The pictures AI has created include a teddy bear, an airplane and a clock tower. The technology is 80 percent accurate, reported Science magazine.Previously there have been AI models that can turn a word or phrase into images. The AI has studied lots of images and their text descriptions. Over time, the AI can find patterns and recreate pictures if you first input text. This time, the researchers took a step further. They trained the AI to link people’s brain scan data with images. They asked four people to look at 10, 000 different images, and let the AI find patterns of blood flow in the brain. Then the patterns can be related to the images. If people looked at an airplane, the AI would use the brain scan data to create an image of a very cloudy airplane. Then, it would turn on the previous “text - to - image” model. By feeding the keyword “airplane”, the AI would improve the image and make it more real.“It’s a new method that combines textual and visual information to ‘decipher the brain’”, Ariel Goldstein from Princeton University told Science magazine.Researchers said the technology could someday help people with paralysis to communicate. It might also help scientists understand dreams or even how other animals see the world.46.What do we know about the AI system mentioned in Paragraph 2?A.It can help train people’s minds.B.It can fully present people’s dreams. Every part of the product, from the screen to the electronics, is made of plastic. And it is described by engineer Dean Baker as "top quality". Baker says the plastic newspaper could help solve the problem of waste material associated with traditlional newspapers."There's a huge amount of waste . The ability to connect to friends, who remember the same movies, news and music, is really important, especially as people get older. It's just there, and they use it .There's been a very interesting change in communication styles between the old and the young .A woman named Sharryturkle wrote about this phenomenon(现象).There are some kids who are now in their teens and are tending not to make phone calls. And they think of e-mail as old-fashioned and slow. The reason why teens don't make phone calls seems to be that they don't know what to say. When they call they often pause for a while. On the other hand, texting is considered proper, and it's OK if you don't answer. He had never taken me to work with him before. How could I have said no? I had no idea where my father worked, nor how he earned a living. All I knew, back around 1992, was that he left our house every morning before we woke up and came back every night after we finished dinner. So, I gave him a positive answer. My dad drove us south to the city of Newark, where he was born. There we entered a middle-class apartment building. He made the rounds doing regular duty for the next few hours with me following closely. He checked the basic systems and services. He collected rents. He carried around a case of tools in case he needed to fix a broken door or get a washing machine running again. He took me to work with him a few other times over the years. I always loved going. I got to see him in action, doing his job among other people, out in the wider world and looking important, even heroic. I felt proud of him, proud to be his son. I wish he had taken me more often.Years later, I followed this tradition. I took my daughter Caroline with me to my office for a day. She saw me in a glassed-off conference room brainstorming with colleagues, on the phone talking with clients and — no doubt the most attractive scene of all — on my computer writing a report. With any luck, my daughter felt the same pride I had felt with my own father.Today fewer and fewer kids get the same opportunity. Maybe we should make this a tradition.41.Why did the author agree to go to work with his father for the first time?A.He wanted to earn money for himself.B.He was forced to go by his father.C.He was curious about his father’s job.D.He intended to repair their relationship.42.What tasks did the author’s father do?A.Checking systems, collecting rents, and fixing appliances.B.Working with colleagues and brainstorming ideas.C.Answering phone calls and organizing paperwork.D.Writing reports and attending meetings regularly.43.How did the author feel after seeing his father work?A.He felt pity for his father.B.He admired his father’s skills.C.He thought highly of his father.D.He questioned his father’s choice.44.What tradition did the author follow years later with his own daughter?A.Repairing broken doors and washing machines.B.Bringing her to his workplace for a day.C.Calling the clients and writing reports.D.Taking her to visit his hometown.45.How did the author’s experience with his dad influence him?A.It helped him build a successful career.B.It developed his great talents for business.C.It deepened his understanding of his work.D.It made him proud and follow the same tradition.Think about things around you when you get up in the morning: the alarm clock, toothbrush, toile, coffee maker, and shower heads… What do these things have in common? They are all inventions. They come in all shapes, sizes and varieties. And their inventors were from diverse backgrounds. Sure, many scientists have made discoveries and turned those discoveries into inventions. However, that doesn’t mean you must be a scientist to be an inventor. We often hear that necessity is the mother of invention, and it means that people often identify one of their needs and then try to meet that need. Sometimes the only way to meet thatneed is to invent a new product!Think about all of the musical instruments in the world. Now think of all the products that go along with those instruments. Instead of scientists, many of those products were invented by musicians. They discovered a need and then invented a product to satisfy it. They may have thought scientifically about the product. They may have had help from a scientist, but many people have shown that inventors can come from any background.Non-scientific approaches can help develop new inventions. Although thinking scientifically is often a necessity, it can also be helpful to think out of the box. We often get used to doing things the same way and thinking that some ideas won’t work, which makes us stop thinking about new things. But if we keep thinking, we might discover something amazing. That is why some inventors can come from a variety of non-scientific backgrounds. For example a poet and an astronomer both look at the sky, but they see it differently. The poet might have ideas about a problem the astronomer would never consider.See? You don’t have to be a scientist to be an inventor. Somehow, everyone can invent something.46.What is the main idea of the first paragraph?A.Inventions can be made by anyone, not just scientists.B.Inventions are mainly the result of scientific discoveries.C.Inventors must have scientific backgrounds.D.Inventors is good at inventing daily things.47.What does the underlined word in Paragraph 2 mean?A.Remember.B.Invent.C.Find.D.Develop.48.The writer mentioned the invention of musical instruments in order to show ______.A.the need for a solution leads to inventionB.music is very important in our livesC.inventions come from scientific thinkingD.music can help scientists become inventors49.What does the writer mean by saying “thinking out of the box” in Paragraph 4?A.It is helpful for people to keep thinking.B.It is not important for people to think scientifically.C.People need to think about things in new, different ways.D.People need to get used to doing things the same way.50.By writing the passage, what may the writer want to tell us?A.We should take a look at the sky.B.It’s not easy to write a piece of music.C.We should try to solve scientific problems.D.It’s possible for everyone to invent things.阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题.When Susan Greenstein Prescott was a high school senior, her English teacher, Fred DiMeo, gave her a terrifying task: recite (背诵) a poem in front of the whole class.“I had a stutter (口吃). I’d be trying to get a word out that might begin with ‘D’ or ‘TH’” Susan said. The thought of getting up in front of her classmates and stuttering through the poem was too much to bear. Susan went home and told her mom how scared she was. Her mom agreed to write a note asking for her to be excused from doing the work in front of the whole class. When the day of the recitation came, Susan recited the poem one-on-one to Fred. Once she was done, he said something she’d never heard before: he liked listening to her voice. For the first time, Susan considered the possibility that public speaking didn’t have to be a source of trepidation. “I think in his mind he wanted me to understand I have nothing to be afraid of,” she said. After college, Susan landed a job as a corporate trainer. The new position made her realize how big an impact Fred had had on her confidence. “I stand up in front of people and I speak. I do it all the time, and if I do stutter once in a while, no big deal,” she said.Susan recently found a way to contact her former teacher, and plans on sending him a letter expressing her appreciation. “He truly is an unsung hero,” she said. “I don’t know where I would’ve gone if I felt like I had to keep my voice quiet because I was afraid of embarrassing myself. I’d like to give him my thanks for that kindness.”51.Why did Susan refuse the teacher’s task? (no more than 10 words)52.How did Fred respond to Susan’s recitation? Fortunately, I didn’t get any channels showing all-night movies or I would never have gotten to bed. Then I started developing a problem with the set that involved static(静电) noise. For some reason, when certain shows switched into a commercial, a loud noise would sound for a few seconds. Gradually, this noise began to appear during a show, and to get rid of it, I had to change to another channel and then change it back. Sometimes this technique would not work, and I had to pick up the set and shake it toremove the sound. I actually began to build up my arm muscles(肌肉) shaking my set. When neither of these methods removed the static noise, I would sit helplessly and wait for the noise to go away. At last I ended up hitting the set with my first, and it stopped working altogether. My trip to the repair shop cost me $62, and the sit is working well now, but I keep expecting more trouble.4. But it's been a challenge trying to convince cooks to stop rinsing(冲aw poultry. Germs that can make people sick are common in the guts of healthy poultry and are legally allowed to be on raw turkey and chicken. The assumption is that nobody eats raw meat of poultry, and that thorough cooking will kill the bacteria."The do-not-wash raw poultry advice from the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA)is relatively new and perhaps hasn't caught on because it goes against the common belief that washing makes things clean,"said Chapman. Benjamin Chapman, a study author and food safety expert at North Carolina State University, said the instinct to wash raw poultry goes back at least decades when peoplerelied more on visual clues to spot problems with poultry. Meanwhile, washing hands and surfaces are also important. But food preparation is a complicated act, and germs from poultry can be spread even if it's not washed, especially when birds are removed from packaging. The USDA-funded study stresses that point. Researchers sprayed raw chicken with a harmless strain of E.coli(大肠杆菌)and watched volunteer cooks in test kitchens. Among those who washed their raw chicken, about a quarter ended up spreading the bacteria to their lettuce. But even some of those who did not rinse the chicken got germs on the lettuce. And there are other opportunities for germs to survive on turkey:melting and cooking. To insure a bird is thoroughly cooked, they say to use a thermometer to check and make sure that the deepest and thickest parts of it have reached165 degrees. Even after the meat is cooked, you aren't out of the danger zone. To keep turkey and other leftovers safe, experts say they should be refrigerated after two hours.8.Why don't people take USDA's advice?A. The advice is relatively new.B. Cleaning seems more trustworthy.C. Cooks clean the turkey before cooking it.D.Heat can kill most germs and no one eats raw meat.9.What can be concluded from Paragraph 4?A.Food packages carry germs.B.Hands and surfaces are easy to get E.coli.C. Multiple methods should be applied to food to get rid of germs.D. Germs from the raw chicken can be spread whether it is washed or not.10. Which way may help to cook the turkey safely?A. Rinsing the turkey before it is heated.B. Keeping the turkey away from lettuce and refrigerator.C.Washing hands and packages before taking out the turkey.D. Using a thermometer to check the temperature of the turkey.11.From which section of a magazine is the text probably taken?A . Culture .B . A new study shows that Americans are consuming as many as 121,000 particles each year.Measuring 50 to 500 microns in length, microplastics come from a variety of sources, including large plastics that break down into smaller and smaller pieces. Therefore, much remains unknown about the common existence of these materials within the human body, as well as the impact on human health.Hoping to fill in some of these gaps, a research team, led by Kieran Cox, a Ph. D. candidate at the University of Victoria, looked at 26 papers assessing the number of microplastics in commonly consumed food items, among which are seafood , sugar , salt , honey , alcohol and water . The team also evaluated the potential consumption of microplastics through inhalation(吸入)using previously reported data on microplastic concentrations in the air and the Environmental Protection Agency's date on respiration rates .Based on these data, the researchers calculated that our annual consumption of microplastics via foods and drinks ranges from 39, 000 to 52, 000particles. When microplastics taken in through inhalation are taken into account , the range jumps to between 74 , 000 and 121 , 000 particles per year .The authors of the study found that people who drink exclusively from plastic water bottles absorb additional 90,000 microplastics each year, compared with 4,000 among those who only consume tap water. "This shows that small decisions, over the course of a year, really matter and have an impact." Cox says. The new study, according to its authors, was the first to investigate"the accumulative human exposure to microplastics". But in all likelihood, the research tells only a small part of the entire story. Collectively, the foods and drinks that the researchers analyzed represent 15percent of Americans' caloric intake. The team could not account for food groups like fruits, vegetables and grain because there simply is not enough ata on their microplastic content. For those who worried about microplastic consumption, cutting down bottled water is a good place tostart. But for the heart of the problem, we have to stop producing and using so many plastics.12. What makes it difficult to know microplastics commonly exist in the human body?A. The quality of microplastics.B. The quantity of microplastics.C. The shape of microplastics.D. The size of microplastics.13. How did Kieran Cox's team calculate the potential consumption of microplastics?A. By studying papers.B.By comparing the impact.C. By analyzing existing data.D. By conducting experiments.14.What can we know according to the text?A. Drinking less plastic bottled water helps to take in fewer microplastics.B. The study is among the earliest ones to investigate human exposure to microplastics.C. Cox's team gained comprehensive information of microplastics taken in by humans.D.People consume 74,000 to 121,000 particles of microplastics per year from foods and drinks.15.
