I have been fortunate to have had numerous teachers and professorswho I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativity. I value many political leaders, who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their ability to change our futures. But of all the people I have known in my life, the person I admire most is my father. As the youngest girl in my family, I always considered myself to be “Daddy’s little girl”. While I grew up, it always made me sad to see so many of my friends and neighbors without a father or father-like figure around. This helped me appreciate how my father always takes an interest in his children’s lives. In every aspect of my life my father continuously pushes me to excel, so I could accomplish my work outstandingly among my people. Whenever I feel like giving up, or have a question or a concern, I know I can always call on him for advice. From him I have also learned that sometimes you have to put others’ needs ahead of your own, but you should make sure you are not taken advantage of by others. His strength seems to be unbreakable during hard times, and he is extremely determined to accomplish anything he sets his mind on, no matter how tiny it is. I highly respect him for how he stands up for what he believes in, and will never back down. I have always admired his open mind, compassion for people, and sense of understanding. He is a very reserved man, but to everybody’s surprise, he has a great sense of humor, and always knows how to put a smile on the faces of his wife, his children and his friends.Living in his affection and instruction, I am very proud of my father. Going on holiday not only makes you feel good while you're there --- you gain the health benefits for months, new research shows.Jetting off to exotic destinations such as the Maldives cuts your blood pressure, helps you sleep better and bounce back from stress, it found. The benefits last at least a fortnight longer than the vacation and can be felt for months in some cases where it is claimed. Experts say workers should always take their full holiday entitlement each year --- as many as one in three don’t --- to get the benefits. The study compared key health markers in holidaymakers visiting Thailand, Peru or the Maldives, with people who stayed at home and continued working. The average blood pressure of those on holiday dropped by six percent while the workers saw their blood pressure rise by two percent over the same period. The sleep quality of holidaymakers improved by 17 percent while that of the non-holidaymakers deteriorated by 14 percent. The study also found the ability of vacationers to recover from stress --- known as the stress-resilience test --- improved by 29 percent. There was a 71 percent fall in stress resilience scores among workers. Tests showed a fall in blood glucose levels, reducing the risk of diabetes, trimmer waistlines and enhanced mood and energy levels, with the effects sustained for at least two weeks after returning home. Organize a blank drive for your local homeless, and ask around for donations!Practice random acts of kindnessI'll never forget the time when I went to pay for my Dr. Pepper, but the server resisted, saying my bill was paid by an anonymous(匿名的) guest. It's this random act of kindness that restores my faith in humanity. Bless someone by paying for their drink at Starbucks, or praising them! If you live somewhere where it snows, shovel your neighbour's snow out of their driveway for them! Whether it is as simple as praise or as complex as paying the bill, you'll never know how far your impact will reach.Say thank-youJust a simple thank-you can make__somebody's__day,__especially if they feel like their work is never noticed. Cultivate(培养) a smile on their face by being sincere and grateful for all that they do.Use your talents to help the communityThe best way to show your appreciation for people is by using the talents and skills you have to bless others. For me, I love to coordinate(协调) events and write, and so my way of reaching out to the community is through writing articles and creating awareness about problems we face today. If you can bake, make some delicious cookies for people to enjoy! If you can knit, put your talents to use by making clothes for children in foster care. When I was 11, I threw a glance into Dad’s lunch box and made the unexpected discovery that my mother still showed her love towards my father. The evidence, a napkin resting on top of the sandwiches packed in wax paper, was certain “Love you!” she had written on the napkin. “ Meat loaf for supper!”Mom penned all kinds of messages to Dad on those paper napkins, and he saved a whole pile of them. What embarrassed me as a kid has become a precious memory of my parents. It also started m y own brand of lunch box notes. When my kids were young, I’d glue little dra wings on their lunches. Lots of sketches(素描) of our dog, Max, along with smiling flowers. When they were teenagers, I’d copy words of wisdom from great people, Einstein, for example, or Bruce Springsteen. Then, my kids grew up making their own handwritten notes. And my husband writes me love notes on recycled paper, because he’s all about being green.Friends who know about my lunch box notes eagerly share stories of their own family traditions. So many focus on food. Maura’s mom always drew hearts on the s hells of hard-boiled eggs. Melinda wrote messages on her kids’ bananas. We’re i nto the third generation of lunch box notes in our home. Whenever my 3-year-old grandson, Clayton, spends the night, he knows his lunch is going to have a napkin note from Grandma in the morning. One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, while the other led some sort of army across America.I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant.I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice:flip (掷) a coin.Heads—the commander, and tails—the peanut guy.Ah! Tails,my report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter,George Washington Carver.Weeks later, standing before this unfriendly mass,I was totally lost.Oh well,I lowered the paper and sat down at my desk, burning to find out what I had done wrong. As a classmate began his report,it all became clear,“My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American Revolution.”The whole world became quiet! How could I know that she meant that George Washington?Obviously,my grade was awful.Heartbroken but fearless,I decided to turn this around.I talked to Miss Lancelot, but she insisted: No re-dos; no new grade.I felt that the punishment was not justified, and I believed I deserved a second chance.Consequently,I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the school year.Ten months later, that chance unfolded as I found myself sitting in the headmaster’s office with my grandfather, now having an entirely differentconversation.I smiled and flashed back to the embarrassing moment at the beginning of the year as the headmaster informed me of my option to skip the sixth grade.Justice is sweet!1.What did the author’s classmates think about his report?()A.Controversial.B.Ridiculous.C.Boring.D.Puzzling.2.Why was the author confused about the task?( )A.He was unfamiliar with American history.B.He followed the advice and flipped a coin.C.He forgot his teacher’s instruction.D.He was new at the school.3.The underlined word “burning” in Para.3 probably means .A.annoyedB.ashamedC.readyD.eager4.In the end,the author turned things around .A.by redoing his taskB.through his own effortsC.with the help of his grandfatherD.under the guidance of his headmaster语篇解读:本文为记叙文,题材为人物故事类。

DWhen going through major life changes, like changing careers, I would change the people with whom I spent the most time. We’ve all gone through periods when the people in our lives have changed—graduation, moving to a new city, getting a new job, joining a new club, etc. I don’t think I need to convince you just how much influence other people can have over your identity. If you’ve ever experienced a major switch in your people environment, then you know that you change as well. Most people don’t make these choices consciously (意识到地) though. You might consciously decide to spend more time with a certain friend, or you may ask someone out on a date to begin a new relationship. But few people choose their existing friendships deliberately. There’s no“getting rid of people”. People are always dropping into and out of each other’s lives. Associations grow into friendships, and friendships fade into associations. You don’t get rid of anyone. The truth is that in order to make room for new people and new experiences, you may need to loosen up some of your existing connections. What about loyalty (忠诚)? Shouldn’t you always be loyal to your friends? Once you have a close friend, even if their influence on you is slightly harmful, shouldn’t you stick by them?Loyalty to a friend sometimes means having to let go. It means being loyal to their highest and best self as well. If someone is destroying his health by smoking, for example, you aren’t showing loyalty by smoking right along with him. True loyalty sometimes requires that you break damaging connections, get yourself back on solid ground, and then decide what you can really do to help your friend. It can take a lot of courage to tell someone, “I’m sorry, but I can’t have you in my life anymore.” But even though this might seem like a sel fish act at times, it’s often the best thing for the other person too. If a relationship is holding you back in some way, understand that it’s also hurting the other person. For example, if you work for a violent boss, your acceptance of that situation is considered to be silent approval, encouraging your boss to continue to behave violently.1、When experiencing major life changes, people may _______.A. join a new social communityB. influence their friends aroundC. choose their friendships purposelyD. have their people environment changed2、. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean?A. Everyone has at least one friend.B. It is unnecessary to make new friends.C. Friendship still exists though there’s less connection.D. You ought to treat your old and new friends equally.3. What is the author’s opinion on the loyalty to friends?A. Never betray your close friends whatever happens.B. Correct their mistakes while you guard their goodness.C. Stick by your friends even though they do harm to you.D. Break up with your friends immediately if they smoke.4. How should we behave when employed by a violent boss?A. We should accept what we are told to do.B. We should stay silent and be in favor of it.C. We should bravely disobey him if he is wrong.D. We should give our boss courage to continue.参考答案1—4、DCBC【2014模拟】阅读理解。

A.The Lawyer and His WifeB.The Lawyer's TrickC.A Good Doctor and a Poor LawyeD.A Serious Illness【2014综合测试】DThe recent publication of autobiographies by two of Britain’s great scientists, biologist Richard Dawkins and physicist Stephen Hawking, is a wonderful opportunity to compare and contrast these two remarkable men. Surprisingly, they have rather more in common than we think. Most striking is the similarity in their backgrounds. They were born in the early 1940s to middle class families---not wealthy but comfortably off, with a strong commitment to academic excellence and public service. Both families were keen to send their boys to Oxford University---and both succeeded, Dawkins studying zoology and Hawking physics.Neither author has a very positive view of his early university life. Hawking describes the attitude at Oxford in the 1950s and 1960s as very anti-work, “You were supposed to either be brilliant without effort or fail. Hard work was looked down upon by students and we all pretended that nothing was worth making an effort for.” He estimates that he studied for no more than an hour a day as an undergraduate student (本科生).Undergraduate life was somewhat more rewarding for Dawkins. Like Hawking, he wasn’t particularly hard-working and never attended his lectures. But he found Oxford’s system of weekly essay-based lessons with an academic tutor useful, “It was really only the tutorial system that educated me.”For both men, scientific life really got going as postgraduates after 1962. Dawkins, who remained at Oxford, describes brilliantly the academic competition among the postgraduate students, which he believed helped push him to develop the ideas that formed the basis of his most famous book, The Selfish Gene. This volume transformed scientific thinking about Darwinism evolution.Hawking, on the other hand, moved to Cambridge University after graduation, where his research into the universe would eventually make him the most famous physicists since Albert Einstein. He writes movingly about the disease which progressively crippled his entire body, leaving him unable to move and only able to communicate using a computercontrolled by his eyes. Although communication is slow---he can write only 3 words a minute using the machine---his illness has not affected his mind or his research on space-time and origins of the universe. Each book is recommended individually as a personal introduction to an important scientific thinker. The one who succeeds will prove himself the stronger.” The North began first. He blew a gale, tore up trees, and raised clouds of dust. But the traveler only wrapped his clock more closely about him, and kept on his way. Then the Sun began to shine. He drove away the clouds and warmed the air. Some people think that as more and more people have televisions in their homes, fewer and fewer people will buy books and newspapers. Why read an article in the newspaper, when the TV news can bring you the information in a few minutes and with pictures? Why read the life story of a famous man, when a short television program can tell you all that you want to know?Television has not killed reading, however. Today, newspapers sell in very large numbers. And books of every kind are sold more than ever before. Books are still a cheap way to get information and enjoyment.Although some books with hard covers are expensive, many books are printed today as paperbacks(平装本),which are quite cheap. A paperback collection of short stories, for example,is always cheaper than an evening at the cinema or the theater, and you can keep a book for ever and read it many times.Books are a wonderful provider of knowledge and pleasure and some types of books should be in every home.Every home should have a good dictionary.A good encyclopedia(百科全书),though expensive,is useful, too, because you can find information on any subject.Besides, you can have such books as history books, science textbooks, cookbooks, and collections of stories and poems. Then from time to time you can take a book of poems off your shelves and read the thoughts and feelings of your favorite poets.1. It can be inferred from the passage that___.A.TV programs are a chief provider of knowledgeB.cinemas are the best choice in getting informationC.reading is a cheap way of learning and having fun D.newspapers are an expensive way to enjoy oneself2.What does the sentence“Television has not killed reading, however.”underlinedin the second paragraph suggest?A.People only need reading, though. B.Reading is still necessary today.C.Reading is more fun than television. D.Watching television doesn’t help reading.3.Which of the following is mainly discussed in the last paragraph? D.Collections of stories and poems.4.What can we learn from the passage?A.Fewer and fewer people will buy books.B.A good dictionary should be kept in every home.C.Books with hard covers sell better than paperbacks.D.More people like TV programs about famous men.【参考答案】1—4、.C B A B2016高考英语阅读理解--健康保健类Roughly half of college students will have some degree of depression at some point during their time in school. Even more startling, 6.2 percent of college students surveyed in 2012 considered suicide and 1.3 percent attempted it, according to an American College Health Association study released this spring. If you’re feeling depressed on campus, you may find the following tips helpful.Exercise: Physical activity releases endorphins – chemicals that produce an overall positive feeling within the body, which fight depression naturally. Mental health experts claim that exercise is a solution to those feeling mild or moderate depression. However, for those severely depressed, simply doing sports is not enough.Use school counseling services: Campuses don’t employ mental health experts simply to throw thousands of dollars down the drain. Their job is to help students, so experts recommend you use them. Most students, however, are hesitant to take a trip to their college’s counseling center, fearing being laughed at by peers. As a result, some schools like Texas Christian University, are testing students for mental health problems when they get sick and visit the campus health clinic. Take advantage of technology: Staying in touch with family members and friends from childhood and high school has become easier than ever with the coming of Facebook and video chat services like Skype. While mental health ex perts insist that it’s important to make friends in your new environment and be involved in the college community, it’s also significant to keep in touch with the people you knew before college. Go to sleep: Following a fairly regular sleep pattern can defend you against depression. In college, many students’ sleep patterns are irregular thanks to late-night studying and partying, which is harmful to their mental health. Research strongly suggests that sleep is the key to learning and memory formation.【小题1】According to the passage, physical activity __________ .A.is regarded as the best way to fight depressionB.contributes to the release of endorphinsC.can’t help the seriously depressed studentsD.improve people’s ability to learn and memorize【小题2】It can be inferred from the 3rd paragraph that __________ .A.employing mental health experts on campus is a waste of money B.students with mental health problems can’t get on well with others C.going to college’s counseling center for help requires a lot of courageD.sick students in Texas Christian University must take psychological tests【小题3】Taking advantage of technology is encouraged because it ____ A.enables students to get involved in college lifeB.helps students stay in contact with othersC.offers students a way to make new friendsD.provides a way to avoid getting bored【小题4】which of the following can NOT help one reduce depression?A.Taking exercise regularly every weekB.Chatting with old friends with SkypeC.Turning to mental health experts for adviceD.Holding parties deep into the night to relax【2014综合测试】CNo one knows why people dream, but some dreams might be connected to the mental processes that help us learn. In a recent study, scientists found a connection between nap-time (午睡时间) dreams and better memory in people who were learning a new skill. So perhaps one way to learn something new is to practice, practise, practise---and then sleep on it.“I was surprise d by this finding,” Robert Stickgold, a Harvard University scientist who led the study. In the study, 100 college students each spent an hour on a computer, trying to get through a virtual maze (虚拟迷宫). The maze was difficult, and the study participants had to start in a different place each time they tried---making it even more difficult. Then, for the first 90 minutes of a five-hour break, half of the participants were required to stay awake while half were told to sleep. Participants who stayed awake were asked to describe their thoughts. Participants who slept were asked to describe any dream they had. Stickgold and his colleagues wanted to know about NREM, or non-REM sleep. REM stands for “rapid eye movement”, which is what happens during REM sleep. This period of sleep often brings strange dreams to a sleeper, although dreams can happen in both kinds of sleep. Stickgold wanted to know what people were dreaming about when their eyes weren’t moving, during NREM sleep. Other studies have found a connection between NREM bring activity and learning ability.Four of the 50 people who slept said their dreams were about the maze. Later, when these four people tried the computer maze again, they were able to complete it faster.Stickgold believes the dream itself doesn;t help a person learn---it’s the other way around. He suspects that such dreams are caused by the brain processes associated with learning. All the maze-dreamers had done the task poorly the first time, which makes Stickgold wonder if the NREM dreams show up when a person findsa new task particularly difficult. People who had other dreams, or people didn't sleep, didn't show the same improvement.36. In the first stage of the study, the participants were asked toA. design a maze on computerB. find their way out of a mazeC. decide where to begin a mazeD. remember a location in a maze37. What happened to the participants during the break?A. Half of them were woken up when they started to dream.B. Half of them were asked to dram about the maze.C. All of them were asked to describe their thoughts.D. Half of them were asked to sleep for 90 minutes.38. What can we learn from the passage?A. Everyone will dream about a new skill after learning it.B. Stickgold was the first to study dreams and learning.C. During NREM sleep, people usually don’t dream.D. Unusual dreams often occur during REM sleep.39. In the first stage of the study, the participants were asked toA. design a maze on computerB. find their way out of a mazeC. decide where to begin a mazeD. remember a location in a maze 40. Which of the following statement best summarizes the study’s conclusion?A. Dreams have a role in learning.B. Dreams have no basis in reality.C. Dreams are important for health.D. Dreams are the best way to study.【参考答案】36-40 BDDAA【2014综合测试】DThe recent publication of autobiographies by two of Britain’s great scientists, biologist Richard Dawkins and physicist Stephen Hawking, is a wonderful opportunity to compare and contrast these two remarkable men. Hawking describes the attitude at Oxford in the 1950s and 1960s as very anti-work, “You were s upposed to either be brilliant without effort or fail. Hard work was looked down upon by students and we all pretendedthat nothing was worth making an effort for.” He estimates that he studied for no more than an hour a day as an undergraduate student (本科生).Undergraduate life was somewhat more rewarding for Dawkins. He writes movingly about the disease which progressively crippled his entire body, leaving him unable to move and only able to communicate using a computer controlled by his eyes. Although communication is slow---he can write only 3 words a minute using the machine---his illness has not affected his mind or his research on space-time and origins of the universe. Each book is recommended individually as a personal introduction to animportant scientific thinker. Read together, they provide a superbbackground to the academic and social climate of postwar Britishresearch.41. Which of the following describes a similarity in Hawking’s andDawkins’ backgrounds?A. Similarly, exposure to just 10 minutes of normal bathroom lighting is enough to free the sleep hormone melatonin, which regulates people's natural wake-sleep cycle and makes them sleepy at nightfall.Ten years ago,a team of British and American researchers detected a photo-pigment(光敏色素) in the human eye that signals to the body whether it is day or night, summer or winter. The photo-pigment is especially sensitive to blue light."The blue light more or less tells the body,'It's daytime,be awake,'" Kunz says.Monitors have a mostly cold white light content and scientists suspect the photo-pigment may react similarly to it.So the longer people look into the bright light, the more awake they become - and then sleep poorly.A lot of people have difficulty "switching off" in the evening.About half of the women in Germany and a quarter of the men sleep poorly. Environmental factors are only one of the possible causes.Job stress as well as personal and health concerns are also the main reasons for their sleep problems. In addition, electronic objects' standby lights and indicator lamps can be annoying in the dark and affect sleep."Sound scientific evidence is still lacking on this matter," Kunz notes.According to Kunz, those who cannot go without their computer in the evening should turn down the blue content if possible and lower thebrightness somewhat."But nobody does that because, after all,you want to concentrate while working at the computer and the light helps the brain."【小题1】The passage is mainly about ____________.A.natural wake-up cyclesB.the effect of light on sleepC.personal and health concernsD.functions of computer monitors【小题2】The underlined word “which” in Paragraph 2 refers to_____.A.normal bathroom lightingB.10-minute exposure to lightingC.the release process of a chemicalD.a chemical affecting one’s sleep cycle【小题3】We can learn from the passage that ______.A.the blue light has a calming effect.B.the photo-pigment tells people day or nightC.women in Germany use computers more often than menD.it has been proved that standby lights affect people’s sleep。

George Gershwin, born in 1898,was one of America's greatest composers. He published his first song when he was eighteen years old.During the next twenty years he wrote more than five hundred songs. Many of Gershwin's songs were first written for musical plays performed in theatres in New York City. These plays were a popular form of entertainment in the 1920s and 1930s.Many of his songs have remained popular as ever.Over the years they have been sung and played in every possible way—from jazz to country. In the 1920s there was a debate in the United States about jazz music.Could jazz, some people asked,be considered serious music? In 1924 jazz musician and orchestra leader Paul Whiteman decided to organize a special concert to show that jazz was serious music.Gershwin agreed to compose something for the concert before he realized he had just a few weeks to do it.And in that short time,he composed a piece for piano and orchestra which he called Rhapsody in Blue.Gershwin himself played the piano at the concert. The audience were thrilled when they heard his music. It made him worldfamous and showed that jazz music could be both serious and popular. In 1928,Gershwin went to Paris. He applied to study composition (作曲)with the wellknown musician Nadia Boulanger, but she rejected him.She was afraid that classical study would ruin his jazzinfluenced style. While there,Gershwin wrote An American in Paris. When it was first performed, critics (评论家)were divided over the music. Some called it happy and full of life,to others it was stilly and boring. But it quickly became popular in Europe and the United States. It still remains one of his most famous works.George Gershwin died in 1937,just days after doctors learned he had brain cancer. He was only thirtynine years old.Newspapers all over the world reported his death on their front pages.People mourned the loss of the man and all the music he might have still written.【语篇解读】本文讲述了George Gershwin 一位伟大的音乐家的一生,对音乐界及世界的影响。

It also started my own brand of lunch box notes. Maura’s mom always drew hearts on the shells of hard-boiled eggs. Melinda wrote messages on her kids’ bananas. We’re i nto the third generation of lunch box notes in our home. Whenever my 3-year-old grandson, Clayton, spends the night, he knows his lunch is going to have a napkin note from Grandma in the morning. Last week, I drew a picture of me, waving widely and shouting his name. He took one look at it and screamed, “ Where’s Grandpa?” I added a man in a clean shirt. “ You forgot his tie,”he said. I quickly drew a line of stripes(条纹) down the front of the shirt. Clayton smiled. “Grandpa,” he whispered, running his fingers across the napkin. “It’s you!”1. One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, while the other led some sort of army across America.I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant.I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice:flip (掷) a coin.Heads—the commander, and tails—the peanut guy.Ah! There’s an energy crisis in America, and it has nothing to do with fossil fuels. Millions of us get up each morning already weary over the day holds. “I just can’t get started.” People say. But it’s not physical energy that most of us lack. Sure, we could all use extra sleep and a better diet. But in truth, people are healthier today than at any time in history. I can almost guarantee that if you long for more energy, the problem is not with your body. What you’re seeking is not physical energy. It’s emotional energy. Yet, sad to say life sometimes seems designed to exhaust our supply. We work too hard. We have family obligations (义务). We encounter (遭遇) emergencies and personal crises. No wonder so many of us suffer from emotional fatigue (疲劳), a kind of utter exhaustion of the spirit. And yet we all know people who are filled with joy, despite the unpleasant circumstances of their lives. Even as a child I observed people who were poor or disabled or ill, but who nevertheless faced life with optimism and vigor (活力). Consider Laura Hillenbrand, who despite an extremely weak body wrote the best-seller Seabiscuit. Hillenbrand barely had enough physical energy to drag herself out of bed to write. But she was fueled by having a story she wanted to share. It was emotional energy that helped her succeed. Unlike physical energy, which is finite (有限的) and diminishes (减少) with age, emotional energy is unlimited and has nothing to do with genes or upbringing. So how do you get it? You can’t simply tell yourself to be positive. You must take action. Here are six practical strategies that work.1. Do something new.Very little that’s new occurs in our lives. The impact of this sameness on our emotional energy is gradual, but huge: It’s like a tire(轮胎) with a slow leak(漏). You don’t notice it at first, but eventually you’ll get a flat. It’s up to you to plug the leak—even though there are always a dozen reasons to stay stuck in your dull routines of life. That’s where Maura, 36, a w aitress, found herself a year ago. Fortunately, Maura had a lifeline—a group of women friends who meet regularly to discuss their lives. Their lively discussions spurred Maura to make small but nevertheless life altering changes. She joined a gym in the next town. She changed her look with ashort haircut and new black T-shirts. Eventually, Maura gathered the courage to quit her job and start her own business. Here’s a challenge: If it’s something you wouldn’t ordinarily do, do it. Trya dish you’ve never eaten. Listen to music you’d ordinarily tune out. You’ll discover these small things add to your emotional energy. 2. Reclaim life’s meaning. So many of my patients tell me that their lives used to have meaning, but that somewhere along the line things went stale (厌倦的). The first step in solving this meaning shortage is to figure out what you really care about, and then do something about it. A case in point is Ivy, 57, a pioneer in investment banking. “I mistakenly believed that all the money I made woul d mean something.” she says. “But I feel lost, like a 22-year-old wondering what to do with her life.” Ivy’s solution? She started a program that shows Wall Streeters how to donate time and money to poor children. In the process, Ivy filled her life with meaning.3. Put yourself in the fun zone. Most of us grown-ups are seriously fun-deprived(缺乏的). High-energy people have the same day-to-day work as the rest of us, but they manage to find something enjoyable in every situation. A real estate broker I know keeps herself amused on the job by mentally redecorating the houses she shows to clients(客户). “I love imagining what even the most run-down house could look like with a little tender loving care,” she says. “It’s a challenge—and the least desirable properties are usually the most fun.” We all define fun differently, of course, but I can guarantee this: If you put just a bit of it into your day, you energy will increase quickly4. Bid farewell (告别)to guilt and regret.Everyone’s past is filled with regrets t hat still cause pain. But from an emotional energy point of view, they are dead weights that keep us from moving forward. While they can’t merely be willed away, I do recommend you remind yourself that whatever happened in the past, nothing can change that. Holding on to the memory only allows the damage to continue into the present.5. Make up your mind]Say you’ve been thinking about cutting your hair short. Will it look stylish—or too extreme? You endlessly think it over. Having the decision hanging over your head is a huge energy drain. Every time you can’t decide, you burden yourself with alternatives. Quit thinking that you have to make the right decision; instead, make a choice and don’t look back.6. Give to get.Emotional energy has a kind of magical quality: the more you give, the more you get back. This is the difference between emotional and physical energy with the latter. You have to get it to be able to give it. With the former, however, you get it by giving it. Start by asking everyone you mee t, “How are you?” as if you really want to know, and then listen to the reply. Be the one who hears. Most of us also need to smile more often. If you don’t smile at the person you love first thing in the morning, you’re sucking energy out of your relations hip. Finally, help another person—and make the help real, concrete. Give a massage tosomeone you love, or cook her dinner, then, expand the circle to work. Try asking yourself what you’d do if your goal were to be helpful rather than efficient. After all, if it’s true that what goes around comes around, why not make sure that what’s circulating around you is the good stuff?1. We played all our fresh string into the boys’ kites and they went up higher and higher. We could hardly distinguish the orange-colored spots of the kites. Now and then we slowly pulled one kite back, watching it dancing up and down in the wind, and finally bringing it down to earth, just for the joy of sending it up again.Even our fathers dropped their tools and joined us.Our mothers took their turn, laughing like schoolgirls. I think we were all beside ourselves.Parents forgot their duty and theirdignity;children forgot their everyday fights and little jealousies.“Perhaps it’s like this in the kingdom of heaven,”I thought confusedly. It was growing dark before we all walked sleepily back to the houses.I suppose we had some sort of supper.I suppose there must have been a surface tidying-up,for the house on Sunday looked clean and orderly enough. The strange thing was,we didn’t mention that day afterward.I felt a little embarrassed.Surely none of the others had been as excited as I.I locked the memory up in that deepest part of me where we keep “the things that cannot be and yet they are.”The years went on,then one day I was hurrying about my kitchen in a city apartment, trying to get some work out of the way while my three-year-old insistently cried her desire to “go park, see duck.”“I can’t go!”I said.“I have this and this to do,and when I’m through I’ll be too tired to walk that far.”My mother, who was visiting us,looked up from the peas she was shelling.“It’s a wonderful day,”she offered,“really warm, yet there’s a fine breeze.Do you remember that day we flew kites?”I stopped in my dash between stove and sink. The locked door flew open and with it a rush of memories.“Come on,”I told my little girl.“You’re right,it’s too good a day to miss.”Another decade passed. We were in the aftermath(余波) of a great war.All evening we had been asking our returned soldier, the youngest Patrick Boy,about his experiences as a prisoner of war.He had talked freely, but now for a long time he had been silent. What was he thinking of —what dark and horrible things?“Say!”A smile slipped out from his lips.“Do you remember —no,of course you wouldn’t.It probably didn’t make the impression on you as it did on me.”I hardly dared speak.“Remember what?”“I used to think of that day a lot in POW camp(战俘营),when things w eren’t too good.Do you remember the day we flew the kites?”1.Mrs. Patrick was laughing guiltily because she thought .A.she was too old to fly kitesB.her husband would make fun of herC.she should have been doing her housework thenD.her girls weren’t supposed to play the boys’ game2.By “we were all beside ourselves”,the writer means that they all .A.felt confusedB.went wild with joyC.looked onD.forgot their fights3.What did the writer think after the kite-flying?( )A.The boys must have had more fun than the girls.B.They should have finished their work before playing.C.Her parents should spend more time with them.D.All the others must have forgotten that day.4.Why did the writer finally agree to take her little girl for an outing?( )A.She suddenly remembered her duty as a mother.B.She was reminded of the day they flew kites.C.She had finished her work in the kitchen.D.She thought it was a great day to play outside.5.The youngest Patrick Boy is mentioned to show that .A.the writer was not alone in treasuring her fond memoriesB.his experience in POW camp threw a shadow over his lifeC.childhood friendship means so much to the writerD.people like him really changed a lot after the war语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。
