A person who believes in himself will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion , the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel disappointed and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow.Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes so that we can not make the same ones. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin to doubt our abilities. In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not , we will learn something , and what we learn will help us to become better and more confident. Furthermore, if we give up , we have no chance of attaining our goals any more , but if we keep making great efforts, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.Topic: Never Give Up拼写(共10小题;每题0.5分,共5分) 根椐句子意思和所给中文,写出适当的单词。

When he was interviewed about the award, Mo said, “I’ll continue the career I’ve taken, feet on the ground, d escribing people’s lives and emotions, writing from the standpoint (立场) of ordinary people.” The Swedish Academy praised (赞扬) Mo Yan for “mixing folk tales, history and the contemporary with hallucinatory (幻觉的) realism”.Mo, whose real name is Guan Moye, was born in a farming family in eastern Shandong province in 1955. Mo once said his penname, meaning “don’t speak”, was intended to remind him to hold his tongue in case he got himself into trouble since he began writing while serving in the army.Mo has published novels, short stories, and essays on various topics. His works have been translated into many languages. His writing is powerful, visual, and broad, dipping into history to tell stories of China and its people. All his novels create unique individual realities, quite different from the political stories. He said, “Writers should express criticism and anger at the dark side of society and the ugliness of human nature, but should not use one uniform expression. Some may want to shout on the street, but we should tolerate those who hide in their rooms and use literature to voice their opinions.”His breakthrough came with the novel Red Sorghum published in 1987. Set in a small village, Red Sorghum is a tale about love and peasant struggles. The novel was adapted into a film that won the top prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1988 and that made Mo popular. Such activity was not possible until modern times. Today, divers (潜水者) can survive for hours underwater and photograph fish and other sea creatures. Not everyone can swim with fish in the ocean. But they can enjoy underwater life in another way—by visiting an aquarium (水族馆).Experts do not really know when people began keeping fish as pets. But they say that people have been interested in fish for thousands of years. The ancient Sumerians (苏美尔人) were the first civilization to keep fish in ponds more than four thousand years ago. The Chinese kept and studied carp and goldfish more than one thousand years ago. The ancient Romans kept eels as pets. And the Greek philosopher Aristotle made what is believed to be the first known study of sea life, including sharks and dolphins.By the middle of the 19th century, science had shown that plants, fish and other sea creatures could survive together under water. Therefore, it was no longer necessary to change the water in a tank for fish to live there. This led to the building of the first public aquariums. The first aquarium opened in London in 1853. In the next fifteen years, other aquariums opened in Europe and the United States. By 1928, there were about forty-five public aquariums in the world. One study in the United States found that 38% of foreign students said they had no close American friends. Communications specialist Elisabeth Gareis studied more than 450 foreignstudents in her study for the result.Elisabeth Gareis from Baruch College in New York said efforts on how to improve relationships between the two groups of students had not yet to be studied in detail. But she said these efforts should begin with the college or university, and that these institutions should work harder. “Institutions should create more opportunities which can promote the contact between the home students and the foreign students. And they can do that by, for example, organizing activities at the beginning of the academic year.”Ms. Gareis suggested activities such as taking walks, camping trips, and attending parties, sporting events or film festivals, etc. She said such activities should be held repeatedly to bring students together throughout the school term. Ms. Gareis also suggested that foreign students share housing with American students.Michigan State University is known for its programs for international students. Last year, about 5,900 students from 133 countries attended Michigan State. Peter Briggs directs the Office for International Students and Scholars at Michigan State. He said more foreign students are expected to register this week. Many students and community members are trained and prepared to help foreign students. The volunteers assist new students as they complete the government requirements and find their academic advisors. T hey also give the teacher an idea of students’ science thoughts of phenomena and ideas. To make a discussion map, the teacher needs to do a couple of things. First, the teacher needs to keep informed of the ideas that are shared and who shared the idea. The teacher does this as the children talk, making quick notes of the ideas and thoughts. It can be helpful to record the discussion, but it isn’t required. Then, after the discussion is over, the teacher reflectively creates the discussion map to clarify the understanding of the ideas and connections that students were making in their talk.Educators have identified discussions as consistent with reform recommendations in that they help children learn about the nature science and are useful in combining literacy and science. It is suggested that discussions can be useful for teachers in evaluating students’ ideas and building excitement as science. Discussions offerwindows on students’ thinking, provide students who struggle in reading and writing with a chance to participate more actively in class, and create situations where students can express their ideas differently than in traditional schools tasks. However, I suggest that there are additional reasons for having reasoned discussions in classrooms. First, discussions like this allow students to use their own vocabulary --- the words and terms that make sense to them and their classmates --- to drive the intellectual and academic work of understand phenomena. Many times learning science can become focused on learning terms but not necessarily understanding and explaining phenomena. Second, discussions allow students to think about their experiences and the things that they know and try to reconcile these with science ideas. This is challenging, but working together with classmates can help. Finally, reasoned discussions are fundamentally scientific because they offer an open forum that allows all students to be heard, and students’ ideas can be evaluated and connected to their experiences with scientific explanations of those phenomena. For example, during the children’s reasoned discussion about plants, the group came to the agreement that seeds grow into plants. The students understood that most seeds get buried in the ground, the seeds get wet, and then plants grow. This led to a question about whether the seed was still in the ground when the plant had grown into an adult plant. The students came up with several ideas about where the seeds were. During this conversation, the teacher took careful notes so that later investigations could respond to the questions that children were asking. Thus the students were working together using their ideas and understandings and realized something as a group that they didn’t understand as individuals.2015秋高三英语作业(16)编写:黄士龙班级_____________姓名______________学号_______审核_____________ASome say every day miracles are predestined (注定的)---- All that’s necessary is readiness, the right circumstance for the appointed meeting. But New York’s widespread efforts to make streets safer for bikes have also left some locals complaining about the loss of parking spots and lanes for cars. When the weather is good, Aaron Naparstek likes to pedal(用踏板踩)his two young kids to school on a special Dutch-made bicycle. Naparstek supports the new lane. Aaron: The bike lane on Prospect Park West is really introducing a lot of new people to the idea that it’s possible to use a bike in New York City for tra nsportation or to travel around. This is what 21st century New York City looks like.Prospect Park West is still a one-way road, but where it used to have three lanes of car traffic, now it has two, plus a protected bike lane. Supporters say that makes the road safer for everyone, including pedestrians, by slowing down cars and taking bikes off the sidewalk. But some longtime residents disagree. Lois Carswell is president of a group called Seniors for Safety. She says the two-way bike lane is dangerous to older residents who are used to one-way traffic.Lois:We wanted a lane —the right kind of lane that would keep everybody safe, that would keep the bikers safe. But we want it to be done the right way. And it has not been done the right way.Craig Palmer builds bars and restaurants in Manhattan. I was interviewing him for a different story when he brought up the bike lanes all on his own.Craig: I think the biggest problem is that Bloomberg put all these bike lanes in. You took what used to be a full street and you’re shrinking it.Then there are the Hasidic Jews in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, who forced the city to remove a bike lane through their neighborhood. But polls show that the majority of New Yorkers support bike lanes by a margin of 56% to 39%. Bicycle advocate Caroline Samponaro of Transportation Alternatives calls that a mandate.Caroline: If this was an election, we would have already had our victory. The public has spoken and they keep speaking. And I think, more importantly, the public is starting to vote with their pedals.59. What does Aaron mean by saying “This is what 21st century New York City lookslike.”?A. There are hundreds of miles of new bike lanes in 21 st century New York City.B. Who Wins an ElectionCFood sometimes gets poisoned with harmful things. A person who eats such food can get an illness called food poisoning. Food poisoning is usually not serious, but some types are deadly. The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within hours of eating the poisoned food. Fever is one of the most common symptoms.Certain microorganisms(微生物)cause most types of food poisoning. Bacteria and other microorganisms can poison eggs, meat, vegetables, and many other foods. After entering the body, these tiny living things release(释放)poisons that make people sick. Some chemicals can also cause food poisoning. They are often added to food while it is being grown, processed, or prepared. For example, many farmers spray chemicals on crops to kill weeds and insects. Some people may have a bad reaction to those chemicals when they eat the crops. Some plants and animals contain natural poisons that are harmful to people. These include certain kinds of seafood, grains, nuts, seeds, beans, and mushrooms. When people handle food properly, the risk of food poisoning is very small. Microorganisms multiply rapidly in dirty places and in warm temperatures. This means that people should never touch food with dirty hands or put food on unwashed surfaces. Food should be kept in a refrigerator to stop microorganisms from growing. Meat needs to be cooked thoroughly to kill any dangerous microorganisms. People should also wash food covered with chemicals before eating it. Finally, people should not eat wild mushrooms or other foods that grow in the wild. Some of these foods may contain natural materials that are poisonous to humans. In addition, some types of fish can be poisonous. Most people recover from food poisoning after a few days of resting and drinking extra water. If people eat natural poisons, they must go to the hospital right away to have their stomachs emptied.63. Which of the following statements is NOT true?A. Food when poisoned can make people sick.B. Food poisoning means death.C. Food poisoning comes in varieties.D. Food poisoning can be serious.64. It can be inferred from the passage that .A.natural materials are safe in food processingB.chemicals are needed in food processingC. food poisoning can be kept under controlD. food poisoning is out of controlDKincaid looked at his watch: eight-seventeen. The truck started on the second try, and he backed out, shifted gears, and moved slowly down the alley under hazy sun. Through the streets of Bellingham he went, heading south on Washington 11, running along the coast of Puget Sound for a few miles, then following the highway as it swung east a little before meeting U.S Route 20.Turning into the sun, he began the long, winding drive through the Cascades. He liked this country and felt unstressed stopping now and then to make notes about interesting possibilities for future expeditions or to shoot what he called “memory snapshots.” The purpose of these causal photographs was to remind him of places he might want to visit again and approach more seriously. In later afternoon he turned north at Spokane, picking up U.S. Route 2, which would take him halfway across the northern United States to Duluth, Minnesota. He wished for the thousandth time in his life that he had a dog, a golden retriever, maybe, for travels like this and to keep him company at home. But he was frequently away; overseas much of the time and it would not be fair to the animal. Still, he thought about it anyway. In a few years he would be getting too old for the hard fieldwork. “I must get a dog then.” He said to himself.Drives like this always put him into a sentimental mood. The dog was part of it. Robert Kincaid was alone as it’s possible to be—an only child, parents both dead, distant relatives who had lost track of him and he of them, no close friends. He thought about Marian. She had left him nine years ago after five years of marriage. He was fifty-two now, that would make her just under forty. Marian had dreams of becoming a musician, a folksinger. She knew all of the Weavers’ songs and sang them pretty well in the coffeehouse of Seattle. When he was home in the old days, he drove her to the shows and sat in the audience while she sang. His long absences—two or three months sometimes—were hard on the marriage. He knew that. She was aware of what he did when they decided to get married, and both of them had a vague(not clear) sense that it could all be handled somehow. It couldn’t when he came from photographing a story in Iceland and, she was gone. The note read, “Robert, it didn’t work out, I left you the Harmony guitar. Stay in touch.”He didn’t stay in touch, neither did she. He’s signed the divorce papers whenthey arrived a year later and caught a plane for Australia the next day. She had asked for nothing except her freedom.67. Which statement is true according to the passage?A. Kincaid’s parents were dead and he only kept in touch with some distant relatives.B. Kincaid would have had a dog if he hadn’t been away from home too much.C. Kincaid used to have a golden retriever.D. Kincaid needed a dog in doing his hard fieldwork.68. Why did Kincaid stop to take photos while driving?A. To write “memory snapshots”B. To remind himself of places he might want to visit again.C. To avoid forgetting the way back.D. To shoot beautiful scenery along the road.69. What can you know about Marian?A. She died after five years of marriage.B. She was older than Kincaid.C. She could sing very well and earned big money.D. She was not a professional pop singer.70. We can draw a conclusion from the passage that .A. Marian knew what would happen well before she married Kincaid.B. Kincaid thought his absence would be a problem when he married Marian.C. It turned out that Marian could not stand Kincaid’s absence and left him.D. After Marian left him, they still kept in touch with each other.。

He was explaining the story of mankind to his pupils. He told them that, in the beginning, men were nomads; they never stayed in the same place for very long. Instead ,they would travel about, here and there, in search of food, wherever it was to be found. And when the food ran out, they wouldmove off somewhere else.He taught them about the invention of farming and keeping animals. This was an important discovery, because by learning to cultivate (耕作)the land, and care for animals, mankind would always have food steadily available. It also meant that people could remain living in one place, and this made it easier to set about tasks that would take a long while to complete, like building towns, cities, and all that were in them. All the children were listening attracted by this story, until Lucy jumped up:“And if that was so important and improved everything so much, why are we nomads all over again,Mr.Arnold?”Mr. Arnold didn’ t know what to say. Luc y was a very intelligent girl. He knew that she lived with her parents in a house, so she must know that her family were not nomads; so what did she mean?“We have all become nomads again,” continued Lucy,” The other day, outside the city, they were cuttin g the forest down. A while ago a fisherman told me how they fish. It’s the same with everyone: when there’s no more forest left the foresters go elsewhere, and when the fish run out the fishermen move on. That’s what the nomads did, isn’t it?”The teacher nodded, thoughtfully.Really,Lucy was right. Mankind had turned into nomads. Instead of looking after the land in a way that we could be sure it would keep supplying our needs, we kept developing it until the land was bare. And then off we would go to the next place! The class spent the rest of the afternoon talking about what they could do to show how to be more civilized. The next day everyone attended class wearing a green T-shirt, with a message that said “I am not a nomad!”And, from then on, they set about showing that indeed they were not. Every time they knew they needed something, they made sure that they would get it using care and control. If they needed wood or paper, they would make sure that they got the recycled kind. They ordered their fish from fish farms, making sure that the fish they received were not too young and too small. They only used animals that were well cared for, and brought up on farms. And so, from their little town, those children managed to give up being nomads again, just as prehistoric men had done, so many thousands of years ago.14.Why would early humans travel about in the beginning?A. To experience different lifestyles.B. To go sightseeing in different places.C. To find what they could to feed themselves.D. To do more exercise to build themselves up.15.From Paragraph 2,we can know that .A. people got tired of living in the same placeB. people gradually got used to living in citiesC. people spent a long time in learning to keep animalsD. people tended to settle down after learning farming16.In the teacher’s opinion ,Lucy’s argument was .A. reasonableB. ridiculousC. puzzlingD. shocking17.Which of the following agrees with the message “I am not a nomad” (Paragraph 7)?A. Liz PayneBThe freezing Northeast hasn’t been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags were packed before you could say “sunshine”. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C(维生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets(at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part-particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold-weather root vegetables-was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers’ market that proved t o be more than worth the early wake-up call. The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7 am to 1 p.m, rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries, the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft a nd round red tomatoes.Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, I’ve refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they’re unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown’s Grove Farm’s stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal- and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldn’t be experiencing again for months.Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown’s Grov e Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where-luckily for me-I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew I’d be ordering every tomato on it.24. What did the author think of her winter life in New York?A. Exciting.B. Boring.C. Relaxing.D. Annoying.25. Documents.DConflict is on the menu tonight at the café La Chope. This evening, as on every Thursday night, psycholog ist Maud Lehanne is leading two of France’s favorite pastimes, coffee drinking and the “talking cure”. Here they are learning to get in touch with their true feelings. It isn’t always easy. The customers-some thirty Parisians who pay just under $2 (plus drinks) per session-are quick to intellectualize (高谈阔论),slow to open up and connect. “You are forbidden to say ‘one feels,’ or ‘people think’,”Lehanne told them. “Say ‘I think,’ ‘Think me’.”A cafe society where no intellectualizing is allowed? It couldn’t s eem more un-French. But Lehanne’s psychology cafe is about more than knowing oneself: It’s trying to help the city’s troubled neighborhood cafes. Over the years, Parisian cafes have fallen victim to changes in the French lifestyle-longer working hours, a fast-food boom and a younger generation’s desire to spend more time at home. Dozens of new theme cafes appear to change the situation. Cafes focused around psychology, history, and engineering are catching on, filling tables well into the evening. The city’s “psychology cafes”, which offer great comfort, are among the most popular places. Middle-aged homemakers, retirees, and the unemployed come to such cafes to talk about love, anger, and dreams with a psychologist. And they come to Lehanne’s group just to learn to say what they feel. “There’s a strong need in Paris for communication,” says Maurice Frisch, a cafe La Chope regular who works as a religious instructor in a nearby church. “People have few real friends. And they need to open up.” Lehanne says she’d like to see psychology cafes all over France. “If people had normal lives, these cafes wouldn’t exist,” she says. “If life weren’t a battle, people wouldn’t need a special place just to s peak.” But then, it wouldn’t be France.32.What are people encouraged to do at the cafe La Chope?A. Learn a new subjectB. Keep in touch with friends.C. Show off their knowledge.D. Express their true feelings.33. How are cafes affected by French lifestyle changes?A. They have bigger night crowds.B. They stay open for longer hours.C. They are less frequently visited.D. They start to serve fast food.34. What are theme cafes expected to do?A. Save the cafe business.B. Supply better drinks.C. Create more jobs.D. Serve the neighborhood.35. Why are psychology cafes becoming popular in Paris?A. They bring people true friendship.B. They give people spiritual support.C. They help people realize their dreams.D. They offer a platform for business links.第二节(共5小题,每小题3分,满分15分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
