V. 在以前的节目中，我们介绍过一个英语谚语Health is more important than wealth.

V. 谈到体育运动，这在与朋友们的聊天交谈中也是一个常见的话题。
A. 不过，体育运动种类繁多，有些专业性又非常强，该从何入手呢？
V. 我们不妨从一些具有共性的内容入手，例如：许多运动项目都分单项和团体项目两种，单项就是individual event，团体项目就是team event。
A. 还有许多比赛都有男女单打和男女双打，男女单打分别是men’s singles和women’s singles，男女双打分别是men’s doubles和women’s doubles。
V. 此外还有混合双打，英语是mixed doubles。
A. 很多比赛还分轮次，如第一轮、第二轮，这轮次的英语是round，例如：move on to the next round就是“晋级下一轮”的意思。
V. 有些比赛还有预赛、四分之一决赛、半决赛和决赛，这几个词的英文分别是：预赛 (heats)、四分之一决赛(quarter-finals)、半决赛(semi-finals)、决赛(finals)。
A. 谈到比赛，肯定少不了输赢，赢得比赛是win the match，输了比赛是lose the match。
V. 如果说A队输给了B队，我们可以说Team A lost to Team B.，或者Team A was defeated by Team B。
A. 有输赢就有名次，英语中如何表示比赛中的名次呢？
V. 首先看看冠军、亚军和季军，英文分别是champion、runner-up和second runner-up。
A. 那他们所获得的金牌、银牌和铜牌就分别是gold medal、silver medal和bronze medal。
V. 英语中的“名列”和“名次”可以用单词place表示，如果将place用作动词，可以说He placed fifth in the men’s singles.
A. 他在男子单打中名列第五。
V. Place也可以用作名词，因此上面例句也可以说He finished in fifth place in men’s singles。
A. 有时候我们还听到“与谁并列”，这在英语中怎么表达？
V. 这时可以用动词tie（并列），例如：Mary tied for third with Linda in the tennis match.
A. 在网球比赛中Mary与Linda并列第三。
V. 通常在球类比赛中会出现比分，一般用介词to来表示，例如：一比二就是one to two。
A. 以此类推，三比零就是three to zero。
V. 没错，零分还可以用love表示，因此三比零还可以说three love。
A. 如果说两队打成平局、不分胜负呢？
V. 我们可以说The match ended in a draw.，这里的draw就是“平局”的意思，也可以用前面出现的tie，不过这里是名词，可以说：The match ended in a tie。
