2019届高考英语大一轮复习 Unit 1 Living well课时规范训练新人教版选修7Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2017·江西宜春调研)The results of a small but telling new study suggest that medicare and other insurers could be spent billions of dollars on screening smokers for lung cancer that would be better spent on helping them stop and keeping others from starting. The new study indicated that screening more often supported smokers' beliefs that they could safely continue to smoke. Most participants remained smokers because they believed screening could catch cancer early before it would threaten their lives.“They compared how hard it was to quit smoking with how easy it was to be screened,”said Steven B. Zeliadt, the lead author of the study.“They think there's this wonderful painless test that can save live s.”He and seven colleagues conducted the study of 37 current smokers who were offered lung cancer screening at Department of Veteran Affairs. After being screened and told the results, they were interviewed about their smokingrelated health beliefs. For about half of those in whom cancer was not found,“Screening lowered their motivation for quitting,”the team reported in July in JAMA Internal Medicine. The participants focused only on lung cancer, ignoring other potential harm of smoking, the researchers wrote.A national study published four years ago found that annual CT screening for lung cancer three years in a row could reduce deaths among heavy smokers by about 20%.In an interview, Dr. Harris said,“Screening is being believed by people as an alternative to stopping smoking. But stopping smoking would have huge benefits for the individual and society.”Furthermore, smoking causes many other cancers.Dr. Harris agreed that rather than screening, money is better spent on smoking prevention. He suggested providing free stopsmoking aids, sponsoring antismoking advertising and raising taxes on tobacco products and the age at which people are allowed to buy them.1.What does the new study suggest?A.Screening technology remains to be advanced and more effective.B.Screening can find cancer in patients and give them timely treatment.C.Helping people quit smoking is better than screening them for cancer.D.Admitting smoking before screening can help one to stop smoking.2.What effect can screening have on smokers?A.They will be scared by the result and quit smoking.B.They will believe it can catch and treat cancer early.C.They will lose hope and go on smoking.D.They will know screening costs less than smoking.3.What does the underlined word “they”(in Parag raph 5) refer to?A.The smokers screened in the study.B.Steven Zeliadt and his colleagues.C.Dr. Harris and his patients.D.The patients' health beliefs.4.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the passage?A.The Effect of Screening for Cancer PatientsB.Screening Alone Doesn't Do the WorkC.Screening Has a Say in Cancer DetectingD.Screening May Not Push Smokers to Quit【语篇导读】随着医学的发达,通过拍片能够及早发现烟民是否患有肺癌。

Recently I and other Red Cross volunteers met a group of victims from Hurricane Katrina. We were there, as mental health professionals, to offer "psychological first aid" and I was struck by the simple healing power of presence。
As we walked in the gate to the shelter, we were greeted with a burst of gratitude (感激) from the first person we met。
I felt appreciated, but also guilty, because I hadn’t really done anything yet。
I first realized the power of presence many years ago when a friend's mother passed away unexpectedly。

Unit 1 Living well李仕才一、阅读理解Kanda really doesn't like to walk alone. The scientist from a research institute of intelligent robots finds the experience so boring that he'd rather drive—even though he lives close to his lab and knows that walking is health y.“I enjoy walking with someone, like with my wife, with my daughter,” Kanda said.“But they are not always available.”So Kanda, who specializes in humanlike bots, developed a robotic walking partner that could make small talk based on its surroundings, which,he hopes, might motivate people to get out and exercise more. The bot rests on a person's shoulder like a boxy parrot. It weighs about a pound and a half and sits roughly 8.5 inches high, and is 3.5 inches wide and 10 inches long.A microphone,a speaker, and an internal camera allow it to communicate. It's even equipped with a smile.Kanda and his team collected video from five different locations, including a garden and a shopping mall, and created a dataset of small talk topics related to each location. Then they programmed the robot to associate visual cues with specific topics.A special speech software provided the robot with a voice.Near a group of parked cars, for example,it might say,“In a big parking lot, sometimes I forget where I parked.”They tested the robot on 15 volunteers,10 males and 5 females, who were paid and averaged about 26 years old.“Have you ever blown a puff of dandelion(蒲公英)seeds into the air?” The robot asked a participant, who smiled and responded,“Yes, I often did that when I was a child.” Alth ough several participants noted the robot's weight,Kanda was surprised that no one considered the experience strange or funny.“I guess people enjoy new technologies,” he said.Just like a human partner,Kanda's bot isn't perfect. It's not able to go for walks in heavy rain and, while the robot can make expressions,it can't really hold a conversation, about which Kanda is most worried.Despite its limits,Kanda was comforted by the bot's presence.“I felt a kind of sense of being with someone,”he said,“particularly when it spoke.”1.Why does Kanda have the idea of developing a robotic walking partner?A.Because he wants someone to accompany him while walking.B.Because he has never developed a robot like a parrot.C.Because his family are unwilling to walk with him.D.Because he is crazy about developing robots.2.What characteristic does the robot have?A.It can “speak” and “see”.B.It can walk like a human being.C.It can communicate with people freely.D.It is much more humorous than a real person.3.What is necessary for the robot to function?A.A small size. B.A boxy shape.C.A human partner. D.A speech software.4.What is Kanda most likely to do about his robot next?A.To make it more convenient to carry.B.To improve its conversational skills.C.To enable it to walk in heavy rain.D.To better its sound system.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了新研发的陪人散步的机器人。

(2018·河南洛阳高三第一次统考)All over the world mothers and fathers teach their children manners.Other children may have manners that are not like yours. There are all kinds of manners. Many years ago, children who had good manners were seen and not heard. They kept quite quiet if grownups were talking. Today, wellmannered children have more freedom.Sometimes good manners in one place are bad manners in other places. Suppose you are a visitor in the land of Mongolia. Some friends ask you to eat with them. What kind of manners do they want you to have? They want you to give a loud “burp(打嗝)” after you finish eating. Burping would show that you like your food. In some countries, if you give a loud burp, you are told to say “Excuse me, please.” In many places people like to eat together. But in some parts of Polynesia it is bad manners to be seen eating at all. People show good manners by turning their backs on others while they eat. What are manners like in an East African town? The people try not to see you. They are being polite. You may see a friend. He may not see you at all. If you are polite, you will sit down beside him. You will wait until he finishes what he is doing. Then he will talk to you.Suppose you visit a friend in Arabia. You should walk behind the other tents until you come to his tent.If you pass in front of the other tents, you will be asked into each one.The people will ask you to eat with them. And it is bad manners if you say no.Manners are different all over the world. But it is good to know that all manners begin in the same way.People need ways to show that they want to be friends.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了世界上一些地方的礼仪。
(2018·湖南益阳质检)The new film Chappie features an artificially intelligent robot that becomesself-aware and must learn to distinguish the competing forces of kindness and dishonesty in a human world.Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the film takes place in the South African city of Johannesburg. The movie’s events occur when the city has organized a force of police robots to fight crime. One of these robots, named “Chappie”,receives an upgrade that makes him self-aware.Existing AI computer systems modeled on the human brain are able to learn from experience. But Chappie goes beyond what current systems can do,because he becomes sentient. There’s a moment during the film when he says,“I am Chappie.” “That statement,if that’s truly result of a reasoning process and not trained, that is huge,” Wolfgang Fink,a physicist and AI expert at Caltech and the University of Arizona, said. The machine would be able to discriminate between self and nonself, which is a “key quality of any truly self-governing system,” Fink said.To create Chappie, actor Sharlto Copley performed the part, and a team of animators “painted” the robot over his performance. But unlike many other special-effects-heavy films,Chappie did not use motion capture, which involves an actor wearing a special suit with reflective markers attached and having cameras capture the performer’s movements.Instead, the animators did that by hand.Because Chappie is a robot,Chappie was given an expressive pair of “ears”,a forehead bar and a j awbar, which could express a fairly wide range of emotions. In the film,Chappie’s “humanity” is sharply contrasted with the inhumanity of Hugh Jackman’s character Vincent Moore, who is developing a robot called the “Moose” in opposition to artificial intell igence.Jackman himself takes a more positive view of AI.“I’m a firm believer that the pull for human beings is toward the good generally outweighing the bad,” Jackman said. But Stephen Hawking have sounded alarms about the dangers of artificial intelligence, calling it humanity’s “biggest threat”.1.What can the underlined word “sentient”(Paragraph 2)be replaced by?A.Self-confident.B.Self-directed.C.Self-employed.D.Selfish.2.What would Sig,a robot, say if it has the ability of reasoning?A.This is Sig’s book.B.This book is mine.C.Sig’s book is over there.D.Who takes the book over there?3.How did the film show the inner feelings and affections of Chappie?A.By painting the robot over Copley’s performance.B.By attaching reflective markers on Copley’s suits.C.By using plenty of special effects in motion capture.D.By giving Chappie a pair of moving ears on the face.4.Why does Stephen Hawking see AI as the biggest threat to humans?A.He fears AI may be beyond our control one day.B.He fears AI may learn dishonesty from humans.C.Many scientists are still so optimistic about AI.D.Many people are developing robots against AI.〚导学号23500074〛Ⅱ.完形填空(2017·天津卷)At my heaviest I weighed 370 pounds.I had a very poor relationship
