A(2016·北京海淀模拟) Twelve years ago,I arrived in Central Florida from Puerto Rico.I had heard of a job opportunity and decided to pursue it.But it never became a reality.I quickly learned that being alone without resources in an unfamiliar city was not a comfortable situation to be in.Once my limited funds ran out I became homeless and spent a year and a half living on the streets of Orlando.Apart from feeling not being noticed and missing my family,I had to face another challenge—hunger. For the first time in my life,I,as a foreign man,who had lived my life in the relative comfort of the middle class, understood the desperation someone feels when they don't get enough to eat.I clearly remembered having run a distance of more than 7 miles on many occasions just to make it to a local feeding programme before they closed at 7 pm.Once the need for food was met,the next challenge would arise—where to find a place to sleep for the night.Fortunately, local programmes like the Coalition for the Homeless,Second Harvest Food Bank and the Wayne Densch Centre were an important part of my ability to survive my painful experience. With the assistance of these programmes,I was accepted by a college scholarship programme through the Coalition and obtained two degrees from Valencia. My experience has helped me understand that devoting my life to helping others offers lasting rewards.Today,I am employed as Childhood Hunger Programmes Manager at Second Harvest Food Bank and oversees the summer feeding,Hi-Five Kids Pack, and Kids Café programmes.I am also proud to be able to distribute (分配) food resources to those wonderful programmes and help hundreds more like me.【语篇解读】本文为记叙文,讲述了作者在陌生的地方的经历与感受。

Passage 27It's natural to greet friends with a smile and a wave. 1________ But what happens if your face and body send mixed messages? Would someone be more likely to believe the look on your face or the way you hold your body?Scientists have recently tackled these questions. They found that when a person is looking at your face, she might not believe what she sees of your body language doesn't match the feeling that your face shows. 2________ Previously, they had found that the tone of a person's voice can be more important than the words that are spoken. For example, most people tend not to believe a person who says in a flat voice, “I'm so excited. ”When it came to emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies(with faces blurred out)that showed anger or fear. 3 __________An angry face had low eye-brows and tight lips. A scared face had high eyebrow and a slightly open mouth. 4________A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square, as if ready to defend. These results told the researchers that mixed signals can confuse people. Even when people pay attention to the face, body language subtly influences which emotion they read.5_________And if you want to be understood, it helps to avoid sending mixed messages.A. Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists.B. So, your body language is important for telling people how you feel.C. To be successful, people often have to learn new skills. Yet, some people saythat you can never teach an old dog new tricks. They believe that older people do not like to learn new things and will not change the way they do things.4________People who are unkind or uncaring can be described as meaner than a junkyard dog. However, some-times a person who appears to be mean and threatening is really not so bad.We say his bark is worse than his bite.Dog expressions are also used to describe the weather. Under current UK law, food packages do not have to distinguish between natural and artificial flavoring.
段落的构成模式通常为:主题句(the topic sentence)+ 若干拓展句(developing sentences) + 结论句(the concluding sentence)。
All the people on our block give us trouble. Mrs. Brown calls the police whenever we go to play ball on the street. Mrs. Johnson complains that skateboarding makes too much noise. If we happen to stray into Mr.Hardy's yard, he yells at us.上面这个语段中,后面三句是平列关系,共同说明“社区所有人都给我们带来麻烦”这一主题。

[1] Electronic devices(装置)are changing the way people listen to music. But studies show the devices may be causing hearing loss in many people. Some experts say people may be playing them too loud and for too long. And experts say sound levels on these devices need to be set lower.[2] Researchers did a study with three hundred high school students and one thousand adults. They were asked about their use of portable music devices. Forty percent of the students and adults said they set the sound levels high on their players. But students were two times more likely to play the music at a very loud volume. More than half of the students said they would not probably limit listening time.[3]The study found that more than half of the students and less than forty percent of the adults had at least one kind of hearing loss. Some reported difficulty hearing parts of a discussion between two people. Others said they had to raise the volume on a television or radio to hear it better. And, some experienced ringing in their ears or other noises.[4]Hearing experts say part of the problem is the listening equipment people are using. They say larger earphones that cover the whole ear are probably safer than smaller earphones that come with most music players. Hearing loss may not be obvious for years, however, once it happens, there is little chance of curing. About thirty millionAmericans have some hearing loss. One third of them lost their hearing as a result of loud noises.[5]The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is working with companies and government officials on setting rules for the use of portable music devices.
