An Analysis of Obama’s Two Victory SpeechesAs the first black president in the history of the United States , Barack Obama achieved it for many reasons , such as the supports from his family , the partner --Joe Biden , the campaign team and volunteers , as well as he mentioned in his victory speeches . But , personally , Besides these reasons , his perfect speeches helped him a lot , let he made his voice heard , let he convinced his citizens , let he won the votes . Like a successful speech “Y es , We Can” he made in January 8 , 2008 , which made “Y es , We Can”become the mantra of his campaign and even a part of the global lexicon today , his two victory speeches bring most American the excitement , the feeling of blood boiled , and the infinite hope to reach the promising land . How can he do it ? Let us come to his two victory speeches and find the answer .It is said that well begun , half done , indeed , the manuscript he prepared before the speech did an excellent effort in the spot . First , what he did in analyzing the audience made it clear that his audience includes young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled , in a word , each kinds of people , and the size is too large to imagine . Finally , he gained a desired response from listeners by presenting himself and his ideas in the ways that connected with the audience’s goals , values , and beliefs . So , it is no wonder that the spot broke out the applause and cheers every time he mentioned such as “we are a people”,“we always will be the UnitedStates”,“change”,“patriotism”,“responsibility”,“democratic”,“self-reliance”,“individu al liberty” and “national unity”.Second , Obama succeed in getting the attention and interest of his audience at the beginning in both speeches , especially the one in 2008 , with establishing his credibility and taking the usual voting circumstances as examples and putting forward that it is everyone of you made this difference--the most American would like to hear that . Usually , his ending can also be soul-stirring by reinforcing the central idea and bringing people new hope . Besides , the body of his speech is strengthen . Pointing out the problem at present , coming up with what he will do to solve it is what the most political person would do in that situation , so did Obama . But what should notice is his supporting evidence , which made a strengthful power to convinced , that is the third point .Either in 2008 nor in 2012 of his speech , his examples always so convincing and touching . No matter a series of brief examples , nor an extended example like the 106 years old woman he mentioned in 2008 speech , he got them all from the ordinary life , the surround of his citizens , it is more important that he made these examples vivid and richly textured , all these together , he made his audience accept them totally and touched by them deeply . Especially when he referred to Ann Nixon Cooper , he told the changes the America have made what the 106 years old woman have seen , he called the attention the progress the America have made what the 106 years old woman have seen , he made it mach clear that “Y es ,We Can”become every American creed and believe that they can change the America . At that time , hisstrengthful voice , his appeal to change , what seemed to point the right direction to every confusion people sank into the foggy , made every American convinced that the change will bring the promising and they can do it . That is the magic of speech . That is the magic of Obama .The prepared manuscript have done the wonderful beginning of his speech , the other part and the most important part is his delivery . It is obvious that a speaker can’t convey his ideas clearly , interestingly , and not distracting the audience without a good delivery . Speech delivery is an art , and Obama made it , he controlled the timing and rhythm of a speech as skillfully as a conductor controls an orchestra . Next we will analyze his delivery in details .Obviously , while addressing the speech , he is reciting from memory which prepared before . However , we will not notice that because of his nature delivery . Rather than seeming to try to remember the words , he was able to concentrate on communicating with the audience . Of course , it is the basic of a good speech , while it should not be overlooked .Besides the methods of delivery , the speaker’s voice and body can also make a difference in delivering . During the addressing , the audience may distract form the speech , but the speaker’s voice will always be heard . An attractive voice can make a good effort in bringing the audience back . Barack Obama made it . His volume , pitch , rate , vocal variety sounded perfect , which made his voice more powerful and convincing . Watching through the whole speech , we will find that he conveyed his ideas strengthful , almost every sentence he spoke won the applause from the audience , and at that time , he would pause in time to wait quiet and get the audience’s attention . He used the pauses to modulate the rate and rhythm , just as Mark Twain said “no word was ever as effective as a rightly pause”, he gave the rightly pauses .As for the speaker’s body , we can see Barack Obama standing behind the table , looking around all his citizens , with waving his hands from time to time in the air . From the beginning to the end , he keep this kind of posture , especially , keep the eye contact with the audience through the whole process . His confident expression , his concentrated eyes , together with his voice told his citizens that he can be a good president .All the things will gone , except for what he said , which will remain the influence to later generations . Maybe in a evening of several years later , sitting next to a stove , a grandma will describe the two victory speeches to her granddaughter , talk about what is like in her age .。
