The canals were narrow, and the boats had to be narrow too. The boats were used to transport coal, iron and steel. After railroads became common, narrow boats went out of fashion and were forgotten;only the canals remained. Why are the boats so popular today?First,as there are canals all over Britain.Narrow boats can be easily accessed.People do nothave to travel far or rush to an airport to start their vacations. Second, the boats are safe and easy to steer.Even though they have engines now, they sail just a little faster than walking speed,so no license is required. Finally, the slow pace makes the voyage fun.People on board enjoy saying hello to other boaters when they pass each other.Since most of the canals are for leisure use, nobody is in a hurry. In this way,British people can refresh themselves and forget about their busy life. What used to carry iron and steel now provides a slow, peaceful experience. Now listen again please.Questions:11.Why did people once stop using narrow boats?12.According to the passage, what is true of modern narrow boats?13.What is the passage mainly about?Questions14through16are based on the following passage.Ikea is known for designing furniture that people can put together themselves.Recently, five Ikea designers spent three days inside a Mars Research Center to get new design ideas. The Mars Desert Research Station in the US State of Utahoperated by the Mars Society attempts to create a Mars environment for humans taking part in experiments and training. There are also separate areas for eating, sleeping and other activities to prepare future space travelers for living in very small areas with limited supplies.Constance Adams,a space architect from NASA said the experience was meant to show the team how conditions in space affect the whole design process. For example, air is very limited in space and must be reused for many months, even years.Another consideration is the huge cost of space transportation.Adam said it would currently cost about two million dollars to transport just one kilo of mass to the surface of Mars.Marcus Enigma is Ikea’s head of design,“My dream outcome would be to solve the biggest problem on earth.I guess it’s the same problem in space, and that is the thing about storage. How could you make storage in a completely new way?Being put in such a different and demanding environment forces us to think much more creatively.”The Ikea designers are also working with NASA to create a space-inspired furniture collection to launch in2019,and who knows,Ikea might even make it to Mars someday. If so,the company’s popularproducts could be discovered by new life forms we don’t even yet know about. Now listen again please.Questions:14.Why did Ikea send a team to a Mars Research Center recently?15.What is true of the Mars Desert Research Station?16.What’s the biggest problem Ikea is facing when designing space-inspired furniture?Questions17through20are based on the following conversation.M:Today our guest is Sarah Jones ho recently did a survey of manners.I’ll let her explain what she did.Welcome!W:Thank you! Many people are complaining lately that people are becoming very rude,so we try to find out if that’s true.M:I see,but it’d be hard to test manners. How did you do it? W:We sent two reporters to large cities all around the world, to be exact, thirty five countries. We tested many different people, men, women, business people, high school students, police officers, anyone and everyone.M:So what’s the test?W:Well, the reporters did two things,a door test and a paper drop.First,we wanted to see if people would hold the door open for the reporters.M:Hmm,that’s simple. Then a paper drop?W:The reporters dropped a pile of papers to see if people would help pick them up.M:So what did you find?W:Ninety percent of the people passed the door test.M:Wow!W:But only fifty five percent helped pick the papers up.M:Only fifty-five?That’s not very good. But sometimes you just can’t help. What if your hands are full?W:Yes,but one woman had two cups of coffee on a tray and her keys and wallet in the other hand. She put everything in one hand and helped. The reporter wanted to help her.M:Did the reporter ask why she wanted to help?W:Well, she said“I was standing there.Of course I would help.”M:Oh!What a warm story! Now listen again please.Questions:17.What is the survey mainly concerned about?18.How did the reporters test people in the survey?19.How many countries were involved in the survey?20.Why does Sarah Jones mention the woman at the end of the interview? That’s the end of listening comprehension.二、试题部分I.Listening ComprehensionSection ADirections:In Section A,you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation,a question will be asked about what was said. When such problems are corrected, your home will be more energy efficient. While a professional energy check-up provides a complete picture of your home’s energy use, a diligent self-assessment can also help you find small problem areas. First, make a list of obvious air leaks. Check for indoor air leaks, such as gaps along the edge of the flooring and joints of the walls and ceiling. Also check for the leaks on the outside of your home, especially in areas where two different building materials meet. Finally, remember to check other places for leaks including windows, doors and switches. The potential energy savings from reducing leaks in the home may range from 10% to 20% per year. This do-it-yourself home energy checkup will not be as thorough as a professional home energy assessment, but it can help you highlight some of the easier areas to address. When walking through your home, keep a checklist of the areas you have inspected and theproblems you have found. This list will help you decide which energy efficiency upgrade should be given priority to.(Now listen again.)Questions:11. Which of the following is the most probable way to save energy in a house?12. Why does the speaker recommend you to keep a check list?13. What is the speaker mainly talking about?Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage.Seamus Heaney was awarded the Nobel prize in literature in 1995 when he was teaching at Harvard University. This 1986 poem relies on the power of repeating words and sounds. Heaney said in an interview. “There’s a kind of bell ringing quality to the poem, which makes it easy on the air.” He remembered writing just two poems during his early years at Harvard when he taught and read a lot. One poem is the anniversary poem. And the other is about learning the alphabets at primary school. Heaney also recalled the physical Harvard where he had many happy moments. He said, “I still remember the excitement of driving around the campus and seeing the outlines of the houses, and I enjoyed a few quite corners on campus where I would sit down and take a nap. The library at Adam's house for one and the Woodbury poetry room for another. Then there was the yard. One day, she had an idea for a dish washing machine that worked without using water. She went to see several dishwasher manufacturers about producing the machine, but none of themwere interested. Juana found investors to support her idea and founded her own production company. She spent millions of dollars on developing her dishwasher and it was put to the market three years later. From then on, sales were very good, better even than Juana had hoped. But Global Domestic, one of the companies that she had been to see, made its own waterless dishwasher. Juana obtained one and found that used the technical ideas she had developed. She had obtained legal protection for these ideas, so that other companies could not use them. After a long legal process, Global Domestic was forced to stop making its competing dishwasher and to pay Juana several million dollars. Now Juana's waterless dishwasher has 40% of the worldwide dishwasher market and this is increasing every year.Questions:11: How did the manufacturers feel about Juana's idea for a dishwasher?12: Why was Global Domestic forced to pay Juana much money?13: What is the story mainly about?Text 12Attention, please. In a moment, you'll be starting your tour, but there are just a few things I'd like to run through. The Globerger Island's National Park has come up with some rules which I'm going to read to you now. The most important rule is that no plants or animals or any other natural objects are to be removed from the park. Doing this could harm the balance of the park and it's also illegal. Also be careful not to transport any live material such as seeds and insects to the islands or from one island to another. These two is against the law. All the islands have their own unique plants and animals. And any introducedspecies could destroy the whole system. Please don't take any food with you. If you drop as much as an orange seed, it could grow into a tree and damage the existing system. Humans are only temporary visitors to these islands. And we want to make sure the only thing we leave behind is our footprints. Now moving to the wild life in the park, please don't touch the animals under any circumstances; because some animals are remarkably fear us but they will quickly lose this fearlessness if they are approached by humans. Don't feed the animals; don't leave litter on the islands or throw any off your boat. One way to decrease the weight in your bag is to buy some small bottles and pour into themjust enough shampoo for the holiday. Another idea is to collect samples of shampoo throughout the year, ready for use when holiday time comes around. What else need to go into the suitcaseClothes, of course. Don’t forget to roll them up: it not only saves space, but also helps reduce wrincling. Remember to put an alarm clock, washing powder and medicine in the suitcase. Still on the subject of the suitcase, to keep the suitcases safe, keep them simple. If you use very expensive designer suitcases, you’ll invite theft. A plain case won’t be noticed as much by thieves.11, According to the speaker, how can we decrease the weight in the bag?12. What does the speaker tell us to do to prevent theft?13. What is the speaker mainly talking about?Questions 14-16 are based on the following passage. Some people believe that spending quiet hours reading and thinking in a library is the best way to prepare for a debate contest. Most memory experts, however, would recommend preparing with team members. Doing so increases the rate of learning and the likelihood of remembering. When members of a debate team prepare together, they learn facts and master issues faster and more effectively than each individual could alone. Communication is essential to the ability to remember well, says a well-known psychologist. He has found that isolating yourself is about the worst thing you can do if you want to remember information. In other words, when you talk with others, whether it is to describe a movie, or complain about a difficult chapter in a textbook, you are actually strengthening your memory. The human memory works like a filing system. For a filing system to be effective, information has to be put in a logical place--inside a folder that includesrelated information. When the members of a debate team practice by using facts in support of an argument, they are exactly gathering related pieces of information into a single mental folder. And during an actual debate, when the pressure is on,they will be more easily recalled than those memorized as isolated pieces of information.14. What do memory experts think of reading and thinking quietly in debate preparation?15. In which situation are people most likely to improve their memory?16. In what way do human memory work like a filing systemQuestions 17-20 are based on the following conversation.M: Last night, the new said that in some cities they are thinking of turning of public water supply during part of each day.W: Hum, there is a shortage of water here, too. Is there anything we can do to helpWater is so important.M: Sure, there are many things we can do to cut down on the amount of water we use. One is to change some of the things in the bathroom.W: Hum, don’t you think changing the bathroom can be too expensive?M: I don’t mean to change everything just… Well, for instance, the shower head. There are new ones on the market that saves almost 50 percent of the water. They don’t cost very much.W: Good idea. I’ve read the normal flow of a shower is 20liters per minute. By cutting down that on half, one would only consume 16 liters for a shower. If we turn off the water when brushing our teeth, that would help, too.M: Right. I wasn’t aware it could be that much.W: There are also new toilets that save a lot of water. But it isn’t necessary to change them right away.M: We don’t need to chang e them. By placing one or two bricksin the tank to take up some of the space, the amount of water flowing into the tank will be reduced.W: That sounds great!17. According to the man, what was last night’s news about?18. Which of the following is a suggestion made by the speaker?19. With the new shower head, how much water would a person use for a shower?20. What are the two speakers mainly talking about? That’s the end of listening comprehension.。

Next, we are very much focused on bringing existing woodland into management because it doesn't make any sense to plant new woodland if you can't manage what you've got already. Finally, we want to engage people a lot more in their natural environment that is implanting trees in managing areas. And in understanding more about the benefits that trees and woodlands bring to our society, Mr. Brown further outlined the reasons for the recently launched environmental project. He said our city wants to be a world class region. We have a lot of fantastic economic development going on, but the natural environment needs to keep up with that.He believes the project will reconnect people with trees and the natural world, provide benefits to health and reduce stress. 上海市新高考英语听力专练强化版全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1The New Gaokao is Looming – Bring on the English Listening Drills! As a high school senior in Shanghai, the new Gaokao university entrance exam is pretty much all anyone can think or talk about these days. My friends and I have been prepping like crazy, doing practice test after practice test. But if I'm being honest, the section that has me most stressed is the English listening portion. With the big exam just a couple months away, my English teachers have been drilling us hard on listening skills. We've been doing tons of practice exercises from this new "Shanghai New Gaokao English Listening Practice and Reinforcement Edition" book. I can't say I love it, but I have to admit it's helping boost my listening comprehension abilities. The book is pretty thick and packed with all kinds of different listening activities. In the beginning, it has some basics like listening to simple dialogues and conversations and answeringcomprehension questions. But it quickly ramps up to more challenging stuff like lectures, news broadcasts, and even movie clips and TV show excerpts. The variety has been good for building up different listening skills. One thing I've found really tough is understanding different accents and varieties of English. The book has listening samples from American English, British English, Australian English and more. At first, the different pronunciations and speech patterns really threw me for a loop. But repeated practice is helping me get more accustomed to comprehending diverse English speakers.Another challenge has been dealing with background noise, overlapping speech, and other audio distractions. A lot of the more advanced listening exercises incorporate those types of real-world sounds. It's crazy how much those factors can impact your ability to clearly understand what's being said. I'm having to concentrate incredibly hard to tune out the noise and chaos. Definitely gets my ears in shape for listening under tough conditions! To be honest, some of the listening material has been a bit dry – things like long-winded academic lectures or technical instructions. My interest and focus can sometimes drift. But thebook does try to incorporate higher interest subjects and topics too like clips from movies, TV shows, interviews and documentaries. Those tend to be a little more engaging than the scientific research presentation type of audio. One part of the book I've found really valuable are theskill-building sections. These cover strategies for things like predicting content, identifying key words, recognizing transitions and logical relationships between ideas. Having a toolbox of active listening techniques to apply has been a game-changer. Instead of just passively taking it all in, I'm now constantly thinking ahead, making connections, and staying engaged with the material. The book also has a ton of practice exercises that test your listening comprehension in multiple choice, short answer,fill-in-the-blank, and other formats. Doing hundreds of these leading up to the Gaokao is incredibly tedious. But I know all the repetition of listening to passages and responding to comprehension questions is imprinting those skills into my brain. My scores on the practice tests have definitely shown improvement. To be perfectly honest, there have been many times over the past few weeks where I've felt like throwing that huge Englishlistening book across the room in frustration. Drilling this skill over and over can feel like a monotonous slog. But I know it's crucially important for passing the English portion of the new Gaokao exam, which could dramatically impact my university prospects. So for as painful as it can sometimes be, I'm sticking with it. Every day, I diligently work through another set of listening exercises. I watch English movies, shows and videos. I put myself in environments with surrounding English chatter. I'm quite literally immersing my ears in an English audio environment as much as possible! It's tiring, but I know my listening abilities are rapidly improving. At this point, with the Gaokao just around the corner, I actually feel cautiously optimistic about the English listening test. No, it's still not my favorite thing in the world. But I'm starting to develop some confidence in my skills. Bring on those bizarre accents, background racket and fast-paced audio clips! Thanks to all those practice reps from that reinforcement book, I've got this.So to all my fellow Gaokao warriors out there, keep drilling those English listening skills! Put in the hard work now, and you'll be prepared to conquer that section of the exam. Then aftercelebrating our university admissions, we can all finally give our poor ears a well-deserved break!篇2The New Listening Section on the English Exam: A Student's StruggleAs students in Shanghai, we're all too familiar with the intense pressure that comes with the high school English exam. It's not just a test of our language skills; it's a gateway to our future academic and career paths. And this year, the stakes have been raised even higher with the introduction of the new listening section.I still remember the sinking feeling in my stomach when our English teacher announced the change. It was like someone had dropped a boulder on my chest. The listening section had always been my Achilles' heel, and now it was going to carry even more weight in determining our scores."This is a game-changer," our teacher declared, her eyes scanning the room, watching our reactions like a hawk. "The listening section is no longer just a warm-up. It's a critical component that could make or break your overall score."Cue the collective groan from the class. As if we didn't have enough to worry about with the reading, writing, and grammar sections, now we had to contend with the dreaded listening portion – a cruel test of our ability to comprehend rapid-fire English spoken in a dizzying array of accents and contexts. But our teacher was adamant. "This is a reflection of the real world," she insisted. "In today's globalized society, you'll be expected to understand English from all corners of the world, not just the textbook variety."And so, our descent into listening hell began. At first, it was a struggle just to keep up with the audio clips. The speakers seemed to be talking at warp speed, their words blending together in an incomprehensible blur. I found myself constantly rewinding and replaying the same clips, desperately trying to untangle the knot of sounds. Then there were the accents. Oh, the accents! From the guttural growls of Scottish English to the lilting melodies of Indian English, it felt like we were being thrown into a linguistic circus without a safety net."Did she say 'bear' or 'bare'?" I'd whisper to my classmate, my brow furrowed in concentration."I have no idea," they'd respond, equally lost in the accent maze. But our teacher was relentless. "Exposure is key," she'd remind us. "The more you listen, the more your ears will adapt."And so we soldiered on, our ears gradually becoming attuned to the nuances of different accents and speech patterns. It was like learning a whole new language within a language. As the weeks went by, I started to notice subtle improvements. Words that had once blended together were now distinct and clear. Accents that had once sounded like gibberish were now recognizable and even endearing. But just when I thought I had a handle on things, the exam threw us another curveball: the dreaded contextual questions."Listen carefully," our teacher would warn. "The answers aren't always explicitly stated. You'll have to read between the lines and make inferences based on the context."Cue another collective groan.Suddenly, it wasn't enough just to understand the words being spoken; we had to analyze the tone, the subtext, and the cultural nuances behind them. It was like trying to decipher some sort of linguistic code."Did she sound sarcastic when she said that, or was she being genuine?" I'd agonize, replaying the same clip over and over, searching for clues. But our teacher was adamant. "This is the real test of your listening comprehension," she'd say. "In the real world, communication isn't always straightforward. You need to be able to pick up on the subtleties and nuances."And so, we dove headfirst into the world of contextual listening, analyzing every inflection, every pause, every subtle shift in tone. It was like we were training to be linguistic detectives, hunting for the hidden meanings buried beneath the surface of the spoken word.As the exam date loomed closer, our practice sessions became increasingly intense. We'd spend hours dissecting audio clips, debating the finer points of intonation and inference, until our brains felt like they were going to explode."This is what separates the wheat from the chaff," our teacher would remind us, her voice taking on a almost maniacal edge. "Those who truly master the art of listening comprehension will be the ones who succeed."And in those moments, I couldn't help but wonder if she was taking a perverse pleasure in our collective suffering. But through it all, I persevered, driven by a determination to conquer this linguistic beast once and for all. I spent countless hours with my headphones on, immersing myself in English audio from every conceivable source – movies, podcasts, news broadcasts, you name it.And slowly but surely, I started to notice a shift. The words that had once sounded like gibberish were now clear and distinct. The accents that had once been impenetrable were now familiar and even comforting. It was like a veil had been lifted, and the true beauty of the English language was finally revealed to me in all its glorious complexity. As the exam day finally arrived, I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me. For the first time, I didn't dread the listening section; I embraced it as a chance to showcase all the hard work and perseverance I had poured into mastering this crucial skill. And as I sat there, headphones on, listening to the rapid-fire English flow through my ears, I realized that this was more than just a test of language proficiency. It was a test of resilience, ofadaptability, of our ability to navigate the complexities of a globalized world where communication knows no borders. So, to all my fellow students out there, struggling to conquer the listening section: take heart. Embrace the challenge, immerse yourself in the language, and never lose sight of the bigger picture. Because in the end, it's not just about acing a test; it's about developing the skills and mindset to thrive in a world where boundaries are constantly being redefined and the only constant is change. And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, by mastering the art of listening comprehension, we'll unlock the door to a future where cultural barriers are broken down, and true understanding becomes the norm, not the exception.篇3The New Gaokao English Listening: A Grueling Test of Ears and EnduranceAs students in Shanghai, we're no strangers to academic pressure and high-stakes exams. But let me tell you, the new English listening section of the Gaokao has taken things to a whole new level of intensity. It's like they've decided that simply testing our language skills wasn't challenging enough – now theywant to see if our ears can withstand a auditory onslaught that would make a drill sergeant proud.I still remember the first time I encountered one of the practice tests for this new format. I hit play, feeling confident after years of English classes and exposure to Western media. But within minutes, my smugness turned to panic as a rapid-fire barrage of dialogues, lectures, and news reports assaulted my eardrums. It was like someone had turned on a firehose of English and aimed it directly at my head. The worst part? There's no respite, no chance to catch your breath. You have to maintain a level of concentration that would make a Buddhist monk jealous, lest you miss a crucial detail and botch an entire set of questions. And let's not even talk about the time pressure – you'd have an easier time outrunning a cheetah than finishing some of those sections before the merciless countdown hits zero. But hey, at least the content is engaging and relevant to our lives as modern Chinese youth, right? Wrong! One minute you're listening to a mind-numbing dissertation on the mating habits of the Panamanian golden frog, and the next you're trying to decipher the intricate financial jargon of a report on mortgage-backed securities. It's like they've taken everypotential subject, no matter how obscure or dull, and crammed it into a sadistic auditory obstacle course. And just when you think you've got a handle on things, they throw in some cultural references or idioms that leave you scratching your head in confusion. Suddenly, you're questioning everything you thought you knew about the English language and wondering if you've been studying the wrong dialect this whole time. But we press on, fueled by a mixture of determination and sheer bloody-mindedness. Because at the end of the day, this is the Gaokao, and in Shanghai, that means it's do or die. We'll cram our heads with vocabulary lists, drill ourselves on listening strategies, and maybe even invest in some industrial-grade earplugs to prepare for the aural onslaught. And when the big day finally arrives, we'll march into that exam room with our heads held high, ready to face the auditory equivalent of running a marathon while solving differential equations. Because that's what it means to be a Shanghai student – we thrive on challenge, and we'll conquer any obstacle that stands in our way, no matter how intense or unconventional. So bring it on, new Gaokao English listening section. We may emerge from the experience with our eardrums ringing and ourconfidence shaken, but we'll also have earned a new level of respect for the intricacies of the English language and the endurance of the human spirit. After all, if we can survive this auditory gauntlet, we can handle anything the real world throws our way.。

That’s it.Q: How does the woman feel about discussing footbal1?Text 4M: Mary is not in the company. Has she returned from Xi’an yet?W: Yes. It takes only five minutes to drive there.M: If I had remembered to charge my car.Q: What can be learned about the man?Text 10W: You’ve been dealing with that budget report for nearly an hour. Anything wrong?M: I keep adding and reading the numbers, but they just don’t balance.Q: What is the man doing?Section BDirections: In Section B, you will hear two passages and one longer conversation. After each passage or conversation, you will be asked several questions. The passages and the conversation will be read twice, but the question will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. It’s common for you, nonfiction writers, to go forth into an area you know little about. You may worry that you are not qualified to bring the story back. I feel that anxiety every time I start a new project. I felt it when I went to Bradenton to write my baseball book Spring training. Although I’ve been a baseball fan all my life, I had never done any sports reporting, never interviewed a professional athlete. Any of the men I approached with a notebook could have asked. What else have you written about baseball? But nobody did. They didn’t ask, because I was sincere. It was obvious to those m en that I really wanted to know how they did their work. Remember this: When you enter a new area and need a shot of confidence, what matters is how you do it. Also remember that your assignment may not be as narrow as you think. Often it will turn out to touch some unexpected corner of your experience or your education, enabling you to broaden the story with strength of your own. Every such production of the unfamiliar will reduce your fear.Questions:11. According to the speaker, when may non-fiction writers feel worried?12. Why didn’t nobody in Bradenton care about what the speaker had written before?13. According to the speaker, how does non-fiction writers’ experience or education benefit them? Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following talkThe accepted definition of creativity is production of something original and useful, and it is commonly thought that creativity occurs on the right side of the brain, and the arts play an important role in enhancing it. But according to a new research, creativity isn’t about freedom from concrete facts.Rather, fact-finding is vital in the creative process. It’s the result of both sides of your brain working together. To understand this, we need to take a look at what leads to creativity. When you try to solve a problem, you begin by concentrating on obvious facts and familiar solutions to see if the answer lies there. This is done mostly by the left side. However, if the answer doesn’t come, the right and left sides of the brain activate together. The right side scans remote memories that could be vaguely relevant.A wide range of distant information that is normally ignored becomes available to the left side. Then the left side catches whatever connection it may have with the problem. And quickly locks in on it before it escapes. With extremely focused attention, the brain quickly pulls together these pieces of thought and combines them into a new single idea, as the brain recognizes the originality of what it has come up with.a sense of pleasure will arise.Questions14. What do people commonly think of creativity?15. According to the passage, how does the left side of the brain contribute to creative process?16. What is the passage mainly about?Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.W: Hello. Peter. I heard you worked in a remote village last month?M: Yes, as a volunteer, teaching in a primary school in southeastern China.W: A good choice for the summer vacation.M: For me, it’s not only a choice, but a responsibility.W: You’re right. What can a volunteer generally do?M: Many things, like creating a change in the surroundings, providing shelter and food to the needy ones. W: So you mean volunteering is not just donating cash or things.M: Right! We prefer to call that charityW: How did you come up with the idea of volunteering?M: It was my father. He used to supervise a volunteer program in a non-profit art gallery.W. Was it a full-time job for him?M: No, in fact, a part-time job. He went to the gallery nearly every weekend.W: Wow, this requires great passion.M: Sure. The best way to volunteer is to get involved in activities we are passionate about.W: Have you had any difficulties as a volunteer?M: Definitely! Lack of respect, acknowledgement, and lack of funds now and then.W: Oh, my! Many obstacles!M: So the most important spirit is perseverance.W: I’d like to join you someday.M: Any time.Questions17. What are the two speakers mainly talking about?18. What volunteer service did the man’s father do?19. What does the man think is the best way to volunteer?20.
