Over the past few years, there has been a big increase in the number of people sharing information online. In this article,we will learn about some positive reasons for people to share information online. We often share information with our friends in the office or at home to educate, entertain,or pleasantly surprise them.In this way,we can connect with others. This is also true while sharing information online. If you look at the Facebook of your friends, you will realize that most of their updates are usually famous quotes, entertaining videos, inspirational images, funny jokes,etc.94% of those surveyed by The Ne w York Times said they put a lot of thoughts into how the content they are sharing will be beneficial to others.A lot of people share information online to picture their true self to the outside world. Some people, especially those who are shy and not comfortably talking about their areas of interest in the presence of others, find it extremely convenient to share that information online with others.According to the study,78% of the people said they shared information online because it helpsthem develop better relationships.Today, people are so busy that they do not have the time to meet each other personally.A lot of people now “meet” each other online, rather than in places like restaurants and pubs.Lastly, when we share our thoughts online,we are actively communicating with a large number of people who are a part of the World Wide Web.Sharing information will affect the viewpoints of others,or add to their understanding about the world.思路点拨通读全文可知,本文是一篇说明文。

高考英语说明文5篇1Here is an astonishing and significant fact: Mental work alone can’t make us tire. It sounds absurd. But a years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labor without reaching a stage of fatigue (疲劳). To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all! If we took a drop of blood from a day laborer, we would find it full of fatigue toxins(毒素) and fatigue products. But if we took blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins at the end of the day.So far as the brain is concerned, it can work as well and swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning. The brain is totally tireless. So what makes us tired? Some scientists declare that most of our fatigue comes from our mental and emotional(情绪的) attitudes. One of England’s most outstanding scientists, J.A. Hadfield, says, “The greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin. In fact, fatigue of purely physical origin is rare.”Dr. Brill, a famous American scientist, goes even further. He declares, “One hundred percent of the fatigue of sitting worker in good health is due to emotional problems.”What kinds of emotions make sitting workers tired? Joy? Satisfaction? No! A feeling of being bored, anger, anxiety, tenseness, worry, a feeling of not being appreciated---those are the emotions that tire sitting workers. Hard work by itself seldom causes fatigue. We get tired because our emotions produce nervousness in the body.1. What surprised the scientists a few years ago?A. Fatigue toxins could hardly be found in a laborer’s blood.B. Albert Einstein didn’t feel worn after a day’s work.C. The brain could work for many hours without fatigue.D. A mental worker’s blood was filled with fatigue toxins.2. According to the author, which of the following can make sitting workers tired?A. Challenging mental work.B. Unpleasant emotions.C. Endless tasks.D. Physical labor3. What’s the author’s attitude towards the scientists’ idea?A. He agrees with them.B. He doubts them.C. He argues against them.D. He hesitates to accept them.4. We can infer from the passage that in order to stay energetic, sitting workers need to ________.A. have some good food.B. enjoy their workC. exercise regularlyD. discover fatigue toxins2They baby is just one day old and has not yet left hospital. She is quiet but alert (警觉). Twenty centimeters from her face researchers have placed a white card with two black spots on it. She stares at it carefully. A researcher removes the card and replaces it by another, this time with the spots differently spaced. As the cards change from one to the other, her gaze(凝视) starts to lose its focus — until a third, with three black spots, is presented. Her gaze returns: she looks at it for twice as long as she did at the previous card. Can she tell that the number two is different from three, just 24 hours after coming into the world?Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes. Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects (a comb, a key, an orange and so on), changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves. Could it be the pattern that two things make, as opposed to three? No again. Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three, or three to two. The effect even crosses between senses. Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two; likewise (同样地)when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots.5. The experiment described in Paragraph 1 is related to the baby’s__.A. sense of hearingB. sense of sightC. sense of touchD. sense of smell6. Babies are sensitive to the change in______.A. the size of cardsB. the colour of picturesC. the shape of patternsD. the number of objects7. Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats?A. To reduce the difficulty of the experiment.B. To see how babies recognize sounds.C. To carry their experiment further.D. To keep the babies’interest.8. Where does this text probably come from?A. Science fiction.B. Children’s literature.C. An advertisement.D.A science report3Last night’s meteor(流星) shower left many people in the community dissatisfied and demanding answers. According to Gabe Rothsclild, Emerald Valley’s mayor, people gathered in the suburbs of the city, carrying heavy telescopes, expecting to watch the brightly burning meteors passing through the sky. What they found instead was a sky so brightened by the city’s lights that it darkened the light of the meteors passing overhead.“My family was so frustrated,” admitted town resident Duane Cosby, “We wanted to make this an unforgettable family outing, but it turned out to be a huge disappointments.”Astronomers---scientists who study stars and planets----have been complaining about this problem for decades. They say that light pollution prevents them from seeing objects in the sky that they could see quite easily in the past. They call on people and the government to take measures to fight against it.There is yet a population besides professional and amateur star observers that suffers even more from light pollution. This population consists of birds, bats frogs, snakes, etc. For example, outdoor lighting severely affects migrating(迁徙的)birds. According to the International Dark-Sky Association. “100 million birds a year throughout North America die in crashes with lighted buildings and towers.”Countless more animals casualties(伤亡)result from the use of artificial lighting. Clearly, people enjoy the benefits of lighting their evenings, but some scientists think it can be harmful for humans, too. They worry that exposure to light while sleeping can increase person’s chances of getting cancer.Emerald Valley is only one community that is becoming aware of the negative effects of light pollution. For years, Flagstaff, Arizona, has enforced lighting regulations in its city in order to assist astronomers at the LowellObservatory. Similar efforts have been made worldwide, and a movement is underway to remind us to turn off lights when we are not using them, so that other creatures can share the night.9.It happened last night thatA. the city’s lights affected the meteor watchingB. the meteors flew past before being noticedC. the city light show attracted many peopleD. the meteor watching ended up a social outing10. What do the astronomers complain about?A. Meteor showers occur less often than beforeB. Their observation equipment is in poor repairC. Light pollution has remained unsolved for yearsD. Their eyesight is failing due to artificial lighting11. What the author concerned about according to Paragraph 4?A. Birds may take other migration pathsB. Animals living habits may change suddenlyC. Varieties of animals will become sharply reducedD. Animals’ survival is threatened by outdoor lighting12. Lighting regulations in Flagstaff, Arizona are put into effect toA. Lessen the chance of getting cancerB. create an ideal observation conditionC. ensure citizens a good sleep at nightD. enable all creatures to live in harmony13.What message does the author most want to give us?A. Saving wildlife is saving ourselvesB. Great efforts should be made to save energyC. Human activities should be environmentally friendlyD. New equipment should be introduced for space study4Almost every machine with moving parts has wheels, yet no one knows exactly when the first wheel was invented or what it was used for. We do know, however, that they existed over 5,500years ago in ancient Asia. The oldest known transport wheel was discovered in 2002 in Slovenia. It is over 5,100 years old. Evidence suggests thatwheels for transport didn't become popular for .while, though . This could be because animals did a perfectly good job of carrying farming tools and humans around. But it could also be because of a difficult situation. While wheels need to roll on smooth surfaces, roads with smooth surfaces weren't going to be constructed until there was plenty of demand for them. Eventually, road surfaces did become smoother, but this difficult situation appeared again a few centuries later. There had been no important changes in wheel and vehicle design before the arrival of modern road design. In the mid-1700s,a Frenchman came up with a new design of road--a base layer (层)of large stones covered with a thin layer of smaller atones. A Scotsman improved on this design in the 1820s and a strong, lasting road surface became a reality. At around the same time, metal hubs(the central part of a wheel) came into being, followed by the Wheels were invented in 1967, sixty years after the appearance of tarmacked roads(泊油路). As wheel design took off, vehicles got faster and faster.14. What might explain why transport wheels didn’t become popular for some time?A. Few knew how to use transport wheels.B. Humans carried farming tools just as well.C. Animals were a good means of transport.D. The existence of transport wheels was not known.15.What do we know about road design from the passage?A. It was easier than wheel design.B. It improved after big changes in vehicle design.C. It was promoted by fast-moving vehicles.D. It provided conditions for wheel design to develop.16. How is the last paragraph mainly developed?A. By giving examples.B. By making comparisons.C. By following time order.D. By making classifications.17. What is the passage mainly about?A. The beginning of road deaign.B. The development of transport wheels.C. The history of public transport.D. The invention of fast-moving vehicles.5Imagination and fantasy can play an important role in achieving the things we fear. Children know this very well. Fred Epstein, in his book I Make It to Five, tells a story he heard from one of his friends about Tom, a four-year-old boy with a cancer in his back bone. He came through several operations and a lot of pain by mastering his imagination.Tom loved to pretend, and he particularly loved to play superheroes. Dr. Epstein explained that it was actually a brilliant way for his young mind to handle the terrifying and painful life he led.The day before his third trip to the operating room, Tom was terribly afraid. “ Maybe I could go as Superman,” he whispered to his mom. Hearing this, the mother hesitated for while. She has avoided buying the expensive costume(戏装), but finally she agreed. The next day Tom appeared as the powerful Superman, showing off through the hospital halls and coolly waving his hand to the people greeting him along the way. And Tom, with the strength of his fantasy, successfully made it through the operation. The power of imagination need not be reserved for children only. We all have the power to use our fantasies to attempt things we never thought possible, to go through those things that seem impossible, and to achieve what we never believed we could. Just as Dr. Epstein puts it, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”It doesn’t mean that you should dress as a superhero for your next job interview. But, next time you are tested in a way that seems impossible, imagine what it would take to overcome it. Become the person you need to become to win over your challenge and do it in your mind first. So, let your imagination run wild, and dare to dream.18. What do we know about Tom?A. He was seriously ill.B. He was a dishonest boy.C. He was crazy about magic.D. He was Dr. Epstein’s patient.19. What can be inferred about Tom’s mother?A. She was a rich lady.B. She refused Tom’s request.C. She wanted Tom to be a superhero.D. She wanted to get Tom through the pain.20. When Tom went for the third operation, he_________.A. pretended to be painfulB. acted like a superheroC. appeared in poor spiritsD. argued with his mother21. In the last paragraph, you are advised________.A. to go through some difficult testsB. to wake up from your wilddreamsC. to become a powerful person in your mindD. to wear expensive clothes for job interviews22. What is the purpose of the passage?A. To tell us an interesting story.B. To help us make right decisions.C. To advise us to care about children.D. To encourage us to use our imagination.。

英语高考作文说明范文High School English Exam Explanation EssayNowadays, the English language has become an important tool for communication and a key subject in high school education. The high school English exam is designed to evaluate students' English language proficiency and their ability to apply the language skills they have acquired to different situations. In this essay, I will explain the format, content, and purpose of the English exam and provide a sample essay to demonstrate the expected level of performance. The high school English exam typically consists of two parts: a written examination and an oral examination. The written examination assesses students' reading and writing skills, while the oral examination evaluates their speaking and listening skills. Both parts are equally important and aim to test different aspects of language competence. In the written examination, students are usually required to complete various tasks, such as reading comprehension, writing an essay, and translating sentences or paragraphs. These tasks assess students' ability to understand different types of texts, express their thoughts and opinions, and apply grammatical and lexical knowledge. For example, students may be given a reading passage and asked to answer questions about the content or analyze the author's argument. In the writing section, they may be given a prompt and asked to write an essay expressing their views on a given topic. This part of the exam aims to test students' ability to think critically and express themselves effectively in writtenEnglish. The oral examination aims to evaluate students' speaking and listening skills. In this part of the exam, students are usually required to have a conversation with the examiner or their peers on a given topic. They may be asked to describe a picture, express their opinions on a social issue, or discuss a book or movie they have read or watched. The oral examination tests students' ability to communicate fluently, accurately, and confidently in English. It also assesses their listening skills, as they need to understand and respond appropriately to the questions or comments of the examiner or their peers. The purpose of the high school English exam is to assess students' English language proficiency and their ability to use the language effectively in different situations. It aims to encourage students to improve their language skills and develop their critical thinking and communication abilities. Additionally, the exam results can serve as a reference for college admissions or job applications, as English language proficiency is often a requirement for higher education or certain professions. To give you a better understanding of what is expected in the high school English exam, I will provide a sample essay prompt and a corresponding essay.Sample Essay Prompt: "Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media in today's society."Sample Essay:In today's society, social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. It allows us to connect with friends and family, share our thoughts and experiences, and access information easily. However, it also has its drawbacks. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media. One of the main advantages of social media is that it helps us stay connected with others. With platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, we can easily communicate with people from all around the world. We can share photos, videos, and messages, and receive instant feedback from our friends and followers. Social media also allows us to join online communities and participate in discussions about various topics. This helps us broaden our horizons and learn from others.Another advantage of social media is that it provides a platform for self-expression and creativity. Many people use social media to showcase their talents, whether it be through writing, art, or music. They can gain recognition, receive constructive feedback, and connect with like-minded individuals. Social media also allows us to express our opinions and contribute to important conversations. It gives a voice to those who may not have the opportunity to speak up in traditional media. However, social media also has its drawbacks. One of the main disadvantages is the issue of privacy and security. With the vast amount of personal information available on social media platforms, there is a risk of identity theft and cyberbullying. Many people have become victims of online harassment or have had their personal information exposed. Additionally, social media can beaddictive and time-consuming, leading to decreased productivity and social isolation. In conclusion, social media has both advantages and disadvantages. It allows us to connect with others, express ourselves, and access information easily. However, it also poses risks to our privacy and security and can be addictive. It is important for us to use social media responsibly and be aware of its potential negative effects. In summary, the high school English exam is designed to evaluate students' English language proficiency and their ability to apply the language skills they have acquired to different situations. It consists of a written examination and an oral examination, which aim to test students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The purpose of the exam is to assess students' language competence, encourage their language development, and provide a reference for higher education or job applications. To succeed in the exam, students need to demonstrate their ability to understand different types of texts, express their thoughts and opinions effectively, and communicate fluently and accurately in English.。

The poaching,or illegal(非法) killing,of rhinos(犀牛) in South Africa is growing worse each year. The government recently reported that a record number of rhinos were poached in 2014,a year which had more rhino killings in South Africa than ever before. The World Wildlife Fund,or WWF,says about 20,000 rhinos live in South Africa. That is more than 80 percent of the rhinos in the world.Edna Molewa,South Africa’s environmental issues minister, says,“During 2014,we are sad to say this:1,215 rhinos were killed. This is a rise in the number of poached rhinos from 1004 in 2013 and indeed very worrying.”The animals are hunted for their horns(犀牛角).Many people in Asia believe the horn has curing power, which drives poachers,at all costs, mad for more horns. But there is no scientific evidence for this belief. The horn is made of keratin. That is the same thing as human hair, fingernails and toenails.Ms.Mo1ewa said 386 suspected poachers were arrested last year,an increase from the year before. But rhino protection workers say poachers often go unpunished after arrest.South Africa’s legal system is ineffective.Ms.Molewa said more needs to be done and South Africa is taking strong measures to protect rhinos. The efforts include moving some of the animals to secret places in neighboring countries.“Now approximately 100 rhinos have been moved to neighboring states in the SADC region during 2014 and 200 more rhinos will be moved this year”Molewa said.Jo Shaw, the rhino program manager at the WWF,said,“we’re talking about a loss of a hundred rhinos a month.Or more than three a day.We really need to see effective action not just at a national level but internationally.”She says officials should find the criminal groups responsible for the poaching and punish them.____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________3.Parents should think twice before rewarding their children's good behaviourwith sweets, according to a leading nutritionist.Professor Susan Jebb, of Oxford University, says family attitudes should change as part of a wider strategy on tackling obesity(肥胖)- and there should be analternative to the 'easy option' of handing out sweets to youngsters.Speaking to the Sunday Express, Prof Jebb said: 'Unless you instill(灌输) good eating habits from a young age, it is likely children will grow up to becomeoverweight adults. But it is very difficult to persuade parents who see their children, who are a healthy weight, of the risks ahead.'Unlike with smoking, where thebenefits of giving up are obvious with evidence showing that every single cigarette shortens your life, the same cannot be said for every single biscuit you eat.' She also welcomed last week's comments by David Cameron that Britain's obesity 'crisis' should be treated as seriously as smoking and that a tax on sugarydrinks could be back on the agenda(议程). The Prime Minister hinted at anextraordinary U-turn amid growing public support for a 20 per cent levy.He said: 'Idon't really want to put new taxes on anything but we do have to recognise that we face something of an obesity crisis'.Mr Cameron said the costs of diabetes, heart disease and cancer treatment for the overweight costs the NHS huge sums.He added: 'We do need to have afully-worked-up programme to deal with this problem and address these issues inBritain and we will be making announcements later in the year'.Experts have also warned that obesity - fuelled by large amounts of sugar - is escalating at such a rate that it will cause almost 700,000 additional cases ofcancer within the next 20 years, experts have warned. They say that beingoverweight is already 'the new norm' and predict that four in ten adults will beobese by 2035.Estimates also show that by this time obesity-related illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease, will cost the NHS more than £7.5 billion a year.__________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________4.The expression, “everybody’s doing it,” is very much at the center of the concept of peer pressure(同伴压力). It is a strong influence of a group, especially of children, on members of that group to behave as everybody else does. It can be positive or negative. Most people experience it in some way during their lives.People are social creatures by nature, and so it is hardly surprising that part of their self-respect comes from the approval of others. This instinct (天性) is why the approval of peers, or the fear of disapproval, is such a powerful force in many people’s lives. It is the same instinct that drives people to dress one way at home and another way at work, or to answer “fine” when a stranger asks “how are you?” even if it is not necessarily true. There is a practical aspect to this: it helps society to function efficiently, and encourages a general level of self-discipline that simplifiesday-to-day interaction. For certain individuals, seeking social acceptance is so important that it becomes like an addiction; in order to satisfy the desire, they may go so far as to abandon their sense of right and wrong. Teens and young adults may feel forced to use drugs, or join gangs that encourage criminal behavior. Mature adults may sometimes feel pressured to cover up illegal activity at the company where they work, or end up in debt because they are unable to hold back the desire to buy a house or car that they can’t afford in an effort to “keep up with the Jone ses.” However, peer pressure is not always negative. A student whose friends are good at academics may be urged to study harder and get good grades.Players on a sports team may feel driven to play harder in order to help the team win. This type of influence can also get a friend off drugs, or to help an adult take up a good habit or drop a bad one. Study groups and class projects are examples of positive peer groups that encourage people to better themselves. Schools try to teach kids about the dangers of negative peer pressure. They teach kids to stand up and be themselves, and encourage them to politely decline to do things that they believe are wrong. Similarly, it can be helpful to encourage children to greet the beneficial influence of positive peer groups.____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________Keys:1.Many people regard daydreaming as a waste of time and energy. However, that is notthe case. Many medicalStudies have found that daydreaming has a lot of benefits. First of all, daydreaming can improve your mood. What’s more, it helps develop your memory. Last but not least, daydreaming helps you to know yourself better.2.The poaching of rhinos is getting worse in South Africa each year, according to thegovernment and WWF.Many rhinos are killed for their horns ehich is believed to have curing power. Althouh more poachers arearrested, they hardly get punished. So the members of WWF are calling on moremeassures which should taken by the government and the whole world to protectrhinos.,including effective legal system, rhinos living place and even internationalcooperation.3.Professor Susan Jebb, of Oxford University, urges parents to seek healthier alternative tohanding kid’s obesity rather than adopt easy methods.
