services the merchandise he sells. Third, the retailer aids in promoting the product, often through displays and

advertising. Fourth, the retailer may finance the customer by extending credit. Further, the retailer performs storage

function in his outlet, by having goods available.

析：原文中所有的定冠词the在译文中都没有被翻译出来，因为它们在这里都是泛指。当英语中的‚冠词the+名词‛或者‚冠词a/an+名词‛表示泛指时，该冠词往往不翻译成汉语；但如果冠词是表示特指，就必须将该冠词翻译成汉语。

摘 要] 本文通过案例从词语涵义、文化差异、专业背景、专业界定的角度简要阐述了国际商务 英语 的 翻译 策略。

国际商务英语属于特殊用途英语(English for special purpose)的范畴。在美国，商务英语指的是“商务沟通之用语也”(Mary Ellen Guffey,1999). 它注重的是在商务沟通中口语与书面表达的正确的字，词，句，段落甚至文章的特有结构和规律。国际商务英语的语体和翻译不仅涉及英语语言，要求翻译者熟悉相关英语

词汇 的确切涵义，理解句子在上下文中的语言及文化背景，还同时涉及商务专业知识，要求了解和熟悉经济，贸易，金融等许多相关专业的一般内容乃至更多的相关商务背景知识。这是因为一方面，商务英语涉及的部门经济学门类多，知识面广，不容易一下子贯通掌握;另一方面，大多数的翻译者对商务英语词或句的理解常常停留在字面意思或机械对应上，对其本质涵义的了解不够准确，对其涉及文化或专业背景的内涵理解不到位，屡屡闹出释义或翻译表达上的差错，造成了知识错位,概念不清,内容混淆，定义含糊。

理解对于翻译的重要性是不言而喻的。翻译中理解常常是第一位的，没有对原文意思准确，到位的把握和理解，就不可能有忠实、精确的表达。专业英语翻译在准确方面上的要求比普通的文学翻译要严格的多，因为专业英语的翻译涉及政治，经济，法律等诸多方面，其对选词的精确要求不能有丝毫马虎，商务英语的翻译对于理解的要求更高。其中有不少内容需要探讨，有许多概念需要界定，有诸多定义需要明确。这就要求译者不仅具有扎实的英语语言基本功，还要尽可能多而广的熟悉相关的专业知识，不仅如此，还要对这些知识有比较透彻的理解和娴熟的掌握。这里有对词语涵义的理解问题，有文化差异方面的理解问题，有词语上下文的专业背景方面的理解问题，也有词语专业界定上的理解问题等。
