HD74AC283/HD74ACT2834-bit Binary Full Adder with Fast CarryADE-205-388 (Z)1st. EditionSep. 2000 DescriptionThe HD74AC283/HD74ACT283 high-speed 4-bit binary full adder with internal carry lookahead acceptstwo 4-bit binary works (A0 – A3, B– B3) and a Carry input (C). It generates the binary Sum outputs (S–S 3) and the Carry output (C4) from the most significant bit. The HD74AC283/HD74ACT283 will operatewith either active High or active Low operands (positive or negative logic). Features• Outputs Source/Sink 24 mA• HD74ACT283 has TTL-Cmpatible InputsPin ArrangementHD74AC283/HD74ACT2832Logic SymbolPin NamesA 0 – A 3 A Operand InputsB 0 – B 3 B Operand InputsC 0Carry Input S 0 – S 3Sum Outputs C 4Carry OutputFunctional DescriptionThe HD74AC283/HD74ACT283 adds two 4-bit binary words (A plus B) plus the incoming Carry (C 0).The binary sum appears on the Sum (S 0 – S 3) and outgoing carry (C 4) outputs. The binary weight of the various inputs and outputs is indicated by the subscript numbers, representing powers of two.20 (A 0 + B 0 + C 0) + 21 (A 1 + B 1) + 22 (A 2 + B 2) + 23 (A 3 + B 3) = S 0 + 2S 1 + 4S 2 + 8S 3 + 16C 4Where (+) = plusInterchanging inputs of equal weight does not affect the operation. Thus C 0, A 0, B 0 can be arbitrarily assigned to pins 5, 6 and 7 for DIPS. Due to the symmetry of the binary add function, the HD74AC283/HD74ACT283 can be used either with all inputs and outputs active High (positive logic) or with all inputs and outputs active Low (negative logic). See Figure a. Note that if C 0 is not used it must be tied Low for active High logic or tied High for active Low logic.Due to pin limitations, the intermediate carries of the HD74AC283/HD74ACT283 are not brought out for use as inputs or outputs. However, other means can be used to effectively insert a carry into, or bring a carry out from, an intermediate stage. Figure b shows how to make a 3-bit adder. Tying the operand inputs of the fourth adder (A 3, B 3) Low makes S 3 dependent only on, and equal to, the carry from the third ing somewhat the same principle Figure c shows a way of dividing the HD74AC283/HD74ACT283 into a 2-bit and a 1-bit adder. The third stage adder (A 2, B 2, S 2) is used merely as a means of getting a carry (C 10) signal into the fourth stage (via A 2 and B 2) and bringing out the carry from the second stage on S 2.Note that as long as A 2 and B 2 are the same, whether High or Low, they do not influence S 2. Similarly,when A 2 and B 2 are the same the carry into the third stage does not influence the carry out of the thirdHD74AC283/HD74ACT2833stage. Figure d shows a method of implementing a 5-input encoder, where the inputs are equally weighted.The outputs S 0, S 1 and S 2 present a binary number equal to the number of inputs I 1 – I 5 that are true. Figure e shows one method of implementing a 5-input majority gate. When three or more of the inputs I 1 – I 5 are true, the output M 5 is true.Fig. a Active HIGH varsus Active LOW InterpretationC 0A 0A 1A 2A 3B 0B 1B 2B 3S 0S 1S 2S 3C 4Logic levels L L H L H H L L H H H L L H Active HIGH 00101100111001Active LOW1111111Active HIGH: 0 + 10 + 9 = 3 + 16Active LOW: 1 + 5 + 6 = 12 + 0Fig. b 3-bit AdderFig. c 2-bit and 1-bit addersHD74AC283/HD74ACT283Fig. d 5-Input EncoderFig. e 5-Input Majority Gate 4HD74AC283/HD74ACT2835Logic DiagramDC Characteristics (unless otherwise specified)ItemSymbol Max Unit ConditionMaximum quiescent supply current I CC 80µA V IN = V CC or ground, V CC = 5.5 V,Ta = Worst caseMaximum quiescent supply current I CC 8.0µA V IN = V CC or ground, V CC = 5.5 V,Ta = 25°CMaximum I CC /input (HD74ACT283)I CCT1.5mAV IN = V CC – 2.1 V, V CC = 5.5 V,Ta = Worst caseHD74AC283/HD74ACT2836AC Characteristics: HD74AC283Ta = +25°C C L = 50 pFTa = –40°C to +85°C C L = 50 pF ItemSymbol V CC (V)*1Min Typ Max Min Max Unit Propagation delay t PLH3.3 1.011.515.0 1.016.5nsC 0 to S n5.0 1.09.511.5 1.012.5Propagation delay t PHL 3.3 1.010.514.0 1.015.5ns C 0 to S n5.0 1.08.510.5 1.011.5Propagation delay t PLH 3.3 1.014.017.0 1.018.5ns A n or B n to S n 5.0 1.011.513.5 1.014.5Propagation delay t PHL 3.3 1.013.516.5 1.018.0ns A n or B n to S n 5.0 1.011.013.0 1.014.0Propagation delay t PLH 3.3 1.09.512.5 1.015.5ns C 0 to C 45.0 1.07.59.5 1.010.5Propagation delay t PHL 3.3 1.010.013.0 1.014.0ns C 0 to C 45.0 1.08.010.0 1.011.0Propagation delay t PLH 3.3 1.011.514.5 1.016.0ns A n or B n to C 4 5.0 1.09.511.5 1.012.5Propagation delay t PHL 3.3 1.012.015.0 1.016.5ns A n or B n to C 4 5.01.010.012.01.013.0Note:1.Voltage Range 3.3 is 3.3 V ± 0.3 VVoltage Range 5.0 is 5.0 V ± 0.5 VHD74AC283/HD74ACT2837AC Characteristics: HD74ACT283Ta = +25°C C L = 50 pFTa = –40°C to +85°C C L = 50 pF ItemSymbol V CC (V)*1Min Typ Max Min Max Unit Propagation delay C 0 to S nt PLH 5.0 1.011.513.5 1.014.5ns Propagation delay C 0 to S nt PHL 5.0 1.010.012.0 1.013.0ns Propagation delay A n or B n to S n t PLH 5.0 1.013.015.0 1.016.5ns Propagation delay A n or B n to S n t PHL 5.0 1.012.014.0 1.015.5ns Propagation delay C 0 to C 4t PLH 5.0 1.09.011.0 1.012.0ns Propagation delay C 0 to C 4t PHL 5.0 1.010.012.0 1.013.0ns Propagation delay A n or B n to C 4t PLH 5.0 1.011.013.0 1.014.0ns Propagation delay A n or B n to C 4t PHL5.01.011.513.51.014.5nsNote:1.Voltage Range 5.0 is 5.0 V ± 0.5 VCapacitanceItemSymbol Typ Unit Condition Input capacitanceC IN 4.5pF V CC = 5.5 V Power dissipation capacitanceC PD60.0pFV CC = 5.0 VHD74AC283/HD74ACT283 Package Dimensions8HD74AC283/HD74ACT2839HD74AC283/HD74ACT28310Cautions1.Hitachi neither warrants nor grants licenses of any rights of Hitachi’s or any third party’s patent,copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights for information contained in this document.Hitachi bears no responsibility for problems that may arise with third party’s rights, includingintellectual property rights, in connection with use of the information contained in this document.2.Products and product specifications may be subject to change without notice. HD74ALVCH16227012-bit to 24-bit Registered Bus Exchanger with 3-state OutputsADE-205-178A (Z)2nd. EditionMarch 1998 DescriptionThe HD74ALVCH162270 is used in applications where data must be transferred from a narrow high speed bus to a wide lower frequency bus. The device provides synchronous data exchange between the two ports. Data is stored in the internal registers on the low to high transition of the clock (CLK) input when the appropriate CLKEN inputs are low. The select (SEL) line selects 1B or 2B data for the A outputs. For data transfer in the A to B direction, a two stage pipeline is provided in the A to 1B path, with a single storage register in the A to 2B path. Proper control of the CLKENA inputs allows two sequential 12-bit words to be presented synchronously as a 24-bit word on the B port. Data flow is controlled by the active low output enables (OEA, OEB). The control terminals are registered to synchronize the bus direction changes with CLK. Active bus hold circuitry is provided to hold unused or floating data inputs at a valid logic level. All outputs, which are designed to sink up to 12 mA, include 26 Ω resistors to reduce overshoot and undershoot.Features• V CC = 2.3 V to 3.6 V• Typical V OL ground bounce < 0.8 V (@V CC = 3.3 V, Ta = 25°C)• Typical V OH undershoot > 2.0 V (@V CC = 3.3 V, Ta = 25°C)• High output current ±12 mA (@V CC = 3.0 V)• Bus hold on data inputs eliminates the need for external pullup / pulldown resistors• All outputs have equivalent 26 Ω series resistors, so no external resistors are required.HD74ALVCH1622702Function TableInputs Outputs CLK OEA OEB A 1B, 2B ↑H H Z Z ↑H L Z Active ↑L H Active Z ↑LLActiveActiveOutput enableInputs Outputs CLKENA1CLKENA2CLK A 1B 2B X H ↑L 1B 0 *1, 22B 0 *1X H ↑H 1B 0 *1, 22B 0 *1L L ↑L L *2L L L ↑H H *2H H L ↑L 1B 0 *1L H L ↑H 1B 0 *1H HHXX1B 0 *12B 0 *1A-to-B storage (OEB = L)Note:This functional table describes the case of transferring the same data for A to 1B path.
