Teaching aims: After learning this lesson the students should able to :
1.read the new words correctly and the text fluently
2.have a good understanding of the text
3.ask and answer questions on the text
4.understand the new language points and use them
Difficulty and important points: The usage of gerund
Teaching aids: computer, over projector, screen
Teaching procedures:
Step one: Greeting
Step two: Learning the new words and expressions
1.Ask some students to read the new words in the text, one student one word,
to check the pronunciation.
2.Give some explanation to some words and introduce some the usage of
them.

1. catch v. 抓到
2. fisherman n.钓鱼人
3. boot n.靴子
4. waste n.浪费
5. realize v.意识到
Step three: The comprehension of the text.
1.Listen to the recording of the text to get some information.
2.Pair work
Ask each pair of students to ask and answer question on the text to check t he students’ understanding of the text by Questions and answers
1.What is the writer’s favourite sport?
Fishing is the writer’s favourite sport.
2. What do some unlucky fishermen catch?
Some unlucky fishermen catch old boots and rubbish.
3. Is the writer as lucky as they are, or is he not so lucky?
The writer is not so lucky.
4.Does he ever catch anything?
He never catches anything.
5.Is he really interested in fishing?
He is not really interested in fishing.
6. What is the only thing that interests him?
Sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all is the only thing that interests him.
Step four: Summary writing
Ask the Ss to join the complete answers together to form the passage.
One possible version
Fishing is the writer’s favourite sport. Some unlucky fishermen catch old boots and rubbish. The writer is not so lucky. He never catches anything. He is not really interested in fishing. Sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all is the only thing that interests him.
