本单元的主要内容是根据马克·吐温名著《百万英镑》改编成的剧本中的几个片段。
从本单元话题内容和功能上分析,Warming up, Pre-reading和Reading (剧中第一幕第三场)整合成一堂阅读课。
1)“热身”(Warming Up)部分提供一小段马克·吐温的简介,通过对马克·吐温及其作品的讨论引发学生学习兴趣,使学生对马克·吐温及共作品有初步了解。
2)“读前”(Pre-reading)部分要求学生观看影片,评价店主态度。
3)“阅读”(Reading)部分是剧中第一幕的第三场。
年老富有的两兄弟打赌,赌一个贫穷老实的人获得一张百万英镑的钞票后会有什么样的后果,他们发现了在大街上游荡的美国人亨利·亚当斯,在询问了一系列问题之后,他们认定身无分文的亨利就是最合适打赌的人选,于是就将百万英镑的钞票放在一个信封里交给了他。

本节阅读课分为三大板块(读前活动、阅读活动与巩固活动),其中读前活动包括观看影片及积累词汇,拉开序幕,进入主题。
阅读活动分为仔细阅读,提取信息;复述故事;分组讨论,体会主题。
阅读后进行归纳总结。
由介绍故事导入,到阅读,到复述故事,表达看法,每个环节训练的侧重点各不相同,但能力要求逐步深入,形成了完整的语言输入——语言输出的过程。
教学过程
Step I:Warming-up Activities
1.Show the picture of Mark Twain and gain the information about him. [设计意图] 使用作者的图片导入,让学生先从熟悉作者开始本节课。
2.Free talk
Show a student an envelope and ask her what’s in it. Then ask her what would she do if she were given much money.
[设计意图] 通过一个小小的对话,让学生开始讨论“If you were given much money by others,what would you like to do?”

[设计意图]“读前”设计了三个问题需要学生回答,用来检查学生的预习情况。

Read through the passage and find out information about this play(including time,place,characters and event)

Activity 2: Skimming
Skim the passage and answer three questions.
[设计意图] 在学生已经粗略知道文章的答题信息之后,让学生带着问题再读课文,然后回答,训练学生在阅读活动中如何获取信息,理解全文,如何思考、解决问题的能力。
Step ⅣCareful- reading(Role-play)
Read for the third time and fill in the blanks.

课后反思:
本单元是学生在高中英语必修阶段接触的第一个剧本,由于体裁的特殊性,不一定要拘泥于日常的阅读教学步骤,不一定非要让学生进行快速阅读,然后过渡到仔细阅读。
而是利用播放电影片断,在多媒体教学环境下实施的大容量、快节奏的课堂教学。
本节课的内容含量并不小,要有效地控制好整个教学节奏,教师也设计了灵活的教学步骤,譬如最后的讨论也可以作为课后作业。
在语言实践活动中,如何调动学生积极性和提高学生英语表达能力,是教师在往后的教学中要努力的一个主要方面。
