5.增加概括词
概括词是英汉两种语言所共有的，但有时英语句子中并 没有出现概括词，而翻译的时候却往往可以加入“两 人”、“双方”、“等”、“等等”、“凡此种种”等 概括词，同时省略掉英语中的连接词。
速度快，可靠性强是电子计算机的主要优点。

4. 增加名词
A. 在不及物动词后增加名词 由于英语中有及物动词和不及物动词之分，有时宾语隐 藏在动词后面，翻译成汉语时需要把宾语补充出来。

(2) 英语抽象名词翻译的增词 抽象名词是指表示动作、状态、品质、情感等抽象概念的名 词。现代英语里，抽象名词使用非常广泛， 这是因为英语中名 词的作用比较活跃, 虽为抽象名词，但它们在行文中产生具体含 义，因此，翻译抽象名词时不可简单照搬辞典上的释义，而往 往需要在与抽象名词相对应的汉语后面加上一个名词。 Any student can tell of his nervousness before the examination. 学生都能讲述考试前紧张的心情.

(二) Syntactic construction (句法上的增词,是指增补原文 中省略的部分。) 英语中常有一些省略句。翻译时要把原文的语义补充完整。

(3) 英语不及物动词的翻译 英语句子中用了一些不及物动词，意义很完整，而这
些词在汉语中为及物动ld knit when I was seven. 我七岁时就会织毛衣。

(7) 常识、背景知识及文化知识方面增词 为了沟通不同的文化，在翻译中如果原文所涉及的文化是
中国读者所不熟悉的，就需要用增词发来阐释原语文化的内 涵，使中国读者理解原文的含义，如：

（一）semantic completion (语义增词)
(1) 英语名词数翻译的增词。 英语名词的复数形式是通过名词本身的词形变化表示 的，而汉语名词没有表示数的词形变化，只有“们”字用 来表示人称名词的多 数概念。 一些英语名词的复数概念 必须在译文中表达出来，否则，就不能正确表达原文的意 思。如： The virus may survive weeks and months. The lion is the king of animals.
Man, was, is and always will be trying to improve his living conditions.
无论是在过去、现在还是将来，人们总是在尽力改善生活条件。

译文中增加一些词可以更准确、更通顺的表达原文。 用这种方法翻译，叫做增词法。增加的是原文中虽无其 形但有其意的词，不是无中生有。大体上说， 增词法包 括两类：
