Welcome and thank you for choosing Bowers & Wilkins. Our founder, John Bowers, believed that imaginative design, innovative engineering and advanced technology were keys thatcould unlock the enjoyment of audio in the home. His belief is onethat we continue to share and inspires every product we design. This is a high performance product that rewards thoughtfulinstallation, so we suggest that you take some time to read thismanual before you begin. Continue on page 3Carton ContentsThe table above illustrates the component parts that are packed with the product. In the unlikely event that anything is missing please contact the retailer from whom you purchased the speakers. The tweeter assembly on 702 S3, 703 S3, 705 S3 and HTM71 S3 loudspeakers is a decoupled component that is mechanically isolated from the main part of the cabinet. As such, it may appear to be loose when the product is first removed from its packaging. This is not a fault: it is an inherent feature of the design and ensures optimum performance from your speaker.Environmental InformationThis product complies with international directives, including but not limited to:i. the R estriction of H azardous S ubstances (RoHS) inelectrical and electronic equipment,ii. the R egistration, E valuation, A uthorisation and restriction of CH emicals (REACH)iii. the disposal of W aste E lectrical and E lectronic E quipment (WEEE).Consult your local waste disposal authority for guidance on how properly to recycle or dispose of this product.34E N G L Speaker Installation702 S3 / 703 S3 / 704 S3702 S3, 703 S3 and 704 S3 are intended to be floor mountedonly. For proper stability, always install the provided plinth, thenensure that the speakers stand firmly on the floor using the spikeor rubber feet supplied. You may attach the plinth during the unpacking process, followingthe illustrations above or the diagrams on the top flap of thecarton.WarningThe plinth MUST always be used, with the rubber or spike feetinserted into the plinth. DO NOT insert rubber or spike feet directly into the cabinet.Note: Rubber feet installation is nearly identical to spike feetinstallation. The tommy bar and spanner are only includedand used with the 702 S3 model during spike / rubber feetinstallation.702 S35705 S3 / 706 S3 / 707 S3The 705 S3, 706 S3 and 707 S3 are primarily designed to be mounted on a dedicated floor stand (FS-700 S3), but may be placed on a shelf if preferred. However, it should be noted that this offers less flexibility to optimise the speaker’s performance. If shelf placement must be used, we recommend using the foam plugs (supplied) to optimise port performance (see Section 4: Fine-Tuning).In both installation cases, the speakers’ tweeters should be approximately at ear height at your usual listening position.Note: If using a shelf, ensure that it is strong enough to properly support the weight and fit the four self-adhesive rubber feet to the underside of the speaker.Important Safety NoticeSharp spikes, do not touch. The spike feet are designed to pierce carpet and rest on thefloor surface. Initially, screw the lock nuts onto the spikes justfar enough to leave the nuts floating just above the carpet whenthe spikes are resting on the floor beneath. Then, screw thespikes fully into the threaded inserts in the plinth. If the cabinetrocks when placed on the floor, unscrew the two spikes that donot touch the floor until the cabinet rests firmly without rocking. Finally, lock the nuts against the base by using the suppliedspanner to gently tighten the nut whilst using the supplied tommybar to stop the spike foot rotating. It may be more convenient tofit and adjust the spike feet after speaker positioning has beenoptimised. If there is no carpet and you wish to avoid scratching the floorsurface, use either a protective metal disc (a coin perhaps)between the spike and the floor, or use the supplied rubber feet.Fit the rubber feet and level the cabinet in the same manner aswith the spike feet.702703, 704705, 706, 7076E N GSpeaker Positioning In either stereo or home theatre installations, try to ensure that the immediate surroundings of each speaker are similar in acoustic character. For example, if one speaker is adjacent to bare walls while the other is adjacent to soft furnishings and curtains, both the overall sound quality and the stereo image are likely to be compromised.Conventional Stereo SystemsTo begin with, the speakers should be positioned between 1.5mand 3m apart at two corners of an equilateral triangle completedby the listening area at the third corner. The speakers should beplaced at least 0.5m away from the back and any side walls (asper the illustration above).HTM71 S3 / HTM72 S3If using a projection television with an acoustically transparentscreen, position the speaker behind the centre of the screen.Otherwise, position it either directly below or above the screenusing either a floor stand, furniture unit or wall shelf, ensuring thespeaker is as close to ear height as possible. If the speaker isto be placed either on a shelf or in a rack shared with other AVequipment, fix the four self-adhesive rubber feet to the base ofthe speaker. They provide a degree of vibration isolation.7Home Theatre SystemsIf the speakers are to be used for the front channels in a hometheatre system, they should be placed closer together than for2-channel audio, because the surround channels tend to widenthe image. Positioning the speakers within approximately 0.5mof the sides of the screen will also help keep the sound imagein scale with the visual image. As with conventional stereopositioning, the speakers should ideally be at least 0.5m awayfrom any side walls.Stray Magnetic Fields The speaker drive units create stray magnetic fields that extend beyond the boundaries of the cabinet. We recommend you keep magnetically sensitive articles (CRT television and computer screens, computer discs, audio and video tapes, swipe cards and the like) at least 0.5m from the speaker. LCD, OLED and plasmascreens are not affected by magnetic fields.5 Channels 7 Channels8Important Safety NoticeAll connections should be made with the audioequipment switched off. When using audio equipmentin normal operation, touching uninsulated speakerterminals or wiring may result in an unpleasant sensation. The700 S3 speaker terminals accept a variety of cable terminations:4mm banana plugs, 6mm and 8mm (1/4 in and 5/16 in) spades, or bare wires up to 4mm (5/32 in) diameter.Important Safety NoticeIn certain countries, notably those in Europe, the useof 4mm banana plugs is considered a potential safetyhazard, because they may be inserted into the holesof unshuttered mains supply sockets. In order to comply withEuropean CENELEC safety regulations, the 4mm holes in theends of the terminals are blocked by plastic pins. If you are usingthe products in any country where these conditions apply, youshould ensure that any banana plugs cannot be used in an unsafemanner by children or other uninformed persons. The plastic pins can be removed if you wish to use banana plugs. Ask your dealer for advice when selecting speaker cable. Keep its total impedance below the maximum recommended in the speaker specification and use a low inductance cable to avoid attenuation of high frequencies. There are two linked pairs of terminals on the back of the speaker. For conventional connection (above left), the terminal links should remain in place (as delivered) and just one pair of terminals connected to the amplifier. For bi-wire connections or bi-amplification (above right), the terminal links should be removed and each pair of terminals connected to the amplifier or amplifiers independently. Bi-wiring can improve the resolution of low-level detail.Ensure that the positive terminals on the speaker (with red ring) are connected to the positive output terminal on the amplifier and the negative terminals on the speaker (with black ring) are always connected to the negative output terminal on the amplifier. Incorrect connection will not result in damage but will cause poorstereo imaging and loss of bass. Always screw the terminal capsdown fully to prevent rattles.3. Connections-L F-L F Conventional ConnectionBi-Wired Connection9If no alternatives exist, you can adjust your loudspeakers’ low-frequency performance using the supplied foam plugs. The plugs are a two-piece part, allowing for a degree of fine-tuning using either the outer, larger-diameter piece in isolation or the two parts together. Using solely the outer, larger-diameter foam piece will deliver less bass attenuation than the complete plug assembly. If the central image lacks focus, try moving the speakers closer together or angle them inward so that they point at a location just in front of the listening position. If the sound is too bright, increasing the amount of soft furnishing in the room (heavier curtains for example) may help balance the sound. Conversely, reducing the amount of soft furnishing may help brighten a dull sound. For the most discerning listening, remove the grilles by gripping around their edges and gently pulling them away from the cabinet. Before fine-tuning, make sure that all the connections in theinstallation are correct and secure.Moving the speakers further from the walls will generally reducethe volume of bass. Space behind the speakers will also helpto create an aural impression of depth. Conversely, moving thespeakers closer to the walls will increase the volume of bass.If you want to reduce the volume of bass without moving thespeakers further from the wall, fit the foam plugs or, for lesssevere bass reduction, the foam rings in the port tubes (above). If the bass seems uneven with frequency this will most probablybe due to resonance modes in the listening room. Even smallchanges in the position of the speakers or the listening positioncan have a profound effect on how these resonances affect thesound. Try moving the listening position or locating the speakersalong a different wall. The presence and position of large piecesof furniture can also influence resonance modes.4. Fine-Tuning10The cabinet surfaces will usually only require dusting. We recommend you use a soft microfibre cloth. If you wish to use an aerosol or other cleaner, apply the cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto the product, and test a small area first, as some cleaning products may damage some of the surfaces. Avoid products that are abrasive, or contain acid, alkali or anti-bacterial agents. Do not use cleaning agents on the drive units. Avoid touching the drive units as damage may result.Whenever Bowers & Wilkins speakers are finished in real wood, the finest veneers are selected and treated with an ultra-violetresistant lacquer to minimise changes in colour over time.Nevertheless, like all natural materials, the veneer will respond toits environment and a degree of colour change is to be expected.Colour differences may be rectified by exposing all the veneersurfaces equally and evenly to sunlight until the colour is uniform. This process can take several days or even weeks, but may beaccelerated by careful use of an ultra-violet lamp. Wood veneeredsurfaces should also be kept away from direct sources of heatsuch as radiators and warm air vents in order to minimise thepossibility of the wood veneer cracking. The tweeter housing has a textured finish that may collectsuperficial marks when handled. It can be cleaned by wiping asoft microfibre cloth around the housing, in line with the surfacetexture. The performance of the speaker will change subtly during theinitial listening period. If the speaker has been stored in a coldenvironment, the damping compounds and suspension materialsof the drive units will take some time to recover their correctmechanical properties. The drive unit suspensions will also loosenup during the first hours of use. The time taken for the speaker toachieve its intended performance will vary depending on previousstorage conditions and how it is used. As a guide, allow up toa week for the temperature effects to stabilise and 15 hours ofaverage use for the mechanical parts to attain their intendeddesign characteristics.5. Running In 6. Grills are activated by in and out airflow. The outdoor impact is further reduced, no intrusion of dust, noise and insects... and less after sales service. The drain pan is constantly warmed up so to avoid any risk of icing of condensate drain during winter time, in heat pump mode.“..2.0” a in heat pump , with condensate drain pipe. It is now possible to replace a standard radiator, with the advantage to have now the perfect comfort both in summer and in winter. To install “..2.0 + FCU” is extremely easy: once the old radiator is removed, the existing niche is occupied by “..2.0 + FCU” thanks to two holes in the wall and some simple connections to the existing hot water pipes. In winter time, heating is supplied by the heat pump functioning mode; when outdoor temperaturesdecrease, “..2.0 + FCU” automatically integrates heat pump functioning with fancoil, so to maintain the set temperature. OPEN-PATH GAS DETECTION SYSTEMWe INVENTED it... We PERFECTED it!Patent No. US 5,281,816; US 6,061,141; EP 0584389S af EyeThis scenario shows how the matrix of point type detectors can miss a leak or eventually only see diluted gas levels whereas SafEye 700 Open-Path will, in this case, measure 20% LEL x 7 m = 1.4 LEL.m - well above 1 LEL.m alarm level METERSNot all gas clouds are hazardous - only if a flammable gas cloud or plume is wide enough to allow flame acceleration to speeds greater than 100 m/sec does it become a significant threat.•Just as an athlete performing the long jump needs a run-up distance, so too a flame front needs distance to reach the velocities which cause the damaging effects of over-pressure, pressure pulse and windage.•The generally accepted quantity of gas that creates the potential to cause consequential damage if ignited is a cloud of the size 5 m diameter a stoichiometric concentration (about 200% LEL).•To provide a safety margin, this concentration is halved to 100% LEL. Thus an open path beam traversing this cloud would indicate 5 LEL.m.• Location of the SafEye 700 Open-Path Gas Detector is less important than with point type detectors as it provides a warning alarm from a diluted gas cloud and does not need to be close to the leakage source.•Point type detectors measure gas at their location in terms of % LEL, whereas open-path gas detectors measure the amount of gas anywhere along the length of the path, in terms of the integral of concentration and length (LEL x meters).Open-path Gas Detection Concepts LEL.7m wide cloud20% LELSafEye Detector SafEye Source40% LEL70% LEL10% LEL10% LELPoint type Detectors40-meter pathLEL.metersDetector output = gas cloud length (m) x gas cloud concentration (LEL)The unit of measurement is LEL.meters:100% LEL of the gas = 1 LEL 1 LEL.meter = 1 LEL x 1 meter Therefore:20 m x 5%LEL = 1 LEL.meter 1 m x 100%LEL = 1 LEL.meter 10 m x 10%LEL = 1 LEL.meter2•Proven TechnologyThe NEW SafEye Version is based on proven technology and performance. Thousands of first generation Flash Type SafEye are installed on offshore platforms, FPSO's, refineries, and other onshore applications operated by British Petroleum (BP), Shell, ExxonMobil, Statoil, and others.•One-Person Commissioning and InstallationOne person can simply and easily align and commission SafEye with separate horizontal and vertical adjustments.•Fast ResponseDirect reading, high sensitivity and fast response (3 sec) ensures instant action and maximum safety.•Harsh EnvironmentWell-proven in harsh environments (rain, snow, fog, hot and humid weather), up to 90% beam blockage, an excellent operational record in many installations worldwide.-Heated Optics on the source and detector increase the temperature of the optical surface to reduce icing, condensation and snow.-Resilient and excellent performancewithstanding extreme vibrations, displacement and shock.-Solar blind and immune to false alarms from industrial environments.Integrates well-proven and superior Xenon Flash technology which has an excellent operational record in manyinstallations ranging from the deserts of Africa and Asia and the very hot and humid Far East, to the wet and cold North Sea and the dry and cold regions of Alaska.•Detects a Wide Range of Gases Reliable detection of gas leaks including a wide range of gaseous hydrocarbons, such as:Alkanes, Alkenes (C1-C8), Alcohols, LNG, LPG,Ethylene, etc.•Cost EffectiveLess units needed for protection compared with point type detection. One system can replace from 5 to 20 point gas detectors. Low cost of ownership, much lower installation cost!•Large Misalignment Tolerance Provides relatively wide angle of view, better than 1˚, to withstand vibration, mechanical shock and displacements.•Standard Interface OptionsStandard 4-20 mA output with a new mode (3 mA) “Maintenance call” or RS-485, Modbus-compatible output to allow networking (up to 256 detectors) to a central monitoring / PC system. This feature also enables easymaintenance, local and remote diagnostic tools.•No Poisoning EffectElectro-optical system, not affected by chemicals.•Rugged StructureStainless steel 316L, IP66/67, Zone 1 ready design.TYPICALAPPLICATIONSOil RigsSafEye Open Path Gas Detection System provides alarm and shutdown signals that enable emergency and preventive measures.FPSO VesselsSafEye Open Path Systems protect duct, air intakes and HVAC providing warning and alarm in case of migration of dangerous gas concentrations.Onshore Oil & Gas IndustryMany process and storage areas in the modern refinery are protected by the SafEye systems.Process Plants & PipelinesLNG/LPG, Polymers or toxic substances like Ammonia or Benzene, are being monitored by the SafEye system that detects at LEL or PPM levels.PRODUCTDESCRIPTIONThe SafEye 700 Optical Open Path (Line-of-Sight) Gas Detection Systememploys “spectral fingerprint” analysisof the atmosphere using the DifferentialOptical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) technique in a unique (patented) method. SafEye 700 consists of an advanced Xenon Flash infrared transmitter (source) and infrared detector (receiver), separated over a line of sight from 13 ft. (4 m) up to 460 ft. (140 m) to detect and quantify flammable gas presence, even when challenged by extremely harsh environments where dust, fog, rain, snow or vibration can cause a high reduction of signal. The SafEye 700 analyzes atmospheric absorption at three selected spectral bands, two in a region where the target gas absorbs and one where it does not absorb. The ratio between these absorption lines can provide accurate information of the gas concentration along an optical path. The reference sensor detects beam blockage, compensates for changing humidityand detects failed light source or dirty optics.SafEye’s source and detector units are both housed in low profile, rugged, stainless steel, ATEX approved enclosures. The main enclosure is approved EExd flameproof with an integral, segregated, EExe increased safety terminal section. The hand-held communication unit can be connected in-situ via the intrinsically safe approved (EExia) data port on the detector. The combined ATEX approval is therefore Ex II 2(1) GD, EExde ia [ia] IIC T5 (55˚C).SafEye 700 includes heated optics on the transmitter (source) and receiver (detector) to address icing, condensation and snow. Modern accessories include an Intrinsically Safe approved, Hand-Held Unit which is an all-in-one Diagnostic / Calibration / Interrogation plug-in unit that assists one-person installation and maintenance.PRODUCTElectrical Specifications24 VDC nominal (18-32 VDC)Detector: 150mA (300 mA Peak)Source: 100mA (300 mA Peak)2 x 3/4" - 14NPT conduits or 2 x M25 x 1.5 mm ISO According to MIL-STD-1275B EMI/RFI protected CE MarkedPower SupplyPower Consumption(peak includes heated optics)Electrical Connection (specify)Electric Input Protection Electromagnetic CompatibilityDetection RangeResponse TimeImmunity to False Alarm Spectral Response Sensitivity RangeDisplacement/Misalignment Tolerance DriftTemperature Range WarrantyGeneral SpecificationsModel 701702703721722723ft 13 - 6650 - 230165 - 46013 - 6650 - 230165 - 460m 4 - 2015 - 7050 - 140 4 - 2015 - 7050 - 140Detected gasC 1-C 8EthyleneT90 - 3 secNot influenced by solar radiation, hydrocarbon flames and other external IR radiation sources 2.0 - 4.0 μm.0 - 5 LEL.m (optional 0 - 2 LEL.m)±1˚Long term ±5% of full scale -40˚F (-40˚C) to 131˚F (55˚C)SafEye system - 3 yearsFlash source bulb - 10 yearsThe detectors are available with SIL2 approval and HART protocol (SafEye 700S Series). First one micro switch will act to switch on the power supply to the motor to make the motor run, then the other micro switch will act will send signal that material is in shortage; as long as the rotation of the vanes will not be blocked by the materials, this work status will be always maintained.3、Outline dimensions:1) Outline dimensions ( Figure 1)2) Outline dimensions (Figure 2):4、Main technical specification:5、Type selection of damped rotation type level control system:Thread connectionFlange connectionLength6、Installation guideline:Unit: mmSilo wallTailor-made dimension may be available upon client’s request!。
