Also I'm not going to ask you what words mean."The children sat stunned and silent. Was this a teacher talking? One girl, who had just come to us from a school where she had had a very hard time, looked at me steadily for a long time after I had finished. Then, still looking at me,she said slowly and seriously,"Mr.Holt,do you really mean that?"I said just as seriously,"I mean every word of it."During the spring she really astonished me.One day,she was reading at her desk. From a glimpse of the illustrations,I thought I knew what the book was.I said to myself,"It can't be,"and went to take a closer look. Sure enough, she was reading Moby Dick,in edition with woodcuts.I said,"Don't you find parts of it rather heavy going?"She answered,"Oh,sure, but I just skip over those parts and go on to the next good part."This is exactly what reading should be and in school so seldom is an exciting, joyous adventure.Find something, dive into it,take the good parts, skip the bad parts, get what you can out of it,go on to something else. How different is our mean-spirited,picky insistence that every child get every last little scrap of"understanding" that can be dug out of a book.16.According to the passage, children's fear and dislike of books may result fromA.reading little and thinking littleB.reading often and adventurouslyC.being made to read too muchD.being made to read aloud before others17.This teacher in the passage told his students to readA.for enjoymentB.for knowledgeC.for a larger vocabularyD.for higher scores in exams18.19.20.blank fromthesoto us. However every coin has two sides. When people try to make friends on line, they have to be very careful and cautious. Before meeting an on-line friend, they have to ensure that all the information concerning him or her is true.To solve the problems concerning making friends on line,I think, the government should take strong measures to punish those who cheat people on line.As for those Internet some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are4choices marked A,B,C and D.You are required to choose the ONE that best fits into the statement.Mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre.Passage1Questions11-15are based on the following passageWhile it's normal to feel lonely or isolated from time to time, too much loneliness can be unhealthy or even dangerous. The good news is,loneliness is a condition that can be fought against and overcome Here are things to do when you feel lonely.Take a walk.Walking has been proven to offer many great benefits both for the body and the mind.Any form of exercise would do it as well, but walking is better because it allows you to explore your town or the area around you in a way a car simply does not allow.Besides, you may discover something new!Talk to people.Through Facebook, email and QQ,people are more connected than ever before. The problem with all these kinds of communication tools is that they ignore the face-to-face element of socialization.Someone wondered,"I have6000friends on Facebook but I don't have one person to go out at night!"Try getting out and talking to your neighbors or even total strangers. This is a great way to keep away from loneliness. Is something making you lonely?Asking some questions can make you understand loneliness well and find the cure quickly. Are you with someone who makes you feel lonely? Are you in a new town? What's making you unhappy? In some cases, people feel lonely because something is missing. In others, people feel lonely because something needs adjusting. This can be hard to identify, because we always try to hold on to the things that we believe make us happy. If all else fails, seek help.If nothing seems to be helping,it's time to see a doctor.Depression frequently affects people's health, and persistent loneliness is a key indicator. It is possible that medication may be helpful, depending on the type and severity of loneliness you have.It takes a lot more courage to ask for help than it does to pretend everything is fine.11.What's the purpose of this passage?A.To describe lonelinessB.To tell readers some forms of exercise.C.To offer advice to keep away from lonelinessD.To make people aware of the danger of loneliness.12.Among exercise, walking is better because_________.A.It can relax your body and mindB.It can make you enjoy a more splendid viewC.It can lead you to know more peopleD.It can offer you a chance to know the area well13.According to the third paragraph, the effective way of getting rid of loneliness is______.A.to make oneself busyB.to talk on the InternetC.to have face-to-face communicationD.to write email14.Why do we need to see a doctor for our loneliness?A.Doctors are most helpful to treat lonelinessB.It takes less time to keep away from lonelinessC.It takes a lot more courage to ask a doctor for helpD.Loneliness is likely to be connected with our physical condition.15.Which of the following is true according to the passage?A.Feeling lonely is similar to being alone.B.The causes of our loneliness are easy to find.C.It is necessary to talk with strangers to fight against loneliness.D.Any exercise can be good for your health.Passage2Questions16-20are based on the following passageThe oddness of life in space never quite goes away. Here are some examples.First consider something as simple as sleep. Its position presents its own challenges. The main question is whether you want your arms inside or outside the sleeping bag.If you leave your arms out, they float free in zero gravity, often giving a sleeping astronaut the look of a funny ballet()dancer."I'm an inside guy."Mike Hopkins says, who returned from a six-month tour on the International Space Station."I like to be wrapped up."On the station, the ordinary becomes strange. The exercise bike for the American astronauts has no handlebars. It also has no seat. With no gravity,it's just very easy to pedal violently. You can watch a movie while you pedal by floating a microcomputer anywhere you want. But station residents have to be careful about staying in one place too long.Without gravity to help circulate air,the carbon dioxide you exhale()has a tendency to form an invisible()cloud around your head. You can end up with what astronauts call a carbon-dioxide headache.Leroy Chiao,54,an American retired astronaut after four flights, describes what happens even before you float out of your seat."Your inner ear thinks you're falling.Meanwhile, your eyes are telling you that you're standing straight. That can be annoying--that's why some people feel sick."Within a couple of days--truly terrible days for some--astronauts'brains learn to ignore the panicky signals from the inner ear,and space sickness disappears.Space travel can be delightful but at the same time invisibly dangerous. For instance, astronauts lose bone mass. That's why exercise is considered so vital that National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA)puts it right on the workday schedule. The focus on fitness is as much about science and the future as it is about keeping any individual astronaut healthy.NASA is worried about two things:recovery time once astronauts return home, and, more importantly, how to maintain strength and fitness for the two and a half years or more that it would take to make a round-trip to Mars.16.What is the major challenge to astronaut sleep in space?A.Deciding on a proper sleep position.B.Choosing a comfortable sleeping bag.C.Seeking a way to fall asleep quickly.D.Finding a right time to go to sleep.17.The astronauts will suffer from a carbon-dioxide headache when______A.they circle around on their bikes.B.they use microcomputers without a stop.C.they exercise in one place for a long time.D.their watch a movie while pedaling.18.Some astronauts feel sick on the station during the first few days because______A.their senses stop working.B.they have to stand up straight.C.they float out of their seats unexpectedlyD.their brains receive contradictory messages.19.One of NASA's major concerns about astronauts is_______IfIV.Cloze(20points)Directions:There are10blanks in the following passage. For each blank there are4choices marked A,B,C and D.You are required to choose the ONE that best fits into the

It was a cheap self-service place with long tables to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and chocolate on the table to keep a place and went to get a cup of coffee. When I came back with the coffee, there was someone in the next seat. It was still too early for me to have my evening meal, so I walked along the seafront (滨海马路) for about an hour until I began to feel hungry. By that time I was not far from a favorite restaurant of mine, where I often went to eat two or three times a week. I knew the owner well and frequently complimented (赞美, 恭维) him on hisexcellent cooking.I went into the restaurant, which was already crowded, and ordered my meal. While I was waiting for the soup to arrive, I looked around to see if I knew anyone in the restaurant. It was then that I noticed that a man sitting at a corner table near the door kept glancing in my direction, as if he knew me, I certainly did not know him, for I never forgot a face. The man had a newspaper open in front of him, which he was pretending to read, though all the while I could see that he was keeping an eye on me. When the waiter brought my soup, the man was clearly puzzled by the familiar way in which the waiter and I addressed each other. He became even more puzzled as time went on and it grew more and more obvious that I was well known in the restaurant. Eventually he got up and went into the kitchen. After a few minutes he came out again, paid his bill and left without another glance in my direction. When I had finished and was about to pay my bill, I called the owner of the restaurant over and asked him what the man had wanted. The owner was a little embarrassed by my question and at first did not want to tell me. I insisted. “Well,” he said, “that man was a detective.” “Really?” I said, considerably surprised. “He followed you here because he thought you were a man he was looking for,” the owner of the restaurant said. “When he came into the kitchen, he showed me a photograph of the wanted man. 2016年河北专接本考试《英语》真题(总分100, 考试时间90分钟)2. Reading Comprehension1. You feel sad:" I skip my breakfast and supper. I run every morning and evening. What else can I do?" Basically you can do nothing. Your genes, not your life habits, determine your weight and your body constantly tries to maintain it. How can obese(肥胖的) people become normal or even thin through dieting? Well, dieting can be effective, but the health costs are tremendous. Charles Steinmetz, a research physician at Duke University, did a studyof ten fat people. They were given liquid formula providing 600 calories a day. After more than 12 weeks, the subjects lost 45 kg on average. But after leaving the hospital, they all regained weight. The results were surprising: by metabolic (新陈代谢的) measurement, fat people who lost large amounts of weight seemed like they were starving. They dreamed of foodor breaking their diet. They were anxious and depressed; some were suicidal. They hid foodin their rooms. Researchers warn that it is possible that weight reduction doesn't resultin normal wight, but inan abnormal state resembling that of starved non - obese people. Thin people, however, suffer from the opposite: they have to make a great effort to gain weight. William Simmons,of Washington State University, got prisoners to volunteer to gain weight. In four to six months, they eat as much as they could. They succeeded in increasing their weight by 20 to25 percent. But months after the study ended they were back to normal weight and stayed there. This does not mean that people are completely without hope in controlling their weight. It means that those who tend to be fat will have to constantly battle their genetic inheritanceif they want to significantly lower their weight. The findings also provide evidence for something scientists thought was true—each person has a comfortable wight range (范围) . The range might be as much as 9 kg. Someone might weigh 60 - 89 kg without too much effort. But going above or below the natural weight range is difficult. They body resists by feeling hungry or fulland changine the metabolism to push the weight back to the range it seeks.1. What determines your weight according to the first paragraph?A Your working manner.B Your eating habit.C Your life style.D You genes.该问题分值: 2答案:D解析:根据文章第一段的最后一句可知答案选D。

The reason which came to the mind first is that government is lack of the effective supervision to the polluters. Another thing that deserves our special attention is that there are a lot of automobiles crowding into the streets, which is the cause of the air pollution. To change this situation, I think we should take the following measures. The measure which came to the mind first is that, industries that release wastes without permission should be heavily fined. The second measure which is equally important is that vehicle restrictions should be worked out to improve air quality. To my point of view, one world, one home, the protection of the environment is everyone's responsibility. If everyone is willing to contribute himself to the protection of environment, it is reasonable for us to believe that the situation of pollution will be improved in the near future.河北省2017 年普通高校专科接本科教育选拔考试《英语》试卷答案1-5 CBADB 11-15DADBC 21-25NJMFD 31-35CABCA 例文:6-10 GEAFC16-20BADCC26-30BILGC36-40CDADBTo Learn or to PracticeNowadays, doing part-time jobs could be found everywhere in our daily lives , and many students even neglect their own study. Therefore, it is controversial whether college students should spend time learning or doing practical work. Some people hold that students had better take part in social activities, which can prepare them for their future work. In their opinion, through social practice students can learn what can't be learned in classes. Other people believe that students' main task is study. Social practice will waste too much time and energy. In my view, students can do some part-time work as long as it has no effect on their study. By doing some part-time jobs, they can enrich their life and put what they have learned in class into practice. More importantly, social practice is a good preparation for their future work.1-5 ADCBC 21-25 HODBM作文范文:6-10 BFAED26-30 FGENK16-20 DCACB36-40 DBCBAWith the development of technology and science, electronic books have been playing an increasingly important role in our daily life. More and more people are tending to read books or information by computer software or mobile phone software. It is because most of the electronic books are free and convenient to download. When one meets some questions, the first step he does may be to input the key words in the searching engine, then a lot of electronic materials will appear. Above all, most of them are free. It will just take a few minutes to download them and start to enjoy the knowledge, and find the right methods to address those questions. But some people reject the idea that electronic books should be used in large scale. They consider the electronic books as fast food, not so nutrient to human as traditional paper books do. Worse still, too much time in front of the computer can cause eyestrain or increase radiation risks. Whether electronic books will totally replace paper books one day still seems to be uncertain. However, no matter what kind of books will vanish, the habit of reading books should not be eliminated.11-15 CBDCA31-35 ACADD1-5 BCDAD6-10 DGAFB11-15 CABDA 16-20 BDADB 21-25 LNBIM 26-30 CFAJE31-35 ADBCA 36-40 CBCAD。

in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.You are required to choose the ONE that best fits into the statement.Mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.Passage OneYou hear this;"No wonder you are fat.All you ever do is eat."You feel sad."I skip my breakfast and supper.I run every morning and evening. What else can I do?"Basically you can do nothing.Your genes, not your life habits, determine your weight and your body constantly tries to maintain it.How can obese people become normal or even thin through dieting?Well, dieting can be effective, but the health costs are tremendous.Jules Hirsch,a research physician at Rockefeller University, did a study of eight fat people. They were given a liquid formula providing 600calories a day. After more than 10weeks,the subjects lost 45kg on average. But after leaving the hospital, they all regained. The results were surprising;by metabolic measurement, fat people who lost large amounts of weight seemed like they were starving. They had psychiatric problems. They dreamed of food or breaking their diet. They were anxious and depressed;some were suicidal. They hid food in their rooms.Researchers warn that it is possible that weight reduction doesn't result in normal weight, but in an abnormal state resembling that of starved non-obese people.Thin people, however, suffer from the opposite:They have to make a great effort to gain weight.Ethan Sims,of the University of Vermont, got prisoners to volunteer to gain weight. In four to six months, they ate as much as they could. They succeeded in increasing their weight by 20to 25percent.But months after the study ended, they were back to normal weight and stayed there. This did not mean that people are completely without hope in controlling their weight. It means that those who tend to be fat will have to constantly battle their genetic inheritance if they want to significantly lower their weight. The findings also provide evidence for something scientists thought was true-each person has a comfortable weight range3.The range might be as much as 9kg.Someone might weigh 60-69kg without too much effort. But going above or below the natural weight range is difficult. The body resists by feeling hungry or full and changing the metabolism to push the weight back to the range it seeks.11.What determines your weight according to the first paragraph?A)Your working manner.B)Your eating habit.C)Your life style.D)Your genes.12.What did believe the glare from snow causes snow blindness.Yet,dark glasses or not, they findthemselves suffering from headaches and watering eyes, and even snow blindness, when exposed to several hours of "snow light".The United States Army has now determined that glare from snow does not cause snow blindness in troops in a snow-covered country.Rather,A man's eyes frequently find nothing to focus on in a broad expanse of barren snow-covered terrain. So his gaze continually shifts and jumps back and forth over the entire landscape in search of something to look at.Finding nothing, hour after hour, the eyes never stop searching and eyeballs become sore and the eye muscles ache.Nature offsets this irritation by producing more and more fluid which covers the eyeball. The fluid covers the eyeball in increasing quantity until vision blurs, and then is obscured, and the result is total, even though temporary, snow blindness.Experiments led the Army to a simple method of overcoming this problem.Scouts ahead of a main body of troops are trained to shake snow from evergreen bushes, creating a dotted line as they cross completelysnow-covered landscape.Even the scouts themselves throw lightweight, dark colored objects ahead on which they too can focus. The men following can then see something.Their gaze is arrested.Their eyes focus on a bush and have something to see,Stop scouring the snow-blanketed landscape.By focusing their attention on one object at a time, the men can cross the snow without becoming hopelessly snow blind or lost.In this way the problem of crossing a solid white terrain is overcome.16.To prevent headaches, watering eyes and blindness caused by the glare from snow, dark glasses are_____.A)indispensable B)useful C)ineffective D)available17.When the eyes ache, tears are produced to ________.A)clear the visionB)remedy snow blindness C)ease the irritation D)loosen the muscles18.Snow blindness may be avoided by_______.A)concentrating to the solid white terrainB)searching for something to look at in snow-covered terrain C)providing the eyes with something to focus on D)covering the eyeballs with fluid19.The scouts shake snow from evergreen bushes in
