Ahhh, the great outdoors! You can’t beat it, can you? Clean air

and beautiful countryside are just what you need to help you relax.

What’s the best way to enjoy it? By camping of course!

So you want to go? Well, first of all, where will you camp? There

are camping grounds all over China. Do you want to explore lakes, 预习

课堂 创新 mountains, the forest or the seaside? The choice is yours!

You will need a tent. Most tents are made of light,

brightly-coloured material and are easy to put up. They come with a

groundsheet, which stops water getting in, as well as a fly screen, so

that bugs don’t fly into your tent at night.

Take a sleeping bag and sleeping mat. Check the weather! Are you

going somewhere cold or hot? You can buy sleeping bags of different

thicknesses.

Make sure you bring the right clothes. If you want to go hiking,

you will need a strong pair of walking boots, some lightweight trousers,

and a waterproof coat. A good map and compass are needed too.

Cooking outside is fun. Make sure you put your camping stove far

away from the tent, too close and you might cause a fire. Bring packaged

food as you will not have a refrigerator. Also, plastic cups and plates

are lighter to carry than china. Make sure you bring enough clean water.

Taking water from streams and lakes is dangerous, as it might be polluted.

If you are going to a faraway area, pack an “emergency survival

kit” (急救箱). This should contain a survival bag of tough plastic, big

enough for you to fit into. Also a whistle (口哨), pocket-knife, torch (手电筒) and some emergency food and water. Make sure you always tell

someone where you are going.

Have you got all that? So get shopping! Your first camping trip is just

around the corner.
