MAKE or DO
Have you ever heard of the word “collocations”? That means that some words “Collocate” with specific other ones. There is no rule, so the best way of learning a word is to know which words it collocates with. For example, in English I “do exercise” not “make exercise”: “do” collocates with “exercise.”
In these exercises I will give you the chance of testing how much you already know. One explanation could be:
a.You use “make” when you talk about actions that you can “make” with your hands.
b.You use “do” to express actions that have an every-day-activity value. NOTE: all expressions that
mean “housework” go with DO.
Although this doesn’t always follow… Feel free to use dictionaries and check all the expressions you do not know.
