题图:夕照王府井story = 故事,这是英语学习者的通常联想,此联想未免有点狭隘,在一定程度上会束缚我们对story一词风采多姿的含义的认识和运用。
对于形形色色的事情,若一味使用thing或affair,行文会显得单调枯涩,甚至用词也欠当。
述及旧日往事(并非“子虚乌有”之事),使用story一词,既自然又贴切。
如:1/ 他正在撰写自己的生活简历。
He is writing the story of his life.2/ 她叙述了自己从日军手中逃生的经过。
She told the story of her narrow escape from the Japanese army.3/ 我知道她的身世。
I know her story.4/ 那天我没把实情全都告诉你。
I didn't really tell you the whole story the other day.5/ 她给我们讲述童年往事。
She tells us stories about her childhood.若以story取代words,用以表达各种各样的言辞,表达也会趋于自如。
需注意的是,此时的story常含“贬义”。
他说的这些话,听起来令人难以置信。
1/ His story sounds incredible.此人对事故的陈述不足信。
2/ The man's story of the accident was not convincing.我从一则新闻报道中听到此事。
3/ I heard it from a news story.有各种各样关于他的奇怪的传闻。
4/ Various strange stories are told about him.他编造谎言来解释这破碎的窗户。
5/ He cooked up a story to explain the broken window.story还常常是“不充分表意法”(understatement)修辞法的一个用词,借助story一词,使表达带有轻描淡写的色彩,含蓄委婉,且具有一定的幽默感。

秋天英语课堂上的趣味活动Fun Activities in the English Classroom during AutumnAutumn is a vibrant and beautiful season, with its colorful leaves and crisp cool air making it an ideal time to engage students in the English classroom. As a teacher, you can create a lively and enjoyable learning environment by incorporating fun activities that not only captivate students but also enhance their language skills. In this article, we will explore some exciting and interactive activities that can be conducted in the English classroom during autumn.1. Fall Vocabulary Scavenger HuntA scavenger hunt is an excellent way to introduce students to autumn-related vocabulary while encouraging teamwork and critical thinking. Divide the class into teams and provide each group with a list of autumn-related words such as "pumpkin," "harvest," "acorn," or "sweater." Explain that the teams must search for and find objects or pictures related to the given vocabulary. Allocate a specific amount of time and let the teams compete to see who can find the most items on the list. This activity not only boosts vocabulary retention but also promotes collaboration and enthusiasm for learning.2. Autumn Leaf ArtEmbrace the beauty of autumn by incorporating art into your English lessons. Collect some leaves of different colors and shapes and distribute them among the students. Ask them to carefully observe the leaves and describe their features using descriptive words. Then, encourage students tocreate artwork using the leaves as inspiration. They can make leaf rubbings, collage, or even paint using the colors and patterns they observe. As students work on their artwork, prompt them to discuss their creations in English, fostering language practice and creativity simultaneously.3. Fall-Themed StorytellingStorytelling is an effective method to improve language proficiency, cultivate imagination, and develop listening skills. During the autumn season, share classic or original fall-themed stories with your students. From tales about Halloween to narratives about the changing colors of the leaves, these stories will captivate their attention and spark their imagination. Afterward, encourage students to retell the story in their own words, emphasizing vocabulary, fluency, and creative expression. You can also divide the class into groups and have each group create their own fall-themed story, which they can share with their peers.4. Autumn Word PuzzlesWord puzzles are a fantastic way to engage students' critical thinking skills while expanding their vocabulary. Create autumn-themed word puzzles such as word searches or crossword puzzles using autumn-related vocabulary. Provide hints or definitions to guide students in locating the words or filling in the crossword grid. Encourage students to work individually or in pairs, fostering teamwork and collaboration. This activity not only challenges students intellectually but also reinforces their understanding of autumn-related terms.5. Harvest Festival CelebrationOrganize a mini harvest festival in your English classroom to immerse students in the autumn spirit. Encourage students to bring in and share traditional autumn treats such as apple pies, pumpkin bread, or caramel popcorn. Create an English-language display showcasing information about various harvest festivals celebrated around the world, including Thanksgiving. Engage students in discussions about these festivals and their cultural significance. This activity not only provides an opportunity for students to experience different cultures but also encourages communication in English.6. Autumn Haiku PoetryIntroduce your students to the beauty of Japanese poetry by teaching them how to write haikus. Explaining that haikus consist of three lines, with the syllable pattern of 5-7-5, task your students with writing autumn-themed haikus. Encourage them to focus on imagery and descriptive language to convey the essence of the season. Once the haikus are complete, give students an opportunity to share their creations with the class. This activity not only encourages creativity and self-expression but also reinforces syllable counting and mindfulness of language. In conclusion, autumn provides an ideal backdrop for engaging and enjoyable activities in the English classroom. By incorporating these interactive activities, teachers can create a vibrant and inspiring learning environment while fostering language development, creativity, and cultural understanding among their students. So, let your classroom come alive this autumn and embrace the beauty of the season through fun-filled English lessons!。

In the journey of learning English, vocabulary accumulation often poses a challenge for many learners. The task of remembering 3500 words can be daunting, but with the help of innovative and fun methods, this challenge can be turned into a delightful adventure. One such method is through the use of comic books, a medium that combines imagination, humor, and education to create a unique learning experience.Comic books are a powerful tool for vocabulary learning because they engage the reader's imagination and interest. By incorporating comics into their vocabulary learning routine, learners can turn the task of remembering words into an exciting quest. Each comic strip can feature a set of related words, with colorful illustrations and creative storylines that help solidify the meaning of the words in the reader's mind. For example, a comic strip about a busy city scene could introduce vocabulary related to transportation, such as "bus," "subway," and "taxi." The strip could depictvarious characters using these modes of transportation and engaging in interesting situations that illustrate the words' usage. By visualizing the words in a comic strip, learners can easily associate them with relevant images and stories, making the words easier to remember and retrieve. Moreover, comics allow learners to explore words in context. Instead of simply memorizing definitions, learners can understand how words are used in real-life situations. This contextual learning approach is more effective inlong-term memory retention as it helps learners build a deeper understanding of the words and their usage. The humor element of comics also plays a crucial role in making vocabulary learning enjoyable. Laughter and a sense of fun can break the monotony of studying and keep learners engaged. By incorporating humor into their learning routine, learners are more likely to maintaintheir motivation and interest, making the learning process more effective.Additionally, comics can be personalized to cater to different learning styles and interests. Learners can create their own comic strips featuring their favoritecharacters or themes, allowing them to connect more deeply with the vocabulary they are learning. This personalized approach can foster a sense of ownership and agency in the learning process, making it more meaningful and enjoyable. In conclusion, comics provide a unique and effectiveway to remember 3500 English words. 初中英语趣味教学案例范文Teaching English in middle school can be challenging, but incorporating fun and engaging activities can make the learning process more enjoyable for students. One interesting teaching case is a role-playing activity where students act out a short play in English. This can help students improve their speaking and listening skills while also encouraging them to use English in a creative and interactive way. Role-playing activities can make learning English more fun and engaging for students, as it allows them to step into the shoes of different characters and practice using English in a practical context.
Another way to make English learning more fun is through the use of games and competitions. For example, a vocabulary relay race where students have to run to the board and write down a word that matches a certain category can be both fun and educational. By incorporating games and competitions into the classroom, teachers can create a dynamic and interactive learning environment that motivates students to participate actively in the learning process. This can help students retain information more effectively and improve their overall language skills.通过游戏和比赛的方式可以使英语学习更加有趣。
