它通过有节奏、韵律的语言反映生活、抒发感情。
这一点世界各种语言通行,英文自然也不例外。
英文诗歌类型多样,如莎士比亚时代的十四行诗等。
但总体来说,从现代英文诗歌韵脚特征上看,可以分成有韵脚诗和无韵脚诗两类。
有韵脚诗歌往往两行押一元音韵脚,甚至多行押同一元音韵脚,每行无论文字多少重音节奏趋于相同,富于节拍性,读来有较强的节奏感;无韵脚诗不强调行尾韵脚,无需考虑押韵的问题,且每行长短有别,读来节拍性不如有韵脚诗那么强。
但是,无韵脚诗并非毫无节奏,它往往通过相同的语句结构普和反复重复的元、辅音发音进行弥补,令人读来别有一番情趣。
以本单元Mom knows best为例,在这一无韵脚诗中,我们读到大量的When...,I should be allowed to ...和I...语句,我们耳畔不停地想起“I”音和“s(z)”音。
这些语句结构和语音特点陈铎出诗歌的复现性特征,加之各行自身的语句重音,体现了节奏感,弥补了失缺韵脚的不足。
在书写上,英文诗歌并非完全以句断行,这在有韵脚诗歌中更为突出。
