aims 1. To be able to read and spell the four skill words:

2. To be able to understand and use the sentences:

3. To get to know the life in Tang dynasty.
Important
points To learn the places of the school and the time of the simple
past tense.
Difficult
points To use the simple past tense to talk about the differences
between before and now properly.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greeting/ Warm-up
1. Greet with each other.
2. Walk into the students to greet with some individuals by using the
sentences:
Is there a library in your school?
Are there any computers in your school?
Are there any tall trees in your school?
Was there a library in your school two years ago?
Were there any computers in your school two years ago?
Were there any tall trees in your school two years ago?
3. Let Ss get familiar with there is/are, there was/were at the beginning of
the class, Ss know the importance of the unit. It’s great help for Ss to
focus on the studying.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Show them the PPT(What is / how to use there be).
2. Read the sentences and find the rules of there be.
Then write down the sentence.
3. Change the sentences into the past tense. Read the sentence, watch and
think. 2
4. Know what the past time is and how to use it in there be.
5. Present the sentence and get more time of the past tense.
two years ago, last…, in my time, at that time
6. Use the pictures to look for the difference between two months ago and
now.
7. Practice the sentences with there was/were (no) and there is….
8. Observe how to use there wasn’t/weren’t….
9. Show them the words of the school. Know more places of the school. Pay
attention to the phonetic symbols, ask them to read and say.
10. Present the sentence and ask them to read and say.
11. Find out the differences. Let them get the rules to change the simple
present tense verbs into the simple past tense.
12. Lead the students to read the words and dialogue from the book.
Then try to recite it.
13. Pair work. To practice the phrases and sentences in pairs.
Step 3 Consolidation & Extension
Group work to talk about the life of Tang dynasty.
Step 4 Summary & Homework
1. Present the key words and sentences of this lesson, then repeat and explain
them again.
2. Homework:Copy the words and read the dialogue.

check them.
2. Ask two Ss to talk about their school. Then lead out:

3. Present the PPT, look at the pictures. Talk about the difference between
the old school and the new school.
4. Use the tips to describe the pictures.
5. Look at the picture of children and Grandpa. Think over the
