词类转换译法

英语中许多名词, 动词含义灵活, 翻译时需要从其基本 意义出发, 联系上下文加以灵活处理。
通常情况下, 由动词派生的名词和具有动作意义或含 有动作意味的名词往往可以转译成汉语动词; 由形容 词派生的名词和一些加不定冠词作表语用的名词往往 可以转译成形容词。有些意义抽象的名词或名词短语 与句子其他成分之间存在一定的逻辑关系时, 可以根 据其意义转译成汉语副词或相应的状语成分。

3 形容词转译成动词
英语中表示知觉、情欲、欲望等心理状 态的形容词，在系动词后作表语用时， 往往可转译成动词。如：confident, certain, careful, cautious, angry, sure, ignorant, afraid, doubtful, aware, concerned, glad, delighted, sorry, ashamed, thankful, anxious，grateful, able, content, suspicious, resentful等。

汉英翻译第五讲词类转换第五讲词类转换词类转换包括把英语名词翻译成汉语的动词、形容词或者副词；把英语的形容词翻译成汉语的副词、动词或者名词；把英语的副词翻译成汉语的名词、动词或者形容词；把英语动词翻译成汉语的名词或者副词；把英语介词翻译成汉语的动词等。

转换词性，就增加了词汇选择的可能性，从而达到丰富用词，增加译文的文采。

翻译下列句子：1.唱歌，她最棒。

She is the best singer.2. 我太太那时也在韩山师范学院教书。

她教书比我教得好。

My wife was also a teacher in Hanshan Teachers’College at that time. She was a better teacher than I was.3.她最会记仇。

• The government called for the establishment of more technical schools.
• My suggestion is that he should quit smoking at once.

3. 英语中有不少习惯用语的动词，如give a picture of, make use of, have a look, take care of 等，它们的中心词是名词，可转译为动词。
❖ These data have been made use of in production. 在生产中已利用了这些资料。
3. 有些由形容词派生出来的名词，在汉译时， 可以转移为形容词。
❖ He found some difficulties to design a chemical plant without an electronic computer. 他感到没有电子计算机要设计一座化工厂是 很困难的。
❖ The complication of mathematical problems made him into difficulties. 复杂的数学问题使他陷入了困境。
名词。 有些由形容词派生出来的名词，在汉译时，可以转移为形容词。
❖ 词类转换就是翻译时改变原文中某些词的词 性，以符合汉语的表达习惯。
4.1 名词的转译
4.1.1 转译为汉语的动词（n. → v.） 1. 具有动作意味的词，常常转译为汉语的动词
。
❖ Total determination of molecular structure is possible by means of X-ray diffraction. 用x射线衍射的方法可以全面确定分子结构。 （省译、转译、增译）
4.1.3 转译为汉语的副词（n. → adv.）
❖ Efforts to apply computer techniques have been a success in improving pyrolysis techniques. 使用计算机技术的努力已经成功地促进了热 解技术的发展。

转译法
由于英语和汉语在句子结构和表达习 惯上的不同，机械地把英语的某一词 类译成汉语的同一词类，把英语的某 一成分，译成汉语的同一成分，显然 是不行的（反之亦然），有时需要转 换一下。这种做法，翻译界把它称为 “转换译法”或简称“转译法”。转 译法大量体现在词类转译和成分转译 上。

五、形容词转译成动词
①英语中形容词，尤其是表示感觉和感情的形容 词，往往具有动词的意义。因此在英译汉时表示 感觉和感情的形容词，在系动词后作表语时，往 往 可 以 译 成 动 词 。 如 ： confident, certain, careful, cautious, angry, sure, ignorant, afraid, doubtful, aware, concerned, glad, delighted, sorry, ashamed, thankful, anxious 等。

词类转换翻译法在英译汉的过程中，有些句子可以逐词对译，有些句子则由于英汉两种语言的表达式不同，就不能逐词对译。

原文中有些词在译文中需要转换词类，才能使汉语译文通顺自然。

一、名词的转译1.英语名词转译成动词由动词派生的名词，具有动词意思的名词，以结尾表示身份或职业的名词等，这些名词都可以转译成动词。

【例1】The remembrance of these will add zest to his life.×对于这些事情的回想将会增添他生活的乐趣。

【译文】回想起这些事情，会给他的生活增添乐趣。

【例2】He looked on the Convention as a fair and faithful representation of the people.×他认为这次大会是人民的公正忠实的代表。

【译文】他认为这次大会公正忠实地代表了人民。

【例3】Other governmental activities are the responsibilities of the individual states, which have their own constitutions and laws.×其他政府活动则是各个州的责任，各州都有自己的宪法和法律。

【译文】其他政府职能则由各个州来承担，各州都有自己的宪法和法律。

【例4】The sight and sound of our jet planes filled me with special longing.【译文】看到我们的喷气式飞机，听到隆隆的机声，我感到特别神往。

【例5】To my knowledge, some computers have gone missing.【译文】据我所知，有几台计算机失踪了。

【例6】He was a good listener and they would like to talk with him.×他是个好听众，所以他们喜欢同他谈话。

第5章英汉翻译中的词类转换法

译文：发达国家拥有大量的熟练劳动力和资本，所以它 们能集中生产很多技术密集型的产品，比如计算机、飞 机等等。
析： 形容词翻译成汉语中的动词的现象是不多见的， 另外，英语形容词往往需要和系动词be相搭配才可以被 转换成汉语中的动词。因此，严格地说，是英语中的 “be+形容词”的系表结构可以被转换成汉语中的动词。 本例中原文are rich in被翻译成汉语中的动词结构“拥 有大量的…”即是典型的例子。
1.具备动态概念的名词转译成动词
The sight of the boy reminds me of this passed father.
看到那个男孩，使我想起来他已故的父亲。 The love of parents for their children is perfect
and minute. 父母爱其子是无微不至的。 An acquaintance of world history is helpful to

3. 形容词转译成名词
The voyage was a smooth one. The wind is favorable and the weather fair.

诗歌《静夜思》中的“床前明月光”被翻译 为“The bright moonlight in front of my bed”，而不是“The bright moonlight in front of my bedside”，因为“床前”在中 文中是名词，而在英文中是介词短语，用来
描述月光的位置。
案例二：商务翻译中的词类转换

例如，英文原文“The board approved the decision”可以翻译 为“董事会通过了这项决议”，将英 文中的名词“decision”转换为中文 的动词“通过”。
科技翻译
在科技翻译中，由于涉及大量的专业术语和概念，需要进行准确的词类转换以保证信息的准确传递。例如，将英文中的形容 词转换为中文中的名词，或将中文中的动词转换为英文中的形容词。
例如，英文原文“The material is highly durable”可以翻译为“这种材料非常耐用”，将英文中的形容词“durable”转换为中 文的形容词“耐用的”。

绝大多数汉语形容词却没有名词形式，所以英语 中的这类抽象名词常常可以译成汉语中的形容词。

（四）副词转译成动词 1．As he ran out, he forgot to have his shoes on. 2．In this case the temperature in the furnace is up.
二、转译成名词 （一）英语中很多由名词派生的动词，以 及由名词转用的动词，在汉语中往往不易 找到相应的动词，这时可将其转译成汉语 名词。 1．名词派生的动词 1）Such materials are characterized by good insulation and high resistance to wear. 2）To them, he personified absolute power.
三、转译成形容词 （一）名词往往可以转译成形容词 1．Only if one begins with this assumption it is possible to pierce through the invisibility of 40,000,000 to 50,000,000 human beings and to see the other America. 2．Independent thinking is an absolute necessity in study.
4．作为习语主体的名词往往可以转译成动 词，如to have a rest ,to have a good look.
The next news bulletin, shorter than usual, made no mention of the demonstration.
（二）前置词转译动词 英语中前置词是用得相当多的，其中有些 没有动作意味而表示时间，地点的前置词， 汉译时往往可以省略，但许多含有动作意 味的前置词，如across, past, toward,汉译 时往往可以译成动词。 1．Party officials worked long hours on meager food, in cold caves, by dim lamps. 2．A force is needed to move an object against inertia.
2．含有动作意味的名词往往可以译成动词。 A glance through his office window offers a panoramic view of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. 3．英语中有些加后缀的名词，如teacher, thinker等,有时在句中并不指身份和职业， 而是含有较强的动作意味，在汉语中没有 恰当的对应名词时，往往可以译成动词。 1）Three out of four examiners had called him mad.
（二）有些英语被动式中的动词，可以译 成受（遭）到…+名词：予（加）以十名词 这类结构。 1．Many Congressmen desire to protect civil liberties. Almost all the members are considerably influenced by principles of this kind. 2．Mistakes must not be covered up. They must be exposed before you can correct them. 3．He was set upon by two masked men.
例：He admires the President’s stated decision to fight for the job .(他对总统声明 为保住其职位而决心奋斗表示钦佩)。这个 英语句中只有admire一个谓语动词，其它 用的是过去分词（stated）、名词派生名词 （decision）、不定式（to fight）。汉语无 词形变化，但可以几个动词连用。因此英 语中不少词类，（尤其是各词、前置词， 形容词、副词）在汉译时往往可以转译成 动词。

第五节 词类转译法
在英译汉过程中，有些句子可以逐词对译。 但由于英汉两种语言表达方式不同，在某 些情况下不能逐词对译，文中的某些词在 译文中需要根据汉语习惯转换词类，才能 使译文通顺、自然。 一、转译或动词 英语和汉语比较起来，汉语中动词用得多， 英语一个句子则只能有一个谓语动词。
他从的办公室窗口可以一眼看到华盛顿纪 念碑和林肯纪念馆的全景。 有四个人检查了他，其中三个人认为他疯 了。
我未必会教你游泳，我想我的小弟弟比我 教得好。 他是一位著名歌唱家。 我们班有些同学唱歌唱得很好
下一个新闻节目比通常短，没有提到游行。
党的干部吃简单的饭菜，注寒冷的窑洞， 靠微弱的灯光，长时间地工作。 为了使物体克服惯性而运动，就需要个力。
2．名词转用的动词 1）Ted had telegraphed that he would be three days late owing to a special examination which, if he passed, would lighten the terrific burden of the next term. 2）The design aims at automatic operation, easy regulation, simple maintenance and high productivity.

（一）名词转译成动词 英语中大量由动词派生的名词和具有动作 意义的名词以及其它名词往往可以转译成 汉语动词。 1．由动词派生名词转译成动词。 1）Rockets have found application for the exploration of the universe. 2）Nowadays the transmission of power by electricity has brought about a great change.
医生们说他们不敢肯定能否救得了他的话。
两种物质都能溶于ห้องสมุดไป่ตู้。
他跑出去时忘记了穿鞋子。
这种情况下，炉温就升高。
这些材料的特点是：绝缘性好，耐磨性强。
在他们看来，他就是绝对权利的化身。
特德发来了一个电报，说是要参加一次特 别考试，要迟两三天才能回家，如果考试 及格，就可以大大减轻下学期的沉重负担。 设计的目的在于自动操作，调节方便，维 护简易，生产率高。
（三）形容词转译成动词 英语中表示知觉，情感，欲望等心理状态 的形容词，在联系动词后作表语用时，往 往可转译成汉语动词。 1．Doctors have said that they are not sure they can save his life. 2．Both of the substances are soluble in water.
（三）形容词转译成名词 1．英语中有些形容词加上定冠词表示某一 类的人，汉译时常译成名词。 They had to take care of the sick and wounded. 2. 此外，根据情况还有些形容词可以译成 名词。 1）I don’t think that is quite proper . 2）Then the monkeys were trained according to different plans so as to make
