Sky Watch

Today the wind and rain drove fiercely against my apartment

window. It was the tail end of a typhoon(台风). Every year, as the

calendar indicates the approach of autumn, these destructive

tropical(热带的) storms account for both death and destruction along

Asia’s coasts. On an average there may be fifteen such storms every

year. Although many civilians adopt a casual attitude towards these

events, awareness is advisable.

As the water dripped from my balcony and accumulated into free-flowing rivers on the road beneath, I was reminded of the extreme

weather that affected the residents of North America. Hurricanes(飓风), tornadoes(龙卷风), snowstorms, ice storms and electrical storms

are all examples of extreme weather that may challenge an entire

China's 2nd lunar probe探测器 Chang'e-2 blasts off点火起飞

China launched发射 its second unmanned无人的 lunar probe, Chang'e-2 on Friday,

inaugurating开辟 the second phase of a three-step moon mission, which will

culminate到达顶点 in a soft-landing软着陆 on the moon.

At 6:59:57 pm, the satellite人造卫星 blasted off on a Long March 长征3C carrier

rocket运载火箭 from No 2 launch tower at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in

southwest China's Sichuan Province.

"Chang'e-2 lays foundation基础，基金 for 埋伏着等待the soft-landing on the moon

and further exploration of outer space太空," said Wu Weiren, chief designer of

China's lunar orbiter绕月轨道 project.

Chang'e-2 entered the orbit with a perigee近地点 of 200 kilometers and apogee远地点 of 380,000 kilometers as scheduled. There it separated from分开，分离 the

carrier rocket.

It was the first time that a Chinese lunar probe directly entered the earth-moon
