1Unit 3 - Our Colorful WorldHiya friends! It's me again, your pal Jimmy. I've got another super awesome story to share about what we learned in English class. This time it's all about Unit 3 - "Our Colorful World". Get ready for an adventure! So it all started when our teacher, Mrs. Roberts, was telling us how different colors can mean different things in different cultures. She said things like red meaning luck in China, or purple standing for royalty and wealth. I thought that was really neat! Then we learned about all these fun festivals from around the world that celebrate color in amazing ways. Like Holi in India where people throw bright powdered pigments at each other. Or the Lantern Festival in Taiwan with those beautiful glowing lanterns. I would love to go to one of those someday!Next up, we read this wild story called "The Black Rock" by Amanda Blackburn. It was about these kids who found a weirdblack rock on the beach that ended up being an alien egg! When it hatched, there was this teeny tiny alien inside. The kids had to keep it a secret and figure out a way to get it back home. Crazy stuff! After that thrilling tale, we learned how to describe colors using adjectives like "vibrant", "muted", "pastel" and "neon". My favorite was "fluorescent" - it reminds me of those glowing lava lamps I had as a kid. We practiced using the adjectives to talk about colors we saw in nature, art, clothes, you name it.Then we moved on to idioms and expressions that use colors. Like "feeling blue" for being sad, or "seeing red" when you're angry. I always get a kick out of those funny sayings! We did activities matching the idioms to their meanings. Harder than I thought, let me tell ya!The pinnacle though, was when we put together our own "Color Festival" presentations. We got into groups and each group picked a color to represent a cultural festival or celebration. My group did yellow for Thailand's Songkran water festival. We made this epic poster board with pictures, descriptions of traditions, and key vocabulary words in both English and Thai. For the presentation part, we dressed up in traditional Thai clothes and put on a little skit acting out the water fights and celebrations. I, of course, played the lead role as the prince leading the festivities. What can I say, I'm a natural performer! At the very end, we had our whole class Color Festival where each group set up their display and we went around learning about all the awesome color traditions. The Mexican Día de los Muertos with vibrant orange marigolds, Chinese New Year with lucky red envelopes, the Brazilian Carnival overflowing with rainbows - I loved seeing all the different ways cultures around the world incorporate such meaningful symbols and colors into their most important events.Phew, that was a lot of colorful adventures packed into one unit! Speaking of colors, I'm starting to turn a little green just thinking about all the hard work we did. Maybe I'll take a break, kick back, and watch the clouds go by. Thanks for listening to my tale - until next time, stay colorful, my friends!篇2Unit 3 - A World of SportsHi there! I'm going to tell you all about sports from my English textbook. Sports are really cool and fun. There are somany different sports to play and watch. Let me start by talking about some of the most popular sports.Soccer is one of the biggest sports in the world. Millions and millions of people love playing soccer and watching soccer matches. In soccer, two teams of 11 players try to kick the ball into the other team's net. The players can only use their feet, head and body - no hands allowed except for the goalies! Soccer games are 90 minutes long with two 45-minute halves. The team with the most goals at the end wins. Soccer is fast-paced and exciting with players constantly running up and down the big field. The World Cup is the biggest soccer tournament where national teams from all over compete every four years.Another super popular sport is basketball. Basketball is played on a rectangular court with two teams of five players each. The goal is to throw the ball through the high hoop or basket at each end. You can dribble (bounce) the ball while running or pass it to teammates. Only the offensive team can score points. Basketball moves really quickly with players running, jumping, shooting and lots of action. The NBA is the top professional basketball league where the best players from around the world compete. Now let me talk about baseball. Baseball is hugely popular too, especially in the United States. Two teams of 9 players take turns batting and fielding. When batting, players try to hit the ball the pitcher throws and then run around four bases to score a run. When fielding, players try to get the batters out by catching fly balls, throwing runners out, and other ways. Baseball games have 9 innings and can last a few hours. It's a strategic game with a lot of stats and records that fans love following. The World Series is the biggest baseball championship. Those are some of the biggest sports, but there are tons of other fun sports too! Tennis is a hugely popular one-on-one sport played on a court with rackets and a ball. You have to hit the ball back and forth over the net and try to win points. The big championships are Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. There's also golf where players use clubs to hit a small ball into holes on a big grassy course. Golf requires a lot of precision and concentration. The Masters is one of golf's biggest events.Swimming is a really healthy sport where swimmers race different strokes and distances in pools or open water. Running is another healthy sport with track events like sprints andlong-distance marathons. Gymnastics is a beautiful and impressive sport with athletes doing amazing flips and tricks ondifferent apparatuses. Things like diving, figure skating, and skiing show off athletes' grace and skill too.Of course I can't forget about sports that involve fights or combat! Boxing is where two opponents punch each other while wearing big padded gloves. The goal is to score points off good punches or knock your opponent out. Wrestling involves grappling and pinning your opponent to a mat. Martial arts like karate, judo, and taekwondo have a lot of kicking and striking following certain rules. These combat sports take a lot of discipline and training!Whew, that's just a small sample of all the awesome sports out there! Sports are so much fun to play and watch. They help you stay active and healthy. They teach important values like teamwork, perseverance, and good sportsmanship. People play sports competitively to test their skills and win championships. But sports are also just entertaining for fans to watch in person or on TV. No matter what sport it is, the rivalries, comebacks, and big moments always have you on the edge of your seat cheering.I really hope you enjoyed learning about some of the coolest sports from around the world! From fast-paced action to intense athletics to strategic thinking, all sports are awesome in their own ways. Whether you're into the global legends like soccerand basketball or you prefer some underdog sports, give a new game a try. Who knows, you may find your new favorite sport! Thanks for reading, stay active, and play on!篇3Unit 3: My Dream VacationHi there! My name is Tommy and I'm in 7th grade. I really like learning English because it helps me understand movies, video games, and songs from other countries. Plus, I might get to travel someday and speaking English will help me talk to people. In our latest English unit, we learned all about vacations and travel. We practiced describing vacation activities, talking about past trips, and discussing future travel plans. It was a fun unit because everyone shared their dream vacation ideas! To start the unit, we learned vocabulary words related to vacations like sightseeing, souvenirs, sightseeing, accommodations, and jet lag. The vocabulary really helped me imagine what my dream vacation would be like. I think it would involve a lot of sightseeing to see cool landmarks and museums. And I'd definitely want to buy fun souvenirs to remember the trip.Next, we practiced using the past tense to describe vacations we've already taken. I wrote about the time my family went to the beach last summer. We stayed in a hotel right near the ocean. We went swimming, built sandcastles, and ate lots of ice cream! Using the past tense let me retell that fun experience. Then we learned how to talk about future vacation plans using "will" and "going to." I wrote about my dream vacation that I'm going to take after I graduate from high school. I'm going to travel to Japan with some friends. We're going to visit Tokyo, see the famous Mount Fuji, and go to amazing anime museums! Using "will" and "going to" helped me vividly describe that future dream trip. One of my favorite activities was giving a presentation about our dream vacations to our classmates. I talked all about my dream trip to Japan and showed pictures of the places I want to go. My friend Amy's dream was to go on an African safari. Listening to everyone share their dream vacation ideas sparked my imagination and made me really excited to travel more in the future. The unit wrapped up with us writing a creative essay describing a wacky dream vacation. We had to use as much of the unit's vocabulary and grammar as we could. I wrote aboutmy dream vacation...to Mars! I wrote about how I was going to ride a rocket ship into space, go sightseeing around the red planet, buy lots of Mars rock souvenirs, and hopefully not get too much jet lag on the long flight home to Earth. It was really fun making up a silly travel story using everything we had learned.Overall, this unit on vacations and travel was one of my favorites so far in English class. I feel like I know so many helpful vocabulary words and grammar patterns for talking and writing about trips now. I can't wait until I get to take my real dream vacations when I'm older! This unit showed me how useful and fun English can be for exploring amazing places around the world. Maybe I'll even get to use my English skills to talk to some aliens on Mars someday!篇4Unit 3: A Trip to Grandma's HouseI'm so excited to tell you all about Unit 3 in our English book! It was all about going on a trip to visit my grandma. She lives far away in the countryside, so we don't get to see her very often. But this unit taught me all about how to plan a trip, what to pack, and how to have fun adventures along the way!The first lesson was on vocabulary for traveling. We learned words like "suitcase", "backpack", "map", "camera", and "passport". My favorite new word was "snacks" because who doesn't love eating yummy treats on a long car ride? We had to match pictures to the words and use them in sentences. "I packed my suitcase with clothes and my camera to take pictures," like that.Next, we started reading a really cool story called "The Open Road". It was about a brother and sister who went on a road trip with their parents to visit their grandma. In the story, they played games in the car, stopped at weird roadside attractions, and had picnics. I wish my family did fun things like that when we traveled! We just listen to the radio and nap. There were chapters in the story, and after each one, we had to answer comprehension questions. Things like "Why did they stop at the Biggest Ball of Twine?" and "What did they name the smashed up soda can they found?" It really made you think about all the little details. We also learned some idioms related to traveling, like "are we there yet?" and "I've got to go to the bathroom!"For the writing section, we had to keep a journal just like the kids in the story. We wrote entries about pretend trips, describing what we saw, ate, did, and how we felt. My journey started as a normal trip to Grandma's, but then a flat tire led to all sorts of crazy adventures! We got to be creative and use our new vocabulary. There were also lessons on grammar, like present tense for things happening now and past tense for describing events. We did loads of practice exercises to get it right. Grammar is probably my least favorite part, but I know it's important.Towards the end, we learned about travel brochures and had to make our own to advertise our fictional dream vacation spot. I made mine about a beach resort with waterslides,all-you-can-eat ice cream, and bungalows in the trees. Doesn't that sound awesome?! On the brochure I used descriptive language and persuasive writing techniques like "You simply MUST experience..." and "Your journey will NOT be complete without..."The very last thing we did was perform some role-plays where we acted out travelling situations. Like checking into a hotel, ordering food, asking for directions, and dealing with missed buses or trains. It was fun but also really helpful practice for if we ever travel without our parents someday! That's a wrap on Unit 3 - I gave it two thumbs up! It combined so many useful skills like reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Plus, it got me excited about taking trips and exploring new places. Next up is a unit all about shopping...I bet it will be just as engaging. Gotta run, mom's calling me for dinner! Let me know if you need any more deets on this unit. Peace out!篇5Unit 3 - A World of WondersWow, Unit 3 was really awesome! We learned so much about amazing places and things all over the world. I want to tell you about some of the coolest stuff we covered.First up, we read about the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Can you believe those huge pyramid-shaped tombs were built like 4,500 years ago? And they're so massive - the biggest one is over 450 feet tall! That's like a 40-story building. The ancient Egyptians who built them must have been super smart architects and engineers. I can't even imagine how they moved all those giant stone blocks weighing tons and tons. Some people think aliens from outer space helped them! Haha just kidding, but they are pretty out of this world.Speaking of out of this world, we also learned about the Moai statues on Easter Island. This tiny remote island in the Pacific Ocean has almost 1,000 of these giant stone human figures scattered all over. The biggest one is over 30 feet tall and weighs 82 tons! That's as heavy as 12 elephants. Nobody really knows why the ancient Rapa Nui people who lived there made them. Maybe they were guardians or represented important leaders. Or maybe...they were actually aliens!! Just joking again. But isn't it crazy to think how these islanders moved those colossal statues around back then without modern machines?Okay, so get this - we studied this mountain in Tanzania called Mount Kilimanjaro. It's the tallest mountain in Africa at almost 20,000 feet high! That's so tall that there's snow and glaciers at the top even though it's near the equator. Imagine having to climb up that high - your head would feel like it was going to explode from the thin air. Some very brave and adventurous mountain climbers have made it all the way up though. I don't think I could ever do that. I get tired just thinking about it!Another amazingly tall thing we covered was the Redwood trees in California. These giant sequoia trees can grow over 300 feet tall! That's like a 30-story skyscraper made of wood. Andthey're so wide that it would take around 20 people holding hands to wrap their arms all the way around the trunk. Redwoods are some of the biggest living things on Earth and can live for thousands of years. Just picturing one makes me feel so small. It would be so cool to visit the Redwood National Park and see them up close.I could go on and on about the awesome world wonders we learned, like the Northern Lights, Angel Falls waterfall, the Great Barrier Reef, and so much more. But I have to stop somewhere so I can tell you about my favorite part - when we did our group projects on different natural wonders. My group chose to research The Wave in Arizona. It's this crazy cool rock formation in the desert that looks like a frozen ocean wave made of sandstone! The colors and stripes are so beautiful and trippy. It was formed by erosion over millions of years of wind and water shaping the soft rocks. Only 20 people per day are allowed to visit The Wave now because it was starting to get damaged by too many hikers. Can you imagine having that whole incredible place all to yourselves? We made this rad poster showing the groovy swirled patterns and did a presentation talking about the geological forces that created it. Ithink we did a pretty good job because Mrs. Jenkins gave us an A!There's just so much incredible stuff in nature that makes you go "whoa, now that's amazing!" Learning about all these world wonders really opened my eyes to how wacky and wonderful our planet is. It makes me want to be an explorer or adventurer when I grow up so I can go see places like that for myself. Or maybe a tour guide showing people around to examine trippy rock formations and towering ancient statues. Whatever I end up doing, I know studying these marvels has really sparked my curiosity about the world. I can't wait until next year when we get to learn about even more mind-blowing natural and human-made wonders!篇6Unit 3 - Our Wonderful WorldHi there! This is me writing about Unit 3 in our awesome 7th grade English book. Unit 3 was all about nature and the environment. It had some really cool readings and activities that taught us lots of new words and ideas. Let me tell you all about it!The first part was called "The Beauty of Nature." We read this neat article about how amazing and pretty the natural world is. It described breathtaking landscapes like vast deserts, towering mountains, and endless oceans. My favorite part was when it talked about rainforests because those places seem like real-life fantasies with all the crazy plants and animals. We learned vocabulary words like "lush," "serene," and "pristine" to describe unspoiled natural places. The activity for this reading had us write a descriptive paragraph using those new vocab words. I wrote about imagining a secret forest glade hidden deep in the woods. Computing technology these days lets us look up awesome photos online for inspiration too!Next up was a section called "Environmental Concerns." This one was more serious as it looked at problems like pollution, deforestation, and endangered species. Some of the facts were pretty scary, like about how much plastic ends up in the oceans each year. But it also gave me hope by explaining how we can reduce our impact through simple habits like recycling and saving energy. New words I learned include "sustainable," "conservation," and "biodiversity." For the activity, we had to make posters displaying steps people can take to be moreeco-friendly. My group did ours on composting food scrapsinstead of throwing them away. Looking at those issues made me realize how we all need to do our part as global citizens. The third part of the unit moved in a more positive direction with sections on "Natural Wonders" and "Amazing Ecosystems." These celebrated incredible places around the world that everybody should try to see one day if they can. The "Natural Wonders" reading described marvels like the Grand Canyon, Aurora Borealis, and Great Barrier Reef. The pictures looked unreal! "Amazing Ecosystems" went into cool details about how rainforests, coral reefs, and other environments work. Did you know how important bees are as pollinators? Wild facts like that make me appreciate nature even more. For these readings, we had to do group projects researching a natural wonder or ecosystem of our choice and making presentations about their significance. My team picked glaciers because of how their melting is a consequence of climate change. I'm becoming such a tree-hugger after this unit! The last main piece we covered was "Indigenous Cultures." This looked at how many traditional societies have lived in harmony with their environments for centuries. We learned about their sustainable practices, nature-inspired folklore, and efforts to preserve their ways of life in modern times. New vocabwords here were "indigenous," "folklore," and "subsistence." The activity had us writing stories inspired by nature from the perspective of an indigenous person. Mine imagined the origin story of how the sun and moon were formed according to a made-up tribe. I tried putting myself in their mindset of seeing the sacred wonder in the world around them.By the end of Unit 3, I felt like my eyes had been opened to how beautiful yet fragile our planet really is. The materials taught useful words to discuss the environment while also making me want to cherish and protect nature more. I'll never take clean air, water, and thriving ecosystems for granted again! This unit convinced me that we all need to be environmentally conscious if we want to preserve Earth's majesty for future generations. Even simple individual actions can make a big difference when multiplied by millions of people. After studying this, I have a new appreciation for the outdoors and am。

I get a kick out of you 我觉得你真带劲儿Scientists are finding that, after all, love really is down to a chemical addiction between people.
OVER the course of history it has been artists, poets and playwrights who have made the greatest progress in humanity's understanding of love. Romance has seemed as inexplicable as the beauty of a rainbow. But these days scientists are challenging that notion, and they have rather a lot to say about how and why people love each other.
Is this useful? The scientists think so. For a start, understanding the neurochemical pathways that regulate social attachments may help to deal with defects in people's ability to form relationships. All relationships, whether they are those of parents with their children, spouses with their partners, or workers with their colleagues, rely on an ability to create and maintain social ties. Defects can be disabling, and become apparent as disorders such as autism and schizophrenia—and, indeed, as the serious depression that can result from rejection in love. Research is also shedding light on some of the more extreme forms of sexual behaviour. And, controversially, some utopian fringe groups see such work as the doorway to a future where love is guaranteed because it will be provided chemically, or even genetically engineered from conception.
The scientific tale of love begins innocently enough, with voles. The prairie vole is a sociable creature, one of the only 3% of mammal species that appear to form monogamous relationships. Mating between prairie voles is a tremendous 24-hour effort. After this, they bond for life. They prefer to spend time with each other, groom each other for hours on end and nest together. They avoid meeting other potential mates. The male becomes an aggressive guard of the female. And when their pups are born, they become affectionate and attentive parents. However, another vole, a close relative called the montane vole, has no interest in partnership beyond one-night-stand sex. What is intriguing is that these vast differences in behaviour are the result of a mere handful of genes. The two vole species are more than 99% alike, genetically.
Why do voles fall in love? The details of what is going on—the vole story, as it were—is a fascinating one. When prairie voles have sex, two hormones called oxytocin and vasopressin are released. If the release of these hormones is blocked, prairie-voles' sex becomes a fleeting affair, like that normally enjoyed by their rakish montane cousins. Conversely, if prairie voles are given an injection of the hormones, but prevented from having sex, they will still form a preference for their chosen partner. In other words, researchers can make prairie voles fall in love—or whatever the vole equivalent of this is—with an injection.
A clue to what is happening—and how these results might bear on the human condition—was found when this magic juice was given to the montane vole:it made no difference. It turns out that the faithful prairie vole has receptors for oxytocin and vasopressin in brain regions associated with reward and reinforcement, whereas the montane vole does not. The question is, do humans (another species in the 3% of allegedly monogamous mammals)have brains similar to prairie voles?
To answer that question you need to dig a little deeper. As Larry Young, a researcher into social attachment at Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, explains, the brain has a reward system designed to make voles (and people and other animals)do what they ought to. Without it, they might forget to eat, drink and have sex—with disastrous results. That animals continue to do these things is because they make them feel good. And they feel good because of the release of a chemical called dopamine into the brain. Sure enough, when a female prairie vole mates, there is a 50% increase in the level of dopamine in the reward centre of her brain.
