Dream Came True
Long time ago, there was a little boy who called Jerry lived with his parents in a small town where neared sea and surrounded by mountains. Jerry didn’t have brothers or sisters so he always played alone along the seaside. Every time he played along the seaside, he used sand to make different kinds of castles which he thought might be the same as the outside world like and dreamed of going outside some day. In his imagination, the world outside the big sea and mountains would be totally different from his small town. The outside world had many beautiful buildings, many delicious foods, many children to play with and the streets were much busier while the small town was so quiet and didn’t have any connection with others except the villagers.
One day, Jerry came to the seaside as usual. This time, after making a castle, he made a fairy for which he thought that should be someone lived in it. When he was satisfied with what he has done and kept thinking about what the outside world life could be, a strong wind suddenly came and the sand danced in the sky which made little Jerry felt terrible. After few minutes, the wind stopped, and Jerry was so surprised to found that there was a beautiful girl who was flying over his head.
“Hello, Jerry. I’m the fairy you have made just now.” the beautiful girl said.
“Hello, fairy. But but how could it be …” Jerry was so astonished that could not say a whole sentence.
“Take it easy, little Jerry. I’m not here to hurt you. I have stayed in the sea for a long time to protect the villagers in this small town, so I know everything which happened to yours. I know you made various castles, which I really appreciate and
enjoy seeing everyday. You do have creative thought and do well in your handicrafts. To my surprise, you make a fairy which is very similar to me today. So I decide to come out to thanks for your beautiful arts which make me happier everyday and help you achieve your dream. Give you one chance to look around the real outside world.”The fairy said to Jerry with a warm smile.
“Is that true? Is that not a dream?” Jerry asked happily.
“Yes, of course. Just come with me.” The fairy answered.
Jerry ran after the fairy, gradually, he was flying. Flying over the sea, across the mountains…
“Wow, so many beautiful buildings, so many children play together… Cool, that’s the food I haven’t seen before…” Jerry shouted out happily through his trip.
Jerry’s laugh resounded on the sky, that’s the happiness about dream came true.。

龙源期刊网 “a dream come true”的前世今生作者：闫跃来源：《英语学习》2019年第08期“a dream come true”这一结构，到底是对还是错呢？倘若是对的，又该如何理解呢？如果说它是个句子，可谓语动词又有语法错误；如果说它是个短语，那动词短语come true又应作何解释呢？本文拟对这些问题作一探讨。

一、完成式结构的历史与传承我们知道，现代英语中，完成式由“have + 过去分词”构成。

然而，在古英语中，及物动词完成式的结构为“hav e + 过去分词”，而不及物动词完成式的结构为“be + 过去分词”。

比如，古英语中说“He is come.”表示“他已经来了。

”诚然，在现代英语中，不管动词是否及物，其完成式均结合助动词have加以构成。

但不可忽视的是，有少数不及物动词仍蕴含古英语遗风，其完成式存在两种结构并存的情况，且这两种结构的核心意义相同，不同之处在于，“be + 过去分词”侧重表示状态（state），而“have + 过去分词”侧重表示动作（action）。

例如：Spring is come. 春天来了，万物生机盎然。

（= Springhas come and everything is full of life.）The sun is set. 太阳下山了。

（= The sun has set and isno longer in the sky.）The city is fallen. 那座城市沦亡了。

（= The city hasfallen and is in a state of decay.）The snow is melted. 雪化了。

（= The snow has meltedand none of it can be seen any more.）The weeds are grown in the fields. 田里长满了野草。

（= The weeds have grown everywhere and the fields arenow full of them.）同样地，以下例句均侧重表示状态，如果要侧重表示动作，则可将动词be换成have：All hope is gone. 所有的希望都没了。
