1all elements are composed of scattered units called atoms,which are the smallest particles than
show the characteristics of the element. atoms are tiny units of matter composed of positively
charged protons, negatively charged elements ,and electrically neutral neutrons. protons and
neutrons, which have almost the same mass,are clustered in the nucleus in the middle of the atom.
electrons,which are tiny in comparison to the other units, move around the nucleus at high speed.
atoms that have the same number of electrons and protons are electrically neutral. those that have
got or lost electrons,and therefor are positively or negatively charged, are called ions.
