刮痧电影英语观后感Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture.Xu datong is a video games designer in St. Louis. When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. But the most impressing scene to me is the ending.Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. Ithink the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never sueed, perhaps no Chinese people really could sueed.Great Culture difference between China and AmericaAfter I saw the film Guasha, I was astonished by the great different culture between China and America. In fact, we should find many interesting things in the conflict of these two nations. In Xu Datong’s family, his son Dennis is totally aepted the American culture. Datong and his wife knowAmerican rules and their way of thinking, but the stillkeep many Chinese habitats and Chinese thoughts. Datong’s father, however, is totally a Chinese. He didn’t know American rules at all even he is profound in China. We can see that after Dennis fight with the son of Datong’s boss, Datong hit Dennis. It’s totally a Chinese’s way. American don’t hit their child or theythink it’s a kind of mistreat. Obviously, this action became one the proof that Datong mistreated Dennis whenthey were in the court.John acknowledged that Datong used to hit Dennis. Hetold truth but Datong was crazy about John “betrayed” him. Here is another aspect. In Chinese’s mind, friends should always help him even tell lie for him, while Americans distinct friendship and justice clearly. They wouldn’t tell lie in the c ourt. After Datong lost, he vented his angry on John and want to resign for hisself-respect. Because Chinese always treat “face” very important. Next the most interesting conflict appeared, Datong and John argued about why he hit Dennis. Datong said that he hit Dennis to show his respect to John, tosave his face. John confused and cried what kind of twisted Chinese logic! Maybe it’s the most different thing between Chinese and American which Americans would never realize.Another point is in the court, Datong called John to be his lawyer. John thought it’s not fortable because he is an interlecture property lawyer. He suggested Datong to find a qualified one. But Datong said John is his best friend and best lawyer, he should know how Datong love his son and John should surely help him. Here is one point. When somebody in the trouble, Chinese always find friends first whether he is professional or not. Friends would certainly help him. But Americans think that it’s better to find a stranger who can truly help him, rather than a good friend but can’t help him. Another point is after John told Datong he was not a family lawyer, but an interlecture property lawyer,。

刮痧观后感英文范文1Culture differences between east and west The film deduces the human world of affection, love, friendship and to social harmony is yearning, meanwhile, desire, because of the difference of culture and cause cross-cultural communication failures also show incisively and vividly.Chinese struggle to hold onto their American dream after the husband's father comes for a visit from mainland China and gives a simple Chinese Medicine therapy called Gua Sha to his grandson. Da Tong is the father who is trying to integrate his Chinese cultural beliefs into his daily American reality, especially when dealing with his boss and his best friend, who is too quick to believe the worst about Da Tong's treatment of his son, Dennis. Da Tong's failures show his confusion about the differences between his original Chinese culture and his new American home.Da Tong's love for his son is tested severely when Da Tong tries to balance it against respect for his boss. When Da Tong's son hits his boss' son, Da Tong insists on an apology that seems unnecessary and makes Da Tong look stubborn and uncaring. Da Tong gives his boy a light rap on the head when he refuses to apologize and the boy cries to his mother that the reason he hit his playmate was that the other boy called Da Tong stupid, one ofmany examples of doing the wrong thing to protect his family.Gua Sha is a treatment in traditional oriental medicine in which a wooden board repeatedly slides across the patient's acupuncture/acupressure/massage points. It works in similar principles like that of acupuncture/acupressure/massage. It is a kind of traditional treatment. But in American it becomes a form of abuse means. The scrapping of the performance of the Chinese people and American people's differences, not only in Sino American laws and moral standards, etc, and conceptions, even touch legal theory, theory of TCM and so on many issues. Reason is that the differences between Chinese and western culture cognition, westerners pay attention to speculative, rational analysis and empirical analysis the synthetically whole again. In the western philosopher opinion, only speculative things is the most real, the most perfect, the best. However in China the traditional way of thinking is not through inductive reasoning, the interpretation of the deduction, but based on facts. With the existing experience and knowledge of the nature of the objective things, and its regularity, and understand the whole recognized and judgment. When the foreign culture could not join in the mainstream culture, it is the additional kind, it is out and it is not accept easily. At last D a tong’s friends through the practice confirmed the word medical feasibility of gua sha and provide the facts. At the same time, it meets the western legal society for the requirements of the evidence. Actually it is a connection of the cultural differences between bridge sections on the transition of the angel, communicates each other, and connects the world.Intercultural communication is the most essentialrequirements to know each other cultural characteristics. Find the correspondence of cultural differences, from the point of mutual understanding, mutual penetration, and eventual communication will become simple.刮痧观后感英文范文2zheng xiaolong’s films "guasha",in 20xx, starring by liang jiahui and jiang wenli, in the United States as the background environment, Chinese medicine therapy "gua sha" as the clue, shows the differences between Chinese and western culture or contradiction, throughout the entire film, that was thinking...about the culture, The differences of medicine is too difficult for westerners to understand China-guasha-healing.In court, xu datong said the Chinese medicine, lawyers and judges are blankly. In fact, let alone westerners, is Chinese, even if the doctor of traditional Chinese can't good understanding of traditional Chinese medicine theory of Yin and Yang, five elements, main and collateral channels, and when the foreigners? In fact the film also can make us ponder over what on earth are way out of traditional Chinese medicine?Because of the traditional Chinese medicine a long time, and remember much more special, understanding is also very important, in today's quick buck, want to have decay of traditional Chinese medicine again rejuvenated and word of mouth, won widespread recognition in the world, in particular, is especially difficult and significant!About friendship, In our life, we will because others with their own relation and more or less convenient. But the boss and friend of xu datong is not so, when he thought that xu datong child abuse, no longer to help defend it.This is an attitude to things not people. He learned from Xu Fu that scrapping is a kind oftraditional Chinese medicine therapy, to prove all the way to China, for xu datong a reunited and complete a lot of effort. This friendship is enough to cherish?About education, When it comes to education, cannot leave the deep-rooted traditional culture concept. For xu datong in the opening ceremony, held a small Dennis and the boss's son had a dry, xu datong wanted him to apologize to the boss's son, Dennis did not accept it, so the small Dennis beat.In the later, xu datong with the boss said, this is for his face, but his boss feel difficult to understand.About the temper, Court, the children's rights protection center's lawyer, in order to win the lawsuit, any distortions in the classics "journey to the west" of the essence of the Monkey King finally angered the xu datong let this matter to the litigation. Here, refer to a net friend's words is that China's fiery calm trap just fell into the United States.Court, the children's rights protection center's lawyer, in order to win the lawsuit, any distortions in the classics "journey to the west" of the essence of the Monkey King finally angered the xu datong let this matter to the litigation. Here, refer to a net friend's words is that China's fiery calm trap just fell into the United States. Here, see xu datong enraged, almost lost his head, our audience will deeply sympathy, and hatred for the lawyer. In real life, anger often useless, it will only make things worse.Anger is a double-edged sword, let love his own people were injured, also let oneself injured; Is to let QinZhe pain, west coast avengers fast.Maybe, a person only good control his anger, very sensible about what has happened, is a real mature attitude.。
《刮痧》观后感(英汉对照版)1100字《刮痧》观后感(Gua Sha)As a viewer, I recently watched the powerful andthought-provoking documentary “Gua Sha” and feel moved to share my thoughts and reflections on this film.
The documentary features the lives of several elderly Chinese citizens who reside in the only nursing home in Zhuhai. This serves as a window into the social problem of aging in China where many people entrust their parents to nursing homes. The film conveys the numerous obstacles and frustrations that these elderly citizens encounter on their aging journey. The storyline of the film is natural, full of human emotion and very touching.在这个纪录片中,观看者能够感受到中国传统文化的独特之处。
其特点在于趋向可持续发展的方法,有效结合了人与自然的关系。
另外也看到了中国传统医学的应用。
电影刮痧的观后感200字英文版After watching the movie "Gua Sha," I was struck by the powerful message it conveyed about traditional Chinese medicine and the healing power of human connection. The film follows the story of a young woman named Lin who is struggling with chronic pain and emotional trauma. Desperate for relief, she turns to a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who practices Gua Sha, a form of therapy that involves scraping the skin to promote blood flow and healing. At first skeptical, Lin gradually begins to experience the benefits of this ancient practice and finds solace in the compassionate care of her therapist. What struck me most about the film was the way it portrayed the importance of human connection in the healing process. Through the gentle touch of her therapist and the emotional support of her fellow patients, Lin is able to confront her pain and begin the journey towards healing. The film beautifully captures the transformative power of empathy and understanding, reminding us that true healing often comes from connecting with others on a deep and emotional level.Overall, "Gua Sha" is a poignant and thought-provoking film that highlights the ways in which traditional healing practices can provide both physical and emotional relief. It serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking out alternative forms of therapy and the power of human connection in overcoming pain and suffering.。

In America , people pay more attention to the right of children which can be seen from the law-beating children or leave them alone is illegal , but a Chinese old proverb says “ Spare the rod , spoil the child” .Another scene which makes me deliberate is that the lawyer vilifies Sun Wukong in A Journey to the West as a symbol of barbarism and violence in the court ,then Datong is enraged and then rushes to fight the lawyer . John confused and cried what kind of twisted Chinese logic! Maybe it’s the most different thing between Chinese and American which Americans would never realize.Another point is in the court, Datong called John to be his lawyer. John thought it’s not comfortable because he is an interlecture property lawyer. He suggested Datong to find a qualified one. But Datong said John is his best friend and best lawyer, he should know how Datong love his son and John should surely help him. Here is one point. When somebody in the trouble, Chinese always find friends first whether he is professional or not. Friends would certainly he lp him. But Americans think that it’s better to find a stranger who can truly help him, rather than a good friend but can’t help him. Another point is after John told Datong he was not a family lawyer, but an interlecture property lawyer, Datong said that Dennis was his best creation, so it’s in John’s field. Actually, many Chinese hold the thought that child is parents’ property. They created their children and give birth to their children, so they can do everything to him, even hit them. However, Americans do not think so. From their perspective, children are equal to adults. They are not parents’ property. So they would never say the same thing as Datong. There are countless aspects show the difference between Chinese and American, such as logic, habitat, the way of thinking and act. We can see a lot of typical examples in Guasha. As a English major, I should learn more about intercultural communication between Chinese and American. Acceptance of their logic is a important way to learn English.。

Da Tong's failures show his confusion about the differences between his original Chinese culture and his new American home. Even within his family there is conflict because Grandfather can't speak English and is excluded from many conversations because Mother(Wenli Jiang)wants only English spoken in her home for the benefit of her American born son. Da T ong and his wife are very well educated and understand that their child's best chances for succein America, and for him not to experience the same troubles they've had during the past 8 years, are to speak without an accent. They even go so far as to insist the boy use a fork and knife instead of chopsticks, even when it's obvious they are still eating Chinese style food, served in the normal way: communal dishes for the food and smaller, individual rice bowls for each person. Mother seems a bit inflexible in her insistence on being as American as possible, while Da Tong's cultural leanings are just as strongly Chinese, although not by conscious choice.Da Tong's love for his son is tested severely when Da Tong tries to balance it against respect for his boss. When Da Tong's son hits his boss' son, Da Tong insists on an apology that seems unnecessary and makes Da Tong look stubborn and uncaring. Da Tong gives his boy a light rap on the head when he refuses to apologize and the boy cries to his mother that the reason he hit his playmate was that the other boy called Da Tong stupid, one of many examples of doing the wrong thing to protect your family. The conflict arising from doing the wrong thing out of loveor respect for one's family or closest friends continues throughout the movie, and every way Da Tong turns, he finds failure and encounters both obvious and subtle forms of anti-Chinese racism.Even Chinese folklore about the Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong, that Da Tong incorporates into a video game he designed is used to provoke his pride when he's vulnerable and fearing for the loof his son. Da Tong is misunderstood by everyone, family, friend, and foe, even though he has only the best intentions, and he carries the responsibility quite heavily, ma-ki-ng one wrong turn after another.Gua Sha (Motivational model ) shows how a person's cultural beliefs are so deeply set within oneself that it is usually impossible to examine why you do most anything, from how you dreand talk to whom you love and respect and how you show it. The invisible nature of one's cultural beliefs also makes it difficult to impossible to explain yourself to others when questioned. Da Tong experiences an excruciatingly painful and difficult struggle while trying to protect his son, an ordeal that forces him to examine the validity of some of the most vital things he thought he knew about his identity, his Chinese culture, and the new American world he'd chosen as his home. The movie showed me how normal it is for people to look for ways that their culture is superior to others' and how the misunderstandings arising from different cultural perspectives can seem very large, but can be nullified with si-mp-le, 2-sided explanations when people are willing to listen. It appears this film is not readily available in the USA, but it's the best I've seen at highlighting the differences between American and Chinese culture. Parts of the movie's dialog areonly in Chinese and I've yet to find a DVD with English subtitles, although it's easy to get the gist of what's going on during those short passages. The credits are a combination of Chinese and English, holding true to the integration of both worlds. I've noticed some important roles are not credited here on IMDb, such as Judge Horowitz, who was played by Alexander Barton. 刮痧电影英文观后感篇5Whe n I first saw this film’s name ,I considered it as a movie that told us something about Chinese traditional therapy treatment. Guasha电影《刮痧》感悟I was moved a lot after seeing the movie Guahsa. But putting away the moving plot,I think the film is trying to tell us someting about the misunderstandings and failures in crosscultural communication between Chinese and American people.Firstly, let's talk about Guasha. It is a popular folk treatment for certain illnesses by scraping the forehead, neck, and chest and back of the patient to cause congestion in the skin vessels to alleviate pain or inflammation in China. In this film, it re presented the traditional Chinese medical skills. But American doctor’s didn’t approve of it, because western medicine believes the experiments, they thought that Guasha Treatment wasn’t based on science. So, in the film, when the doctor found the bright red marks on the child’s back, they all considered that it was unacceptable. The next difference is the perception towards "mianzi". Xu was a Chinese immigrant in America, and he had been there for eight years. He had accepted many behaviors and views in American way, meanwhile, the traditional Chinese thoughts and values wre rooted in his mind deeply. In the film,Datong explained that he hit Denis because he wanted to give Mr.Quinlin “mianzi” while Mr.Quinlin thought that he shouldn’t hit Denis. But in American, people care more about facts rather than face. The third difference is Childhood Education. In China, it’s common for parents to hit the child if the child is naughty or do something wrong. They think that “I hit you because I love you” and they can tea ch and train their children according to their will.Chinese people take their children as part of their private property, the younger shouldn’t oppose to the older, because there’re strict ranks in the family. In America, children are independent and free. Parents need to educate them wisely and rationally rather than hit them. Certainly, parents should respect them and give their the rights to select their own futures. The fourth difference is the attitude towards friends. In the movie, Datong’s boss, and also his good friend, Mr.Quinlin, went to the court to be a witness to say something bad about Datong, Datong could not understand, he always treated Mr.Quinlin as a good friend, and he thought that Mr.Quinlin would help him, butthings turned out different ly. At last, he quit the job, because he didn’t want to work with someone who didn’t support him.But in American ,they tend to help their friends based on facts rather than affection.Lastly, I think "family love " between the two countries is quite different. American usually set up a series of laws and build up children"s welfare institution to protect our kids. But they seem to care less of the family love.It occur to me that when Datong's friend asked why Datong didn't tell the trueth that it was his father who did Guasha for little Daniel on the court, the Chinese woman said:''Because he is a Chinese!" Chinese awalys try their best to care and protect the olds and youngs and show greatest love for their family. Those are the main cultural conflicts in the movie. Therefore, we can say that the more we konw the differences in various culture, the better we could understand and respect people from different countries or backgrounds .。
Several weeks ago, we enjoyed the movie,“The Treatment”.This is a movie about the difference between Chinese and American cultures. The story happened in a Chinese immigrant [ ˈɪmɪgrənt ] family.Xu Datong and his wife, JianNing, son, Dennis, led a happy life in America. He also brought his father from china to live here together.Xu Datong was the father who has struggled for 8 years to assimilate into American culture, and as a video games designer he had a great success and got his boss's approval and friendship. His father performed GuaSha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his son, which left bright red marks on the skin and caused a lawsuit [ ˈlɔ:su:t ] of child abuse. In the c ourt, Datong lost his mind so that finally he lost custody [ ˈkʌstədi ] (n.监管拘留,羁押抚养权,监护权)of his son. However, the end is perfect. “GuaSha” was known by the American law. The family got together at last. The most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wanted to see his son in Christmas eve, he had to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lived.I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wanted to climb over the gap and he would never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed.。
《刮痧》观后感英文1600字As a viewer, I had the pleasure of watching the Chinese film "Guasha" or "Scraping" directed by Xu Zhanxiong. This film tells the story of a father and son who own a guasha clinic but struggle to keep it running due to financial difficulties and their estranged relationship. The father passes on his guasha skills to a young apprentice, who also becomes a vital character in the film. The film’s structure is simple but effective. It begins with a brief introduction of the characters and their daily lives, then the story continues to explore their circumstances and delves deeper into their relationships with one another. The climax of the story comes when the father is diagnosed with a serious illness. This event forces the father and son to confront their past and present issues as they attempt to salvage their relationship and the guasha clinic.I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of emotion and depth in each of the characters. As their stories unfolded, I found myself empathizing with each of them and was invested in their journeys. The film perfectly captured the complexities of family relationships and the importance of communication and understanding. The film also employs strong visual elements such as the beautiful scenery of rural China, the use of natural light, andwell-choreographed guasha scenes that are accompanied by soothing music. Every frame of the film is aesthetically pleasing, and it adds to the overall message of the film - the beauty of traditional Chinese healing practices and their importance in modern medicine. One of the most memorable moments of the movie was when the father said, "Guasha can cure more than just a cold or a fever." This resonated with me, and I felt that the film provided an opportunity to showcase the benefits of traditional medicine that are often overlooked. As I reflected on the film, I thought about my own relationship with my family and how a lack of communication and understanding can cause misunderstandings and rifts. It reminded me of the importance of taking the time to listen and communicate with each other. In conclusion, "Guasha" is a beautifully crafted film that captures the essence of traditional Chinese medicine, family relationships, and human connections. The excellent characters and music, coupled with the picturesque scenery, create an unforgettable cinematic experience. The film provides a reminder of the importance of preserving traditional practices in the rapidly changing world of modern medicine.。
刮痧优秀观后感英文版第一篇:刮痧影评英文版Last year, when I have the public elective curse,ur teacher intrduces a film t us which is his favrite ne--GuaSha.At that time,I was just angry at freigner’s ignrance and deeply mved fr Datng’s lve fr his sn.At this time,I watch this film again frm different pint f view--the intercultural cmmunicatin.Cultural differences are the mst imprtant pint in the intercultural cmmunicatin. At the beginning f this film,Datng with his family is attending his wn victry banquet, his sn Dennis hits his friend Paul,Paul’s parents think that’s k,it’s just a fight between tw kids.Hwever,Datng and his wife Jenny have different reactins twards that situatin.Jenny is a wman wh is deeply affec ted by western thughts, she desn’t blame his sn.At first,Datng asks his sn t aplgize t his friend Paul, but Dennis refuses t d that.S Datng is very angry because he thinks that he makes his friend lses his face.Hence,Datng strikes Dennis in his face.Everyne including his wife are shcked. The western parents regard it as family vilence, while Datng as a traditinal Chinese parent thinks that beating is a sign f affectin and cursing is a sign f lve. What he has dne is t teach his sn t shwrespect t ther peple.Frm there,we can see the cultural differences between western parents and Chinese parents in treating their children.Frm my perspective,I think Datng is a cntradictin. He grws upin China, but immigrates t western cuntry later.S Datng is familiar with Chinese culture, meanwhile he is affected by western culture. He usually treats his sn by traditinal Chinese ways, but smetime he treats his sn like a freigner parent.Fr example,he can share secrets with his sn and respect his pinins.S,that is why I say Datng is a cntradictin. The highlight f this film is abut the debate n the hearing andthat is the mst bvius part f cultural differences in the intercultural cmmunicatin. The defense lawyer f Child Welfare Agency has the evidence t charge him f abusing his sn,they find a nurse wh is respnsible fr Jenny’s parturitin. She says that Datng chse t save his wife nt the child when Jenny is in danger during parturitin, and he even desn’t give the child chance t live.hwever,Datng hlds different pinin abut that.He argues that if his wife live, they can always have mre kids, just as a Chinese famus saying ges where there's life there's hpe.S we canknw the different cncept between Chinese peple and freigners. In this film, there are tw big misunderstandings abut Chinese culture. One is abut Jurney t the West and anther ne is abut Guasha. The defense lawyer says that Sun Wukng is representative f vilence, while the truth is Sun Wukng is a gd and hnest her and represents ur traditinal values and ethics.Anther misunderstanding isabut Guasha.Guasha is a traditinal Chinese medicine cure withut medical evidence.Hwever s it has becme the direct evidence f abusing child. The cnflicts in this film is the cnflicts between tw ttally different cultures. And it deserves us t pnder ver.Frm this film,we shuld knw that if we want t get knwledge f intercultural cmmunicatin, the first step is t understand cultural differences.第二篇:刮痧影评英文版Actually,in the beginning ,I d nt reckn GuaSha wrth a written cmment just accrding t the literal meaning I’ve gt.But my views n this mvie have been dramatically changed after I finishing it.In this passage,I will rganize my cmments in three parts:1.the summary f this mvie.2.the differences between Chinese and English culture reflected in this mvie.clusin.Sectin1:GuaSha shapes a vivid image f a man whse name is DaTngxu. He is a man with a beautiful and virtuus wife .What’s mre ,he has a happy family.Hwever, everything has changed since an unexpected lawsuit came t him which is triggered by the Chinese traditinal medical treatment---GuaSha,which leads t the separatin between DaTng and his wife as well as his family. The plt then is expanded frm this wrd…Sectin2:There are s many differences in tw cultures reflected in this mvie.Firstly, the way peple think r treat abut sme rituals.Fr example ,during the party,DaTng insists that he hits his sn ut f the respect fr Jhn,while Jhn cnsiders it a rude behaviur twards Danis. And t sme extent,DaTng breaches the law.Secndly, frm the way they have dinner ,we can see their living styles are different frmurs. They use frks and knives ,but we use chpsticks. Then,in western cuntries, everything is judged accrding t prf. When they handle smething, they prefer t appeal t the law while Chinese are inclined t tackle these difficulties with their wneffrts.Next,fr lve ,DaTng is advised t tell the truth that itis his father wh des GuaSha treatment t Danis. But DaTng just keeps silent.Chinese emphasize filial affectin twards the senir. In cntrast ,westerners just want t seek the truth. At last, the cgnitin f genuine medical treatment is f difference.Traditinal Chinese medical treatment is assumed t be fake treatment in western cuntries.(Here are sme extracts frm the mvie:1.It’s nt a right thing t hit a child.Smetimes it may break the law.2.T hit smebdy means t lve smebdy.3.In China ,we use chpsticks, but here yu use frks.4.It is illegal fr parents t leave their children at hme alne.5.GuaSha is a traditinal Chinese medical treatment.6.There isn’t any written prf can prve GuaSha is a real treatment.7.Husband desn’t care abut his sn if he is absent when his sn is brn.8.T keep the mther alive is mre imprtant than the sn’s life.9.Hit his wn sn t shw the respect fr his bss.10.It’s necessary t tell the truth.11.Because he is a Chinese,he shuld be filial.12.Better early than late if yu will take the plane.)Cnclusin:In this mvie ,what strikes me mst is the lve that DaTng has twards his sn and his father.Abslutely,DaTng is a tugh and filial man.In rder t get his sn back,he ignres any punishments frm the law…Apparently,if there is any difference still existing amng different cultures, the pssibility f melting peple’s attitudes tgether is smewhat f difficulty.Maybe, clliding with ther cultures is just the apprpriate way fr cultures t assimilate int each ther.。
My Reaction to Gua Sha TreatmentWhen I was a freshman in college I watched the film Gua Sha Treatment for the first time, now I am a junior student and I come back to review the movie from a multicultural aspect, I have many different feelings after watching the film again. At the beginning of the film, XuDatong is given an award and later he delivers a speech。
What makes me impressed most is in his speech he says “one day I will become one of you, a truly successful American, today this award proved that America is a true land of opportunity and I am the living proof of that.” At that moment Xu thinks he has realized his American Dream totally with his lovingly wife and adorable son. However, I think it is ironical that to make a speech like that and I assume it is made on purpose to hind a clue for the story’s development. How many non —American people have such a beautiful American dream? One of my classmate studies in American now and before he went aboard he told me his American dream is he can stand at the top of the New York. To be honest, I also dream that one day I can get the Green Card living there happily and successfully maybe working at the Wall Street. When Xu gets the award he thinks he entirely melted in the melting pot neglecting the multicultural obstruct, later the plot goes against the way he thinks。

篇一:刮痧英语观后感Chinese immigrants struggle to hold onto their American dream after the husband's father (Xu Zhu) comes for a visit from mainland China and gives a si-mp-le Chinese Medicine therapy called Gua Sha to his grandson.Da Tong (Tony Leung Ka Fai) is the father who is trying to integrate his Chinese cultural beliefs into his daily American reality, especially when dealing with his bo(Hollis Huston) and best friend, who is too quick to believe the worst about Da Tong's treatment of his son, Dennis. Da Tong's failures show his confusion about the differences between his original Chinese culture and his new American home. Even within his family there is conflict because Grandfather can't speak English and is excluded from many conversations because Mother (Wenli Jiang) wants only English spoken in her home for the benefit of her American born son. Da Tong and his wife are very well educated and understand that their child's best chances for succein America, and for him not to experience the same troubles they've had during the past 8 years, are to speak without an accent. They even go so far as to insist the boy use a fork and knife instead of chopsticks, even when it's obvious they are still eating Chinese style food, served in the normal way: communal dishes for the food and smaller, individual rice bowls for each person. Mother seems a bit inflexible in her insistence on being as American aspossible, while Da Tong's cultural leanings are just as strongly Chinese, although not by conscious choice.Da Tong's love for his son is tested severely when Da Tong tries to balance it against respect for his boss. The conflict arising from doing the wrong thing out of love or respect for one's family or closest friends continues throughout the movie, and every way Da Tong turns, he finds failure and encounters both obvious and subtle forms of anti-Chinese racism. Even Chinese folklore about the Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong, that Da Tong incorporates into a video game he designed is used to provoke his pride when he's vulnerable and fearing for the loof his son. Da Tong is misunderstood by everyone, family, friend, and foe, even though he has only the best intentions, and he carries the responsibility quite heavily, ma-ki-ng one wrong turn after another.Gua Sha (The Treatment) shows how a person's cultural beliefs are so deeply set within oneself that it is usually impossible to examine why you do most anything, from how you dreand talk to whom you love and respect and how you show it. The invisible nature of one's cultural beliefs also makes it difficult to impossible to explain yourself to others when questioned. Da Tong experiences an excruciatingly painful and difficult struggle while trying to protect his son, an ordeal that forces him toexamine the validity of some of the most vital things he thought he knew about his identity, his Chinese culture, and the new American world he'd chosen as his home. Parts of the movie's dialog are only in Chinese and I've yet to find a DVD with English subtitles, although it's easy to get the gist of what's going on during those short passages. The credits are a combination of Chinese and English, holding true to the integration of both worlds. I've noticed some important roles are not credited here on IMDb, such as Judge Horowitz, who was played by Alexander Barton。
The differences between Chinese and western cultures---from the movie “Gua Sha”This term, I have taken an elective course on western culture and enjoy movies and airwaves, and watched many films, such as “Gua Sha”, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, “A Christmas Carol”,” Legally Blonde”, “The Proposal”,“Friends”,“Gone with the Wind”. But what impresses me most is the film “Gua Sha”, which English name is “The Treatment”.Gua Sha is a movie about the difference between Chinese and American culture. The story happens in a Chinese family who lives in American. It mainly related the hero Xu Datong, who is a Chinese, had struggled for 8 years, tried hard to assimilate into American culture, and he as a video games designer in St. Louis had a great success and got his boss's approval and friendship. He and his wife, Jian Ning, son, Dennis, led a happy life in America. He also brought his father from china to live here together. One day, Dennis was stomachache, the grandpa used the Chinese traditional therapy to help him to scrapping, named Gua Sha, which leaves bright red marks on the skin. And then, once Dennis had an accident and went to the hospital, the doctor saw that the scar on his back, he doubts if the children was abused at home, so he called the American children protection center, so it causes a lawsuit of child abuse. Thereby, this happy family happened a series of unfortunate. At the hearing, whatever Xu Datong explained to the judge and the plaintiff about Gua Sha, the Americans always misunderstood. The opposing lawyer distorted the Chinese classics” Xi You Ji”, and his boss point out he had hit his son on the victory meeting, these all made Datong angry very much, scolding on the spot. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son.Because of the cultural difference, the father faces misunderstanding in the eyes of American. Thus, it made Datong break up families, and later he resigned, lost his friend and job.Later his father found the truth, went to explain that was him to Gua Sha for Dennis, not Datong, to Datong’s first counsel for the defense, John, along, and decided to leave America. At the airport, the old man want to saw his grandson, so Datong went to the welfare- house secretly to bring Dennis to the airport to see his grandpa off. On their way back, the police found Datong took Dennis, Datong and Dennis played jokes with the followed up police cars……John went to Chinese personally to experience the Chinese traditional treatment--“Gua Sha”, and hurried back to America to tell the accuser and the judge about his experience in it, and ask them to annul Datong’s result of sentence. In the film’s last, Datong for the sake of seeing his son on Christmas Eve, he climbed up the pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives in Santa Claus dress. At last, John sent the judiciaries rescind durance in time. And Datong climbed into the house, stayed with his families together again. The end is perfect. “Gua Sha” is known by the American law. The family gets together at last. But the cultural difference between countries leaves us thought-provoking. In US, this is a story that repeats itself many times in the area where many oriental immigrants’ lives and all of these are due to simple misunderstanding between cultures. The fil m “Gua Sha” is based on a Chinese traditional treatment which is not well-known by most foreigners. Indeed, Gua Sha is a treatment in traditional oriental medicine, In Asia it is usually done with a coin, Chinese soup spoon, slice of water buffalo horn, or even a slice of ginger. It need repeatedly scrape some acupoint in the patient's skin to treat the patient’s illness. It’s very useful treatment for patient.Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between Chinese Culture and Western Culture. In American law, parents shouldn’t leave child alone and can’t ill-treat their own children. If they break this law, parent may be taken to the police station, or what’s worse, their children will be separated from them. However, the family in the film gets in this trouble. These laws are good for children’s growing-up, but the rules don’t work in China. In China, parents have duties to look after their kids, including beat them the moment children don’t obey their words. In American, it’s illegal, children are protected by laws. What’s more, the Americans don’t understand the Chinese traditional culture, often misinterpret, and even ignore it, so it results in many unfair for Chinese. The film has deep impression to me. I’m not only proud of the extensive and profound Chinese culture, but also moved for the Chinese original ethical concept. In the movie, it embodied that Datong was so filial to his father everywhere, for example, for father get a green card, he admitted that was him to Gua Sha for his son, asked his wife not to tell the thing about Dennis’s law case to the old man to avoid his worried…… And the heart between Datong and Jian Ning was very deep, though they quarreled many times for Dennis’s case. The husband’swohlwollen to his wife, he chose to separate to let his wife to stay with Dennis, and the wife’s care for the family, do the housework after work, look after the old and the young in the family……The most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son to climb a pipe to the ninth floor, despite his danger.Datong, the grandpa and Jian Ning, their love to Dennis, was deeply moved to everyone. The film reflects the kind to each other and loves each other in a traditional Chinese family, giving expression to the great of Chinese spirit.。
