第一课时 Welcome to the unit

1. But he is modest and never shows off.

① show off炫耀;卖弄

show off sb. Eg. show off his excellent son炫耀他优秀的儿子

show off sth. ( to sb.) Eg. show off her new car to others向别人炫耀她的新车

★宾语为代词时放中间 show it/ them off

show off+宾语从句

Eg. He often shows off how well he speaks Chinese.他经常炫耀他汉语讲得如何的好。

② show.引,带,领;教,演示,展示(show- showed-showed/show- showed-shown)

show sb. around.领某人参观

show us how to use the computer给我们演示如何使用电脑

③ show n.演出,秀 Eg. a fashion show一场时装秀

2. Suzy is well organized. She keeps all her things in good order.

① order n.顺序;命令,指挥,要求 order vi&vt. 点(菜);订购

keep… in (good) order 使…保持井然有序→sth. be kept in(good) order.某物井然有序

obey the order服从命令

order a robot online网上订购机器人(指预订物品)

★book(指预订机票、房间等服务类项目)

②keep vt.保持;养,饲养;留有,不退还( keep-kept-kept)

keep sb./sth.+adj. 使某人/某物保持某种状态

keep (sb.) doing使某人一直做某事

keep on doing不断做(含“反复做”之意)

★keep是 borrow对应的延续性动词

Eg. How long can I keep the book? 这本书我可以借多久?

3. He often comes up with new ideas

① come up with… 想出(主意)= think of…

Eg. come up with such a good idea想出这么好的一个点子( come-came-come)

②与come相关的其他词组

come down崩塌 come from来自

come on来吧,赶快 come true变为现实

come first第一 come straight towards…朝……径直过来

4. Hobo, you’ve eaten up my breakfast.

① eat up sth./ eat sth. up宾语为代词时放中间 Eg. eat it up

②部分动词和up连用时有“完,光,结束”的意思

burn up烧光 use up用完

finish up做完 dry up干涸

drink up喝完 end up结束

第二课时 Reading 1

I. His sculptures… have won high praise from the art community

① praise un.赞扬,表扬 Eg, win high praise from 赢得…的高度赞扬

be full of praise for his progress对他的进步赞不绝口 (for表原因)

② praise vt. 赞扬,表扬 praise sb. for sth.( highly)

Eg. praise her for her beautiful handwriting 赞扬她优美的书写

2. Liu Hao is the chief engineer of the high-speed railway connecting Sunshine Town to Tianjin.

① connect vt.连接( connect-connected-connected/ connecting)

②主动用法 connect A to/ with B

Eg. The Internet connects us to the world.因特网把我们和世界连接在了一起

③被动用法 be connected to/with

Eg. Wuxi is connected to Nanjing by the railway,这条铁路把无锡和南京连接起来

④作定语后置

Eg. the underground connecting the town to the city centre. 连接域镇和市中心的地铁 (表主动)

the mouse connected to the computer连接到电脑上的鼠标 (表被动)

① carelessness un.粗心

Eg. a moment of carelessness 一时的疏忽大意

He failed in the exam because of his carelessness他因为粗心而没通过考试。

②与之相关的其他词性 careless adj. carelessly adv. / careful adj. carefully adv.

③ care vi.&n. 照料,照顾

care vi. 照顾,照料 care about关心,在意 care for照顾(尤指照顾老人、病人)

care n. 照顾,照料take (good) care of= care for= look after …(well) 照顾

① born adj.天生的Eg. a born leader天生的领导

② born. 出生,出世 (仅用于被动语态)

Jim was born in1976. 吉姆出生于1976年

be born+ adj. Eg. be born blind先天性失明

be born with+n. Eg. be born with blindness先天性失明

born with a silver spoon in your mouth (谚语) 出身富裕

③birth n. 出生,诞生

Eg. at birth出生时 your date and place of birth你的出生日期和地点

1. It's necessary to pay attention to every detail.

① pay attention to注意(重);讲究;集中注意力于(★ to为介词)

pay attention to sth. Eg. pay attention to every detail注意每个细节

pay attention to doing sth. Eg. pay attention to driving carefully注意小心驾驶

②可以用不同的词修饰attention来表示不同的程度 Eg. pay no attention to对…毫不关注

pay little attention to.对……几乎不注意; pay much/ more attention to.对……很/更关注

③被动的两种变化。

Eg. He paid special attention to his new works in yesterday's exhibition

His new works were paid special attention to in yesterday’s exhibition

Special attention was paid to his new works in yesterday's exhibition

2.To us, a miss is as good as a mile. 失之毫厘,谬以千里。

① as good as和……几乎一样,简直是 (= almost) Eg. He was as good as dead because of being too tired.他累得快要死了

Jim as good as agreed.杰姆等于是同意了。

② as good as和……一样好,来自于as.…as, 省略号处为形容词或副词原级。

Eg. Your watch is as good as mine.你的手表和我一样好。

3. As a doctor, you can’t be too careful. 作为医生,你再怎么细心也不为过

=You can never be too careful

①句中的can’t…too… 双重否定表肯定,意思是“无论怎样…也不过分,越……越好

Eg. A man can’t have too many ties. 男人永远不会嫌领带多。

=A man can never have too many ties.

②下列句式中的比较级否定式表最高级

I can’t agree more. 我非常赞同

It couldn’t be better. 再好不过

It couldn’t be worse.没比这更差的了

① devote oneself/time/life/ energy to sth. (★to为介词)
