Assignment:Interview with a ProfessionalInstructions: You (the student) are to locate a person (should not be a friend or boss) who currently holds approximately the same job and title that you hope to hold sometime between six months and five years from now. Schedule a fifteen-minute interview with this person. You (the student) will be the interviewer; the business professional will be the interviewee and will evaluate your interview skills at the close of the interview. This is not a fake job interview; it is a practical information-seeking interview where you can find out everything possible that will help you (a) decide whether you really want such a position and/or (b) help you prepare for the position. At the same time, you will get valuable interviewing experience. If you aren't sure what job area within your major interests you, use this interview as a way to narrow the list of possible careers. For the student who has no wish to make a position or career change, we suggest interviewing a person who has some knowledge or skill that might be helpful in some phase of your life. Again, this person should not already be part of your network!!!Here is a list of just a few questions that you might ask (you don’t have to ask them all; neither are you limited to these questions, as they are only suggestions; ask what you want to know):a. Exactly what does your job entail?b. What do you most like about this position; what do you like the least?c. What are the educational requirements for the position?d. How much experience is required for this position? Preferred?e. How did you get started in this career?f. If you could do things over again, would you choose the same career? Why or why not?g. What future changes do you see in this field (or position)?h. What is the average salary for a person just starting out in this position? How does thesalary in this company compare with that of other similar companies?i. What do I need to know about this job or this field that my professors won’t (or don’t)tell me?j. Describe the "ideal" employee in this company.k. What management style seems to work best here?l. Does this company encourage its employees to further their schooling? If so, do they give financial assistance?m. Is there a written or an unwritten dress code in this company (or department)?n. What questions could I expect if I were interviewing for a job of this type?o. What are the main problems I could expect to encounter in a position of this type?p. What professional organizations that you recommend interested students join?q. What are the main journals or newsletters read by professionals in this field?r. What other things can I be doing now to give myself an edge when I graduate?s. Could you give me the name of another person who might be willing to let me interview him or her?The interview should follow the organizational pattern we’ve discussed. At the end of the interview, you should ask the interviewee to evaluate you on Interview Form A. You should take a legal envelope and offer it to the interviewee; the interviewee should seal Form A in the envelope, and you should bring the sealed envelope to class along with your evaluation of yourself (use Interview Form B). Your instructor will then ask you to open the sealed envelope and compare the professional's evaluation with your own. If the professional's evaluation is less than you hoped, you may elect to do the assignment over with a different professional. Actually, you are encouraged to complete several interviews to provide (1) interviewing experience, (2) personal contacts, and (3) a check on the accuracy of the interviewee’s advice.Interview Evaluation—ProfessionalStudent's name _________________________________________ Total Score__________ Instructions: Please respond to the following questions with regard to the interview in which you have participated.
