you describe a situation where you might

smile when you don't mean it?

Apart from fake smiles, is there any other kind of body

language that can sometimes be fake?

Which is a more reliable guide for understanding someone's feelings, their body language, or the words

they speak?
