Reading Report---Some Impressions of the Adventures of Tom SawyerThe Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain, is a literary masterpiece. Tom Sawyer, the leading role, is a mischievous young boy who lives in a small town on the Mississippi River called St. Petersburg. The story line is simple, and the book is more like a biography of a summer in Tom Sawyer's life.Tom was a piquant boy who is adopted by his aunt, Ms Polly. He was natural for playing all kinds of tricks which would make Aunt Polly frustrated and sad; however, he also could always try everything to avoid the punishment. In the novel, Tom fell in love with a lovely girl called Betty Thatcher who is the judge’s daughter. Moreover,he also made friends with Huckleberry Finn, a boy who lived on himself and was hated by all the parents in the town. At one night Tom and Huck saw something unexpected, a murder, when they were having fun in the graveyard. They witnessed that Indian Joe killed Doctor Robinson and pinned it on Mofe Potter when he is drunk. And this had made Tom and Huck so frightened that they made a pledge that they would never expose it. But their silence caused Potter under arrested, and Tom was extremely guilty about it. At the same time, Tom’s life wasn’t smooth, Betty was angry with him so that she decided to leave Tom alone, Aunt Polly often rebuked him, and these made Tom feel ignored. Therefore, Tom, together with Huck and Joe Harper, went to a small sand island to experience the pirates’life, and this kind of action made the whole town believed them had died. However, at last Tom and his partners returned to their beloved because of the guilty they felt. With the summer getting close, Tom became more and more uneasy because Potter would be sentenced. To save Harper, Tom stood out and expose that Indian Joe was the murderer. And in the last chapters, Tom, Betty, his friends and the local people successfully gave Indian Joe the punishment he deserved, even though he escaped for several times. And in the end, Indian Joe died in the cave and Tom got a large fortune.To be honest, when I first read this book, I found it a little hard because it’s the first time for me to study such a famous novel, especially a book without a Chinese word. However, I finished it, and I did get something from it. I would laugh when I read the chapter which is about the interesting love between Tom and Betty. I would be nervous when Tom encountered Indian Joe in the cave. And I would applaud when the killer finally got what he deserved. Sometimes I would envy Tom, he had such a colorful childhood, so many adventures and even a girlfriend at that a young age. While I was reading through the sections in which Tom fought against Indian Joe, I would often hope that I could have a chance to be a hero like Tom, but obviously, I was not that lucky.What’s more, every time I read this book, some of the memories from my childhood would come back. When aftertasting this story, we can find something common with ours. The jokes they played on others, the lies they told to avoid a punishment, and the love they received from the people around, all of these descriptions give us not only joy, but also the feelings we once felt. When reading the book, we can also recall the memories in which we are still living in a trouble-free environment and under the protection from parents, and we may also feel the childlike innocence, the warmth of life or the value of freedom we might have lost. Nevertheless, this masterpiece still brings me lots of fun, and this little hero-Tom-would be in my heart for a long time.After reading the novel, I sat down and thought a lot. Why aren’t we the one when we were young? Why don’t we behave as before? Why don’t we think as we once did? It seems that time has changed most of us. It’s the law of nature for people to grow up, and during the process of growth, we would have different opinions on what we went through, we may be not childish anymore, but we must have our own ends and be sure that they’re correct.
