Unit 1 Advertisement
I. Pre-listening Tasks
Step 1 Match the commercial slogans to the pictures on Section A (P1) and answer
the questions.
1. Do you buy products because of advertising?
2. Why do you buy one product instead of another?
Reference answers:
good quality; proper price; recommended by friends; advertisement...
Step 2 Listen and fill in the blanks with the missing words on Section B (P1).
II.Listening Task
Step 1 Viewing, Listening and Speaking
1. Words and phrases to know
1) commercial: a commercial advertisement
2) billboard: a large board displaying advertisement
3) version: a related but different copy
4) have a winner on one’s hands: to be sure of success
2. Listen to Conversation 1 and finish the exercises.
1) Watch the video clip and choose the best answer to each question you hear.
2) Watch again and identify the main ides of the conversation by completing the
blanks.
3) Listen again and repeat it sentence by sentence, and then role-play it in pair.
After the practice, change roles.
3. Listen to Conversation 2 and finish the exercises.
1) Watch the video clip and mark the statements you hear T(true) or F(false).
2) Watch again and complete the table with the information you hear.
4. Use the substitution expressions to replace the similar expressions you’ve heard
in the conversations.
