BEFORE聚会前•Always respond to an invitation within a week of receiving it.
•Dress according to the recommended dress code。
NEVER attempt to ”out dress” the hostess! 穿着永远不要试图盖过女主人的光芒.•Be punctual – you should not be late.守时—你不应该迟到•If you wish to bring a guest as your partner, etiquette demands that you should always check with the host first. However, if your family is invited, it is okay to ask if your children are included. Make sure your children know good table manners before they go and behave accordingly: no running around, no shouting. As the British used to say; Children should be seen, not heard!Their bad behavior will reflect on you。
If you are the one hosting the party and a guest of yours arrives with an unexpected friend, be polite & courteous with them, and speak with your inconsiderate guest at another time!

Talking about eating habit, unlike the West, where everyone has their own plate of food, in China the dishes are placed on the table and everybody shares. If treated by a Chinese host, be prepared for a ton of food. Chinese are very proud of their culture of preparing food and will do their best to show their friendliness. And sometimes the host will serve some dishes with his or her ownchopsticks to guests. This is a sign of politeness. The appropriate thing to dowould be to eat the whatever-it-is and say how delicious it is. If you feeluncomfortable with this, you can just say a polite "thank you" and leave the food there. There are some other rules that are suggested you follow to make your stay in China happier, though you will be forgiven if you have no idea of what they are.1. Never stick your chopsticks upright in the rice bowl; lay them on your dish instead. Otherwise, it is thought extremely impolite to the host and seniors present. The reason for this is that it seems to wish death upon a person at the table.2. Make sure the mouth of the teapot is not facing anyone, which meansthey are not popular. The mouth should always be directed to where nobodyis sitting, usually just outward from the table.3. Don't tap on your bowl with your chopsticks, since that will beconsidered offending to the host or the chef. Beggars tap on their bowls, andalso, when the food is coming too slow in a restaurant, people will tap their bowls. If you are in someone's home, it seems like hurting the feelings of the host or the cook.4. Never try to turn a fish over and remove its bones yourself, since the separation of the fish bones from thelower half of the flesh will usually be performed by the host or a waiter.
(When a dish is offered from a serving dish (a.k.a.family style), as is the traditional manner, the food may be passed around or served by a host or staff. If passed, you should pass on the serving dish to the next person i n the same direction as the other dishes are being passed. Place the serving dish on your left, take some, and pass to the person next to you. You should consider how m uch is on the serving dish and not take more than a proportional amount so that eve ryone may have some. If you do not care for any of the dish, pass it to the next pers on without comment. If being served by a single person, the server should request if the guest would like any of the dish. The guest may say "Yes, please," or "No, thank you.")

Remember you must never eat off a knife. When we use a fork together with a knife or spoon, the fork should be held in the left hand, in much the same way as the knife, with the prongs facing downwards. But sometimes people only use a fork. In that case you should hold the fork in the right hand with the prongs facing upwards.
