First listen and then answer the question.

I used to travel by air a great deal when I was a boy. My parents used to live in South America and I used to fly there fromEurope in the holidays. A flight attendant would take charge of me and I never had an unpleasant experience. I am used totraveling by air and only on one occasion have I ever felt frightened. After taking off, we were flying low over the city andslowly gaining height, when the plane suddenly turned round and flew back to the airport. While we were waiting to land, aflight attendant told us to keep calm and to get off the plane quietly as soon as it had touched down. Everybody on board wasworried and we were curious to find out what had happened. Later we learnt that there was a very important person on board. The police had been told that a bomb had been planted on the plane. After we had landed, the plane was searchedthoroughly. Fortunately, nothing was found and five hours later we were able to take off again.

1. I used to travel by air a great deal when I was a boy.
①used to +do 表⽰过去常常做某事,⽽be used to +doing 则表⽰习惯做某事。
③a great deal 表⽰很多,⼤量。如果修饰名词则为a great deal of+n,这⾥名词则为不可数名词。
You have spent a great deal of time and effort on this project, I believe you will succeed.
When I studied in the library, She called me.
2. take charge of 照管,负责,担任
in charge of 管理,负责照料 in the charge of 由……照顾
Don't worry, I will take charge of the baby when you are away.

After her made the statement, we knew how the accident happened.
4. While we were waiting to land, a flight attendant told us to keep calm and to get off the plane quietly as soon as it hadtouched down.
②keep calm →keep+adj.
③as soon as ⼀…… As soon as I came in the room, the door bell rang.
I will call you as soon as I arrives in Beijing.

Though in those days, traveling was not as easyas it is today, steam boats carried thousands of visitors across the Channel from Europe.
