刻板印象的利弊英语作文

Stereotype mainly refers to a generalized and fixed view that people

form about a certain thing or object, and this view is extended to think

that this thing or the whole has this characteristic, while ignoring

individual differences. This is actually a common way of human

bining past cognition, people may summarize some

general characteristics, and in the future cognition, start from this general

characteristic before thinking and observing things. For example, people

may think that Jews are petty, blacks are wild,French are

romantic,Germans are law-abiding,Italians are warm,etc.In cross-cultural

communication, stereotypes refer to the classification of events, objects

and people without regard to personal characteristics and qualities.

First of all, stereotypes are often very contagious.Once formed, they

are deeply ingrained and will be applied to groups or individuals for a

long period of time.Affected by it,people are accustomed to some

inequalities.For example,for thousands of years,human beings have

constructed a male-centered knowledge system, viewed the world with

males as the center, and used male standards as the basic judgment

model. In this male-dominated society, women are mainly employed in

jobs that are regarded as"women's occupations",including patient

care,school education,catering services,secretarial,etc.These jobs are

often women's traditional roles as housewives and mothers social extension. This gender stereotype is still in play, and people don't think

it's a problem if they don't think about it.

Second,stereotypes influence how information is

processed,oversimplifying,generalizing,and exaggerating issues.When

people view others in a stereotyped way, they often simply categorize

people or things and give them different evaluations. For example, many

people take for granted that the Chinese are shy and humble, the

Americans are open and optimistic, the Germans are opinionated, the

French are romantic, the British are withdrawn and arrogant, and the

Japanese are dedicated and hardworking. These evaluations of

superiority and inferiority completely obliterate individual differences

and fall into the stereotype of generalization.

At the same time, stereotypes are more stubborn, trying to make the

truth match expectations. From a psychological point of view, stereotypes

bring about a mindset,a stereotype that is a schema for humans to

recognize others and others, and to explain their behavior based on

this.People's choice of information also tends to obtain information that

supports their own views, while intentionally or unintentionally rejecting

information that does not support their own views, resulting in the

effect, also known as self-fulfilling prophecy.Almost every ethnic group

and every social group is influenced by stereotypes to some extent. Finally, stereotypes can lead to prejudice."Prejudice is a casually

disparaging attitude towards all or some members of a group."Prejudice

often manifests itself in the form of unreasonable

disgust, suspicion, hatred, etc.Prejudice is far more powerful than

stereotypes.People with prejudice against others often distort facts and

mislead intercultural communication. It is often said that"Italians are

smart before,Germans are smart,and French are smart afterwards"is a

prejudice.In cross-cultural communication,prejudice often takes the form

of ethnocentrism.
