You must be pleased. After all how many students are lucky enough to have been accepted at their first and their second choices?*Not many I know. But I'm not sure yet which one to choose.*Well, you seem to have doubts about the state university. But its biology department has a fine reputation. What more could a biology major want?*Yeah. And they also have internships for seniors. But a friend told me that for the first two years some lectures have a hundred and fifty students. You probably wouldn't get to know any of your teachers.*Well, you might actually. Because those classes also have small discussion sections. Twice a week, and have no more than twenty students.*I know. But I've heard that they are usually taught by graduate students. At White Stone College all classes are taught by professors.*What about Sating? Do you prefer a small town like White Stone? Or a bigger place like the state capital?*That doesn't matter to me. What I do care about is getting individual attention fromthe faculty than making friends.*Look, I've known you for four years now and you seen to be a pretty outgoing person. I don't think you have any trouble making friends at the state university. It sounds to me that you are learning toward White Stone though?*I am. The only problem is that the White Stone's tuition is really high and I'm not sure I can afford it.*You could still apply for a student loan or sign up for a work-study program.*Yeah. I think I'll look into that.31. Why did the man go to see the woman?(A) To apply for a student loan.(B) To discuss a decision he has to make.(C) To ask for a letter of recommendation.(D) To find out which colleges accepted him.32. What concern does the man have about the state university?(A) The laboratories are not well equipped.(B) The classes are too large.(C) It's too expensive.(D) It's too far away from home.33. What does the man consider to be an advantage of the White Stone College?(A) It has a beautiful campus.(B) Professors regularly publish their results.(C) It's in an urban setting.(D) Faculty members interact with students.34. What is the man likely to do in the near future?(A) Investigate borrowing money for college.(B) Choose a new major.(C) Accept an internship at the state university.(D) Look for a job as a biologist.35-39 Conversation between two students.*Hi, Claire. How does it feel to be back on campus?*Keach, hi. Well, to tell you the truth, I have mixed feelings.*Oh, why?*I have this great summer job that I really hated to leave. I worked at the wild life research center in Maryland.*That makes sense for a genetic major. What did you do? Clean the cages?*This is a wild life center, not a zoo. This place breeds endangered species and tries to prepare them for life in the wild.*You mean the endangered species like the tiger and the panda?*Well, endangered species, yes. But not tigers or pandas. I was working with whooping cranes andsand tail cranes. It was really neat. I taught the baby crane how to eat and drink, and I help the vet to give medical check-ups.*I can see why it was hard to leave that job. But how did you teach a bird how to eat and drink?*We covered ourselves up with clothes and used puppets made out of stuffed cranes to show the baby chicks what to do. Then the chicks copied what the puppets did.*Clothes? Puppets? Sounds like fun.*It was. The clothes and puppets are the key tool of this. We all covered ourselves up, the scientists, the vets, the genial stock, everybody. You see, baby cranes will become attached to their care-takers.*So if the care-taker is a person, the crane will stay in places where people are.*Yeah. And their chances for survival aren't very good. But by covering ourselves and by using birds puppets the chicks are more likely to seek out other birds rather than people. And their transition to the wild has a better chance of being successful.*A chance of being successful? Hasn't this been done before?*It's been done with sand tail cranes and everyone is optimistic about its work with whooping cranes too.*Yeah. It's exciting, isn't that?35. Why does the woman say she has a mixed feelings?(A) She wasn't quite ready to come back to campus.(B) There are more endangered species in zoos than in the wild.(C) The birds won't learn to keep away from people.(D) She might change her major.36. What was the woman's job?(A) Counting wildlife.(B) Cleaning cages.(C) Training baby birds.(D) Making puppets.37. Why does the man mention the tigers and pandas?(A) He once had a job in a zoo.(B) They're familiar examples of endangered species.(C) He's interesting in the genetics of mammals.(D) They also become attached to humans.39. Another innovation was in building technique. In 1885 the steel skeleton was introduced and allowed for the construction of tall building that could withstand high winds. We take for granted some of the other inventions that enabled people to live and work in skyscrapers. For example, few people realized that the telephone was necessary for vertical communication and that flush toilet and vacuum incinerator made waste disposal possible. Now as we entered the age of super skyscraper, some with more than 200 floors, we see the need for even more technological innovations. In the area of heating and cooling systems for example. For all their benefits, these super tall building do cause problems though. For one thing they place enormous train on parking and traffic row in urban areas. But let's leave behind these technical concerns and move on to consider some of the design elements that have come to characterize the age of the skyscraper.40. What does the professor mainly discuss?(A) The development of the modern skyscraper.(B) The skyscraper's effect on urban areas.(C) Problems with future skyscraper construction.(D) Safety regulations for skyscraper design.41. You also will have to be watching out constantly for people who aren't skiing safely, or who may think they are better skiers than they really are. And to help those who are injured, you'll have to know basic first aid. Tomorrow you will begin training in a first aid system that skiers specifically to the outdoors. We pride ourselves in our ability to get people off the mountain quickly and safely. OK, so you are free to explore the slopes for the test of the day. All in all, I think that being a ski patroller is great job I hope you will all feel the same way.43. This green is unusual in the high plains area where the climate is very dry. These green patches are the result of a new technique for mining the underground water. In this technique, miners bore deep holes in the ground until they reach a special geological formation called ocheropher. The water which has collected in this ocherophers for hundreds of years in called fossil water or ground water. It pumped up through the bored hole and spray over the land to irrigate the crops. Raising crops such as cotton and wheat, water in this way creates the fertile green areas that contrasts vividly with thenatural brown of the plains. Crop yields have increase dramatically. However they've created a serious environmental problem. The problem is that the water is being removed from many ocherophers faster than it can be replenished naturally. Ground water levels have dropped rapidly and it's becoming more difficult and expensive to get this water. In some parts of Texas, water levels in some of the ocherophers have declined cess of using water faster than it can be replaced is wide-spread and serious.47. What does the speaker mainly discuss?(A) The geological features of Nebraska and Texas.(B) Fluctuations in rainfall amounts in the desert.(C) An inventive(发明的) irrigation method.(D) A new solution to an environmental problem.48. What benefits have resulted from the technique?(A) New varieties of corn have been developed.(B) The crops need less fertilizer(肥料).(C) Farmers can now monitor crop growth.(D) Crop yields are much greater.49. What is happening to ground water?(A) It's being drained(减少,耗尽,排干) from Nebraska to Texas.(B) It's being pumped out.(C) It's becoming contaminated with oil.(D) It's becoming much warmer.50. What does the speaker imply about ground water?50. (A) It can be seen from an airplane.(B) It's most likely polluted.(C) It's usually a bright green color.(D) The supply may be exhausted soon.。
Task 1Do you think college students should be allowed to keep pets in their dorm?I would no pets should be allowed in campus dorms, cuz dorm is supposed to be a quiet place, where students can get some rest from whole day's study, and pets are generally very messy and noisy, and some people are allergic to them. Additionally, going to college costs a lot and one should prioritize their role as a student and maintain a high GPA, everything else comes after that, I would suggest students should leave the animals home, and I think it is kind of fair to pets, cuz college are busy, one does not have enough time to be with the pets.Task 2Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:current celebrities (like musicians, actor/actress, athlete) set a good example as role model the young people.Personally, celebrities generally do set a good example for the younger generation. Take Kobe Bryant for example, he works very hard to be a better basketball player, he is so determined to win the game that he never gives up even when his team is about to lose, and I think his willpower and perseverance are contagious, teenagers can learn a lot from him. Additionally, despite of his busy schedule as a player, he sometime volunteers in local school and teaches theselittle kids how to play basketball. The kids can also learn agood lesson here, since we should care and reach out to the community.2020年1月9号托福口语题目解析二。

But I'm having trouble finding enough information.W: You know, we were talking about sources of fuel in my class today.M: Yeah?W: Prof Collins. He's an authority on energy sources. He was telling us about a new way of getting fuel oil from coal.M: I didn't know that was possible.W: He said something about coal being set on fire and blasted with a mixture of steam and oxygen. This process produces a gas made up of hydrogen and carbon, the ...hum, the basic elements of oil.M: And then they do something to change that gas to oil?W: Right. First, since coal contains fewer hydrogen atoms than oil, they have to add some extra hydrogen to the gas. Then impurities are washed out with methanol, I think, before this gas is sent on to reactors where it's changed into oil.M: Since coal is so plentiful I guess it won't be long till this new type of oil will be available all over the place, ah?W: I doubt it. Prof. Collins said something about the process not be economically enough to use in this country. At any rate, you really ought to talk to him. The professor is discussing a musical theater production. It may seem strange that we're discussing music from a Broadway production in this class, "The Lion King" especially, since it's based on a popular Hollywood movie. I mean music performed for Broadway theater in the heart of New York City surely would seem to be in the western tradition of popular music and not have much in common with the music we've been studying in this course, such as gamelan music of Indonesia, or Zulu chants of South Africa–musicthat developed outside the western tradition of Europe and America. But in fact, musicians have a longstanding tradition of borrowing from one another's cultures. And this production's director intentionally included both western and non-western music. That way, some of the rhythms, instruments, harmonies typical of non-western music contrast with and complement popular music more familiar to audiences in North America and Europe, music like rock, jazz or Broadway style show tunes. So I want to spend the rest of this class and most of the next one on the music from the show "The Lion King" as a way of summarizing some of the technical distinctions between typical western music and the non-western music thatwe've been studying. Now the African influence on the music is clear, the story takes place in Africa. So the director got a South African composer to write songs with a distinctly African sound. And the songs even include words from African languages. But we'll get back to the African influence later. First let's turn to the music that was written for the shadow puppet scenes in "The Lion King", music based on the Indonesian music used in the shadow puppet theater of that region.39.What is the talk mainly about?(A) The influence of European popular music on non-Western music.(B) The musical background of the director of the Broadway version of The Lion King(C) The types of music used in the Broadway version of The Lion King.King.40.What can be inferred about most of the music the students have studied in the course?(A) It was performed by the Zulu people of South Africa.(B) It developed outside the musical traditions of Europe.(D) The students heard it performed in New York City.41.Why were African words included in some songs for the Broadway version of "The Lion King"?(A) The director is of African ancestry.(B) The director wanted the songs in the Broadway version to be identical to the songs in the film.(C) The Broadway version was first performed in Africa.(D) The story takes place in Africa.42. What will the professor probably talk about next?(A) A type of music that originated in Indonesia.(C) The plot of The Lion King(D) Popular rock andjazz music performed in The Lion King.Questions 43-46 Listen to part of a talk in a class on the history of science. In ancient times, many people believed the earth was a flat disc. Well over 2,000 years ago, theancient Greek philosophers were able to put forward two good arguments proving that it was not.Direct observation of heavenly bodies was the basis of both these arguments. First, the Greeks knewthat during eclipses of the moon, the earth was between the sun and the moon, and they saw that duringthese eclipses, the earth's shadow on the moon was always round, they realized that this could be trueonly if the earth was spherical. If the earth were a flat disc, then its shadow during eclipses would notbe a perfect circle, it would be stretched out into a long ellipse. The second argument was based onwhat the Greeks saw during their travels. They noticed that the North Star, or Polaris, appeared lower inthe sky when they traveled south, in more northerly regions, the North Star appeared to them to bemuch higher in the sky. By the way, it was also from this difference in the apparent position of theNorth Star that the Greeks first calculated the approximate distance around the circumference of theearth, a figure recorded in ancient documents says 400,000 stadia, that's the plural of the word stadium.Today, it's not known exactly what length one stadium represents, but let's say it was about 200 meters, the length of many athletic stadiums. This would make the Greek's estimate about twice the figureaccepted today, a very good estimate for those writing so long before even the fast telescope wasinvented.43.What is the talk mainly about?(A) How ancient philosophers measured the distance between heavenly bodies.(B) How ancient philosophers explained the cause of an eclipse of the Moon.(C) Why ancient philosophers thought the Earth was a sphere.44.According to the professor, what were, the beliefs of the Greek philosophers based upon?(A) How the natural world was described in Greek mythology.(B) What they observed directly.(D) Measurements made with scientific instruments.45.What does the professor say about ancient Greeks who traveled south?(A) They noticed an apparent change in the position of the North Star.(C) They were the first to estimate the distance between heavenly bodies.(D) They wanted to prove that the Earth was flat.46.What does the professor say the term stadium refers to?(A) A place for making astronomical observations.(B) An instrument used for observing stars.(C) A unit of measurement.(D) The North Star.Questions 47-50. Listen to the beginning of a lecture given by a history professor.Good morning, class. Before we begin today, I would like to address an issue that one of you reminded me of after the last lecture. As you may recall, last time I mentioned that Robert E. Peary was the first person to reach the North Pole. Umm, what I neglected to mention was the controversy around Peary's pioneering accomplishment. In 1910, a committee of the national geographical society examined Commodore Peary's claim to have reached the North Pole on April 6th1909 and found no reason to doubt him. This judgment was actually confirmed by a committee of the US Congress in 1911. Nevertheless, Peary's claim was surrounded by controversy. This was largely due to the competing claim of Doctor Frederic Cook who told the world he had reached the Pole a four-year earlier. Over the decades Peary was given the benefit of the doubt, but critics persisted in raising questions about his navigation and the distances he claimed to have covered. So the Navigation Foundation spent an additional 12 months of exhaustive examination of documents relating to Peary's polar expedition. The documents supported Peary's claims about the distances he covered. After also conducting an extensive computer analysis of photos taken by Peary at the pole, they concluded that Pierre and his companions did in fact reach the near vicinity of the North Pole on April 6th, 1909. OK, today we're going to talk about exploration of the opposite end of the world. I assume you all read chapter 3 in our text and are now familiar with the names: Emerson and Scott.47.Why did the professor mention the controversy surrounding Peary?(A) One of the students asked him about it in the previous class.(C) He had just read Dr. Frederick Cock's travel log.(D) The students were required to read about it for that day's class.48.What did Doctor Cook maintain?(A) That Peary had announced his success prematurely.(B) That the investigation of Peary's expedition wasn't thorough.(C) That Peary wasn't an experienced explorer.(D) That he had reached the pole before Peary did.49.How did the experts determine that Peary reached the North Pole?(A) They talked to one of Peary's companions.(B) They interviewed Peary.(C) They conducted a computer analysis of photographs.(D) They examined Peary's navigation tools.50.Which topic will most probably be included in the continuation of today's lecture?(A) Dr. Cook's expedition.(B) The conclusions of the Navigation Foundation.(C) Exploration of the Equator.(D) Exploration of the South Pole.。

Test 1Television, although not essential, has become an important part of most peopled lives. It alters peopled ways of seeing the world; in many ways, it supports and sustains modern life. Television has become a baby-sitter, an introducer of conversations, the major transmitter of culture, a keeper of tradition. Yet what can be seen on TV in one day is critically analyzed. It becomes evident that television is not a reader be a sustainer; the poor quality of programmers does not elevate people into greater understanding, but rather maintains and encourages the life as it exists. The primary reason for the lack of quality in American television is related to both the history of TV program development and the economics of TV. The close relationship which the advertisers had with radio programs became the system for American TV. Sponsors not only paid money for time within programs, but many actually produced the programs.Test 101-05 C D A B D 06-10 B A B A B11-15 A D C B A 16-20 A B B D C21-25 D B B C A 26-30 D A A A ATest 2DictationOpportunityOpportunities don^t come often. They come every once in a while. Very often, hey come quietly and go by without being noticed. Therefore, it's advisable that you should value and treat them with care. When an opportunity comes, it brings a promise but never realizes it on its own. If you intend to fulfill one of your ambitions, you must work hard. /Otherwise, you will take no advantage of opportunities when they visit you. /The difference between a successful man and one who is not lies only in their way of treating opportunities. The successful person always makes adequate preparations to meet opportunities. The loser, on the other hand, works little and just waits to see them pass by. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone in our society, but only those who are prepared adequately and qualified highly can make use of them to achieve their purpose. For this reason alone, throughout the past and into modern day, numerous customs and superstitions have developed around the wedding event, in hopes of creating "The Perfect Day”. A very common custom still honored today is in reference to a time-old saying: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence inside your shoe. So old is this that tracing it back to its origination is nearly impossible. The "old” is believed to be the friends and family attending the wedding. The n new n is represented by the couple themselves, as a n new u union. The "borrowed” is something from the families that is to be returned. Something "blue” is interpreted to represent the bride's virginity. /The sixpence can be any form of money, tucked into the bride's shoe, this to bring wealth to the union, both in monetary means and love.Test 301-05 B D D A C 06-10 C A D B B 11-15 B A D B D 16-20 c A B C A21-25 C B C D A 26-30 B D B C ATest 4There are very often strong opinions expressed about what makes a good wine. At a simple level, a good wine is one that you enjoy drinking. But why do you prefer one wine to another? To judge a wine there are three basic senses that have to be employed: the sense of sight, the sense of smell, and the sense of taste. Of these three, taste is by far the most complex, but sight and smell are powerful. The wrong color or the wrong smell enables a wine to be discarded without taste even being involved. Havingexamined the wine, you can now get on and drink it. But try and remember your conclusions, for it is only by building up your own personal taste bank memory that you can progress as a wine taster. It is not difficult, and it is great fun. Historical evidence shows that people who lived over 3,000 years ago ate salted fish. Thousands of years ago in Egypt, salt was used to embalm the dead. Stealing salt was considered a major crime during some eras of history. In the 18th century, if a person was caught stealing salt, he could be put in jaiL Salt was an important item on the table of royalty. It was traditionally placed in front of the King when he sat down to eat. In the early days in the U.S-, salt was very scarce. So the storekeeper of pioneer days was very careful with his salt. People of the same rank may frankly to one another about how things are going. However, they may be less honest with someone higher up in the hierarchy for fear of prejudicing their position in the company. For this reason employees often alter the facts to tell the boss what he or she wants to hear. One way of reducing social distance is to cut down the ways in which employees can indicate higher status. Physical distance can affect how well people communicate. The farther away one person is from another, the less often they communicate. Some research has shown that when the distance is more than 10 meters, the probability of communicating at least once a week is only 8%. The most important thing for all managers to remember is that communication is a two-way process. They should encourage their employees to ask questions and to react to what the managers are saying.Test 801-05 D B A B C 06-10 C C D B C11-15 C C B B B 16-20 A C D B A21-25 D C A C C 26-30 A B B B CTest 8SleepSleep is part of a person's daily activity cycle. There are several different stages of sleep, and they too occur in cycles. If you are an average sleeper, your sleep cycle is as follows. When you first drift off into sleep, your eyes will roll about a bit, your temperature will drop slightly, your muscles will relax, and your breathing will slow and become quite regular. Your brain waves slow down a bit, too, with a rhythm of rather fast waves predominating for the first few minutes. This is called Stage 1 sleep. For the next half hour or so, as you relax more and more, you will drift down through Stage 2 and Stage 3 sleep. The lower your stage of sleep, the slower your brain waves will be. Then about 40 to 69 minutes after you lose consciousness you will have reached the deepest sleep of all. Your brain will show the large slow waves. This is Stage 4 sleep. The Father and His SonsA father had a family of sons who were perpetually quarreling among themselves. When he failed to heal their disputes, he determined to give them a practical illustration of disunion; and for this purpose he told them to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces- They tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it. He next opened the faggot, took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into his sons* hands, upon which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words:H My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks."Test 901-05 B B B B C 06-10 B B A C A11-15 C B C B B 16-20 B D A B C21-25 B C C D C 26-30 D D B B B。

I was working with whooping cranesand sand tail cranes. What does the professor say about the invention of the elevator?(A) It created design problems for architects.(B) It was needed for transporting construction materials.(C) It enabled architects to design taller office buildings.(D) It made skyscrapers more expensive to build.42. What will the professor probably discuss next?(A) Projected changes in the building code.(B) Design features of modern skyscrapers.(C) Strategies for reducing traffic congestion(拥挤).(D) Strategies for reducing traffic congestion.43 to 46 Talk in an introductory biology class.Good morning. Let me welcome all the new members of the ski patrol. My name is Brenda Peters and I've been a ski-patroller for nearly three years. After working in offices and restaurants I find this job very satisfying. After all, if you love the outdoors, it's a great job. You won't get rich butyou';; get in great shape and you will be able to help people everyday. And for me the best part of the job is giving ski lessons I've made a lot of friends that way. Of course your main responsibilities will involve ensuring the safety of everyone who skis here. All trails have to be checked daily to make sure they are groomed probably. You also will have to be watching out constantly for people who aren't skiing safely, or who may think they are better skiers than they really are. And to help those who are injured, you'll have to know basic first aid. Tomorrow you will begin training in a first aid system that skiers specifically to the outdoors. According to the speaker, what is one of the man responsibilities of ski patroller?(A) To predict weather patterns.(B) To maintain safe skiing conditions.(C) To help skiers to improve their physical.(D) To compete in ski competitions and races.47-50 A lecture given in a geology class. If you flew over certain parts of Nebraska and Texas by plane, you might notice some large areas appearing as bright green circles many hundreds of feet across.

Narrator: Listen to a conversation between a student and her professor. Pro: Before we get started, I...I just wanted to say I’m glad you chose food science for your major course of study. Stu: Yeah, it seems like a great industry to get involved with. I mean with a four-year degree in food science, I'll always be able to find a job. Pro: You're absolutely right. Before entering academia, I worked as a scientist for several food manufacturers and for the US Food and Drug Administration. I even worked on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska a couple of summers while I was an undergraduate. We’d bring in the day's catch to a floating processor boat where the fish got cleaned, packaged and frozen right at sea. Stu: That's amazing! As a matter of fact, I'm sort of interested in food packaging. Pro: Well, for that, you'll need a strong background in physics, math and chemistry. Stu: Those are my best subjects. For a long time, I was leaning towards getting my degree in engineering. Pro: Well, then you shouldn’t have a problem. Uh, and fortunately, at this university, the department of food science offers a program in food packaging. Elsewhere, you might have to hammer courses together on your own. Stu: I guess I luck out then. I am… so since my appointment today is to discuss my term paper topic, I wanted to ask, could I write about food packaging? I realize we're supposed to research foodborne bacteria, but food packaging must play a role in all of that, right? Pro: Absolutely! Maybe you should do some preliminary research on that. Stu: I have! That's the problem. I'm overwhelmed. Pro: Well, in your reading, did anything interest you in particular? I mean something you’d like to investigate. Stu: Well, I was surprised about the different types of packaging used for milk. You know, clear plastic bottles, opaque bottles, carton board containers.. Pro: True! In fact, the type of packaging has something to do with the way milk's treated against bacteria. Stu: Yeah, and I read a study that showed how light can give milk a funny flavor and decrease its nutritional value. And yet most milk bottles are clear. What's up about that? Pro: Well consumers like being able to visually examine the color of the milk. That might be one reason that opaque bottles haven't really caught on. But that study... I'm sure there is more studies on the subject. You shouldn't base your paper on only one study. Stu: Maybe I should write about those opaque plastic bottles. Find out if there is any scientific reasons they aren't used more widely? Maybe opaque bottles aren't as good at keeping bacteriafrom growing in milk after the bottle has been opened for something… but where to begin researching this? I don't have a... Pro: You know, there is a dairy not far from here in Chelsea. It was one of the first dairies to bottle milk in opaque plastic, but now they're using clear plastic again. And they're always very supportive of the university and our students, so if you wanted... Stu: Yeah, I like that idea. Question 1 of 5 Why does the woman go to see the professor? A. To get advice on the topic of a term paper.
Lecture 1
不过教授态度似乎是natural is more important。
Lecture 2

Lecture 3
Lecture 4
Amy
