Unit11 What time do you go to school?

1. Analysis of the teaching material

This is the 11th unit in book 1, Go for it! The topic of this unit is daily routines

which are close to our daily life, so students will be interested in it. In section A, Ss

will learn the names of activities such as go to school, get up, run, eat breakfast, take

a shower and the special question of what time and frequency adverbs such as usually,

sometimes. In section B, Ss will learn the parts of day such as morning, afternoon,

evening and the special question of when. In the latter section, there’s also a revision

of section A. By studying this unit, students will be able to talk about daily routines

and ask about & say about times. After learning the sentences patterns such as what

time is it, it is 10:00a.m, what time do you usually get up, and I usually get up at six

o’clock etc, students will be able to make a schedule for their daily life and make full

use of time. What’s more, they will have a sense that different countries in different

areas have different time.

2. Analysis of the students

2.1 Students’ psychological characteristics

The students are only Grade 1 in Junior Middle School, so they are curious and

worry about their new school life. They hope they can achieve recognition in the new

class. They care about others’ evaluation and have some confused understanding of

their own ability. But by the former study of English, they have already had some idea

of what they can do, so this lesson will continue to improve their self-confidence by

doing pairwork of asking each other what they can do.

2.2 Students’ learning condition

Ss have learned numbers from 1 to 30, so they can talk about some time. And they

also have learned the simple present tense, so they can simply describe something.

The topic of this unit is daily routines which are close to students’ daily life, so they

will be interested with it. After Ss learn this unit, they will be able to talk about time

and daily routines and make a schedule of their life

3. Teaching objectives

Based on the new English curriculum, Ss are able to talk about daily routines by

learning this unit. In order to fulfill the learning task of this unit, it forms the

following teaching objectives:

3.1 Language skills

3.1.1 Ss will be able to talk about the time and daily routines.

3.1.2 Ss will be able to use the adverbs of frequency.

3.1.3 Ss will be able to describe someone’s daily routines and make a schedule.

3.2 Language knowledge

3.2.1 Ss will be able to master the new vocabularies: time, shower, usually, work,

hour, brush, teeth, after, bus, hotel, all, night, love, listen, home, morning, job, a.m.,

afternoon, evening, homework, letter, around, start, write, tell, me, soon, best, wish,

Saturday.

3.2.2 Ss will be able to use the new sentence patters:

-- What time is it? – It is 11:00 a.m.

-- What time do you usually go to school? – I usually go to school at 7 o’clock.

-- What time does Alicia take a shower? – She takes a shower at 8:00.

-- When does Alicia take a shower? – She takes a shower at 8:00.

3.3 Moral Objectives

3.3.1 Ss will be able to cooperate with their partners or group mates.

3.3.2 Ss respect others’ arrangement of schedule.

3.3.3 Ss will have a sense to use English in daily life.

3.3.4 Ss will be able to know time is priceless and they should make full use of

time.

3.4 Learning strategies

3.4.1 Ss will know the meaning of new vocabularies according to pictures or

practice

3.4.2 Ss will find out the similarities between sentences and make some new

sentences.

3.4.3 Ss will be able to talk about the time or daily routines while communicating

with others.

Ss will be able to know different countries in different areas have different time.
