Unit 22 Environmental Protection
Environmental problems
Environmental problems are
becoming more and more serious all
over the world. With the development
of industry and agriculture, cars
make great noises and give off
poisonous gas. Trees on the hills
have been cut down, and waste water
is being poured continuously into
rivers. Furthermore, wherever we go
today, we can find rubbish
carelessly disposed. The whole
ecological balance of the earth is
changing. Massive destruction of
environment has brought about
negative effects and even poses a
great threat to man's existence.
There are still many problems
of environmental protection in
recent years. One of the most
serious problems is the serious
pollution of air, water and soil.
The polluted air does great harm to
people’s health. The polluted
water causes diseases and death. What is more, vegetation has been
greatly reduced with the rapid
growth of modern cities.
To protect the environment,
governments of many countries have
done a lot. Legislative steps have
been introduced to control air
pollution, to protect the forest and
sea resources and to stop any
environmental pollution. Therefore,
governments are playing the most
important role in the environmental
protection today.
In my opinion, to protect
environment, the government must
take even more concrete measures.
Firstly, it should let people fully
realize the importance of
environmental protection through
education. Secondly, much more
efforts should be made to put the
population planning policy into
practice, because more people means
more pollution. Finally, those who
destroy the environment intentionally should be severely
punished. We should let them know
that destroying environment means
destroying mankind themselves.
As we all know, there is only one
earth. The environment must be
linked with social ethics,
character education and practice
acts Everyone must fulfil his
responsibilities and obligations to
protect the environment.
环境问题
全世界的环境问题正变得越来越严重。随着工农业的发展，汽车制造噪音、排放毒气。山上的树木被砍伐，污水不断被排入河里。另外，如今无论我们走到哪里，到处可见随意丢弃的垃圾。整个地球生态平衡正在改变。环境的巨大破坏已经带来了负面影响，甚至对人类生存造成巨大威胁。
目前环保还存在着许多问题。最严重的问题就是空气、水和土壤的严重污染。污染的空气对人类的健康十分有害。污染的水引起疼病，造成死亡。更有甚者，随着现代社会的迅速扩建，植被大大地减少。
为了保护环境，各国政府做了大量的工作。采用了立法措施控制大气污染，保护森林资源和海洋资源，制止任何环境污染。因此，在当今的环保中政府起着最重要的作用。
依我看来，为了保护环境，政府应当采取更具体的措施。首先，应当通过教育使人们充分认识到环境保护的重要性。第二，应更加努力地把计划生育政策付诸实施，因为人口多就意味着污染严重。最后，要严惩那些故意破坏环境者。应该使他们知道破坏环境就是毁灭人类自己。
众所周知，人类只有一个地球。环境要与社会公德、人格教育和实践行为联系起来。每个人都要履行保护环境的责任和义务。
The earth is our home and we have
the duty to take care of it for
ourselves and for our later
generations. Fortunately, more and
more people have realized these
problems. Measures have been taken
to cope with these problems by the
government. Laws have been passed to
stop pollution. I hope the problem
will be solved in the near future and
our home will become better and
better.
地球是我们的家园，我们有责任为我们自己和我们的后代去照顾好它。庆幸的是，越来越多的人们已经意识到这些问题。政府已经采取了很多措施去解决这些问题。法律已被通过以制止污染。我希望这些问题在不远的将来能得到解决，我们的家园变得越来越好。
