Step 1 Leading in

Do you have any problems in your daily life?

How do you solve them? Give some advice.

Look at the pictures, learn new phrases and try to give some advice.

Step 2 Presentation

Look at these problems. Do you think they are serious or not? Write them in appropriate

box.

1. I have to study too much so I don’t get enough sleep.

2. I have too much homework so I don’t have any free time to do things I like.

3. My parents don’t allow me to hang out with my friends.

4. I have too many after-school classes.

5. I got into a fight with my best friend.

Step 3 Listening

Listen and circle the problems you hear in 1a.

Step 4 Pair work

Look at the problems in 1a and make conversations.

A: What’s wrong?

B: I’m really tired because I studied until midnight last night.

A: Why don’t you go to sleep earlier this evening?.

Step 5 Group work

1. Work in groups. Everyone in the group should speak.

2. Discuss in groups. What’s your biggest problem in your life?

Then others give advice. Change the ways to give advice one by one.

Step 1 Revision

A: What’s wrong?

Say: I got into a fight with my best friend. Let Ss give as much advice as possible.

Step 2 Listening

Listen. Peter’s friend is giving him advice. Fill in the blanks with could or should.

Listen again. Why doesn’t Peter like his friend’s advice? Write the letters (a-e) next to the

advice in 2a.

Step 3 Pair work

2c Role-play a conversation between Peter and his friend.

I had too much homework to do, but Tom played his CDs too loud. What should I do?

I had a fight with my best friend. What should I do?

Step 4 Role play

Read the conversation in silence, answer these questons:

1. Who has a problem? What’s wrong with him?

2. Who is giving advice/ what’s his advice?

Read the conversation after the tape.

Now I want you to do a role play. Ss on the left are Dave, Ss on the right are Kim. I want

you to make conversations acccording to the picture. Then I’ll ask some pairs of Ss to

make a role play. I’ll give you four minutes.

Role-play the conversation.

Step 5 Summary

Today we have learnt how to talk about problems, and how to give advice to the people

who have trouble. All of you did a good job. And I want you to care for each other,

especially when others are in trouble.

Caring is good for you and the people around you. I hope all of us will live in a

harmonious world.

Step 6 Homework.

Recite new words, revise what we’ve learnt today and prepare for the new lesson.
